Jo and Quin are a couple. (“a couple” = the two of them together, in a relationship)
Jo is going to the club with a date. (“a date” = the man she is going with, hopefully Quin)
(Remember, “date” also means something like “December 6th”, for example.)


The movie is a couple hours long. (“a couple” = approximately two, but could be 1.5 or 3 hours)
