第二百十二話「喜んでいいんだ」
　さて、帰還報告だ。
 　エリスも出産間近でナイーブになっているかもしれない。
 　彼女もわりと、精神的に落ち込んだりする時もあるからね。

 　ザノバには、一旦俺の家に寄ってもらう事にした。
 　ジュリを引き渡さなきゃいけない。
 　しばらくウチに置いといてもいいが、ジュリもザノバと一緒にいた方が嬉しかろう。

Chapter 212: [It is Okay to Rejoice]

Eris also might have been naive concerning childbirth.

 　何はともあれ、ザノバがこれからも俺の傍にいてくれる。
 　これは喜ばしい事だ。
 　魔導鎧の研究も進むし、人形の販売だって諦めずに済むだろう。

 　ザノバは住む家や何やらを失ったが、
 　なんだったら俺が金を貸してやってもいい。
 　金銭の貸し借りはトラブルの元だが、ザノバならくれてやっても惜しくはない。

By the way, Ginger has been busy trying to find Zanoba a place to sleep.

 　家の敷地内に入った瞬間、風切音がした。
 　何の音かはすぐにわかった。
 　なにせ、何千何万と聞いた音だからな。
 　これは、素振りの音だ。
 　ノルンが家に帰ってきているのだろうか。

 　と、音の方を見た時、俺は目を疑った。

 　一人の女が、その昔作った素振り用の石剣を振っていた。
 　その女の髪の毛は、原色のペンキをぶちまけたかのように、真っ赤だった。
 　すげー重い石剣を、片手で、軽々と。
 　身重な女が。
 　エリスが。

 「あら、ルーデウス。おかえりなさい。遅かったわね」
 「ちょちょちょちょぉ！　エリス！　なにやってんの！」

No, anyway, that's a pretty good sound for Norn.

 　エリスのお腹がスマートだ。
 　ほっそりしてる。
 　俺のベイビーちゃんはどこにいったの？

 「もちろん私よ！」

 　エリスが。
 　子供を。
 　産んだ。

 「…………」

I was hit hard when I moved to grab her butt.
I look up at her from the ground.

 　宿で、多分、その日、ロキシーと……

 　いや、それはいい。
 　つまり、あれか。

 「出産……間に合わなかった……？」
 「そうね、もうちょっと早く帰ってくればよかったのに、残念だったわね！」

 　戸惑っていると、エリスが眉を潜めた。
 　嬉しくないわけがない。

Eris said that with a smirk.

 　そんな状況で、いきなり嬉しい報告をつきつけられて、俺だけ喜んでいいのだろうか。

 「マスター！」

 　迷っていると、玄関が開いた。
 　オレンジ色の髪をした小さな人影が玄関から飛び出てくる。
 　その人影は、まっすぐに俺の背後。
 　ザノバの元へと走っていった。
 　そのまま飛びつこうとして、つまづき、ザノバの太もものあたりに抱きつく形となった。

"Uuh, I'm happy, but also, it's a complicated feeling..."

"Ah!  That's right, naturally it's a boy!  He's named Arus, after the great hero of humanity."

But, I wonder if it is okay to be happy.
I failed Orsted's job.
Zanoba's brother Pax died.
There is some hope remaining, but I still failed.

While I was lost in thought, the front entrance swung open.
A small orange haired figure came flying out of the front door.
That person ran straight past me to the shadowy figure at my rear.
She ran right for Zanoba.
While trying to leap towards Zanoba, she stumbled, and it became a scene where she was embracing his thighs.

 「おお、ジュリ！　我が弟子よ、帰ってきたぞ！」

 　ザノバは、そんなジュリの両脇に手をいれ、自分の目の高さまで持ち上げた。
 　ジュリは目からボロボロと涙を流しながら、ザノバの袖をギュっと握った。

 「ジュリは、ジュリはマスターのお帰りをお待ちしておりました！」
 「うむ」

 　感動の再会だ。
 　うちの家族がイジメてたんじゃないかってぐらい、感動の再会だ。
 　次の瞬間、ジュリは爆弾発言とも言える言葉を口にした。

 「ジュリは！　マスターの事をお慕いしております！」
 「おお、そうであったか。それは気づかずに――」
 「もう、もう、置いていかないでください！　死ぬ時は御側にいさせてください！」

"Ah, Julie, my disciple!  I am back!"

Zanoba picked Julie up with both hand, and lifted her up so their eyes met.
Julie, tears pouring from her eyes, squeezed Zanoba's sleeve.

"Julie has been looking forward to your return Master!"

"Yes."

It's a deeply moving reunion.
She seems to have not been bullied by my family, it's obvious from such a moving scene.
A moment later, Julie said something jaw dropping.

"Julie, about master, adores him!"

"Ah, so that was the case.  I hadn't noticed..."

"Again, please don't leave me again.  Please let me be by your side when you die!"

 　悲痛とも言える叫び。
 　この事件の裏側で、ジュリがどれだけザノバを心配していたのか、よくわかる叫び。
 　ザノバはあっけに取られた顔をしていたが、
 　やがて柔らかく微笑んだ。

 「……うむ、安心せよ。これからはずっと一緒にいられよう」
 「ますたぁぁぁあああん」

 　ジュリが泣き出すと、ザノバは彼女の顔をそっと自分の肩口あたりに押し付けた。
 　ザノバも、心なしか嬉しそうだ。

 　そっか。
 　確かにパックスは死んでしまったし、仕事も失敗した。ヒトガミに負けた。
 　でも、生きて帰ってきた。
 　俺もザノバもロキシーもジンジャーも。
 　誰一人欠ける事はなかった。

She began to cry out her grief.

 　唐突に湧き上がってきた感情には逆らわなかった。
 　エリスを抱き締め、キスした。

 　エリスは驚きつつも、応じてくれた。
 　抱きしめ返され、キスし返された。
 　背中を撫でて尻を揉むと、肩の辺りを固定されて、より深くキスされた。
 　手を前に回して胸を揉むと、ぶん殴られて地面とキスさせられた。

 「やり過ぎよ！」
 「ごめん！」
 「わっ！」

"Eris!"

 　俺は即座に立ち上がり、エリスをお姫様抱っこした。
 　こうしちゃいられない。
 　早く子供の顔を見に行かなくちゃ。

 「で、どこ、男の子、どこ？」
 「家の中よ！」

 　エリスは珍しく逆らわず、俺の首に手を回してきた。
 　そして、家の方を指さす。

 「ふむ……師匠！」
 「なんだ、ザノバ！」
 「今日のところはこれにて！　また後日！　ロキシー殿にも礼を！」
 「ああ！」

I immediately got up and put Eris in a princess carry.

 　一人の赤ん坊を抱いて。

 「みてみて、ノルン姉、笑った、いま笑った！」
 「アイシャ、アイシャ、私にも抱かせて」
 「そっとだよ、そっと。首のところを」
 「もう、わかってるって、ルーシーもララも抱いた事あるんだから……あ、この子おっぱい触ってくる、おなか空いたのかな？」
 「どうかなー、お兄ちゃんの子供だからねー」
 「赤ちゃんがそんな事するわけないでしょ！」

With that exchange, Zanoba left.

 　エリスを床におろした所で、妹たちも俺に気づいた。
 　二人は俺を見上げ、笑顔を向けてきた。

 「おかえりお兄ちゃん」

 　笑っていた。
 　妹は二人とも笑っていた。
 　それを見て、俺はふと、パックスの顔が思い浮かんだ。
 　自嘲げな、諦めきった笑みを思い出した。

Two 14 year old girls, holding my son; the youthful energy is overflowing."
My sisters, and my son.

After I put Eris back down on the floor, the sisters notice me.
They look up at me, two people with smiling faces.

Both of my sisters are here laughing.

 　俺は、ノルンから赤ん坊を受け取った。
 　これがアルス。
 　髪は赤い。目つきもエリスとそっくりだ。
 　実感がわかない。
 　生まれた瞬間を見ていないからだろうか。
 　不安な気持ちが鎌首をもたげた。

 　赤ん坊は俺を見て、短い手を伸ばして、俺の胸の辺りを触った。
 　ペタペタと触った。まるで柔らかいものでも触るかのように。
 　でも、俺の胸は固い。

"I heard from Roxy-ane that it was a bad time."

"Now see here, Norn-ane"

 　アイシャとノルンが心配そうに見てくる。
 　俺の子供を、二人は「可愛い」といって抱いていた。
 　笑いながら抱いていた。
 　愛してくれていた。
 　きっと二人は、俺の事も、家族として愛してくれてる。

"Aaya~!  Agyia~!"

He begins to cry immediately.

 　もしかしてザノバは。
 　パックスとこういう関係になりたかったのだろうか。

 　気づいた瞬間、涙が出てきた。

Thinking about Pax.

Zanoba has no children, but Zanoba did have siblings.

They never received love.

 　俺は幼児のように首を振り、赤子を抱えたまま、アイシャとノルンの間に座った。
 　しばらく、俺は子供と二人で泣いた。

 　なんで、俺は、最後までパックスを認めてやれなかったんだろうか。
 　もっと早い段階で、ザノバがパックスに抱いていた気持ちに気づいてやれなかったのだろうか。
 　俺なら、パックスの気持ちには気づけたはずなのに……。

"Hold on a minute!  Are you crying!?"

"Yeah, I was just moved to tears."

"It can't be helped, I have an idea.  You should stop crying if I strongly embrace you..."

"Stop that..."

My baby's head bobbled around, I took him and sat down between Norn and Aisha.
For a while I was crying between those two with my child.

Until that moment, why didn't I have any recognition for Pax?
I wonder why I didn't realize the feelings Zanoba had for Pax at an earlier stage?
If it's me, I should have been able to understand Pax's feelings.

 　泣き声を聞いて、二階から足音が聞こえた。
 　ややあってシルフィとルーシー、それにララを抱いたロキシーがリビングに現れた。
 　台所の方にいたのか、リーリャとゼニスも。

 　シルフィは、きっと何があったのかを、ロキシーに聞いていたのだろう。
 　泣きじゃくる俺を見て、彼女は何も言わず頭を撫でてくれた。
 　ルーシーもそれを真似して、俺の膝の上に登って、撫でてくれた。

 「もう、ルーデウスは泣き虫ね……」

 　最後に、エリスが頭を撫でてくれた。
 　皆優しい。

 「アイシャ……ノルン……」

 　泣きながら、二人の妹に声を掛けた。

Hearing my cries, footsteps sounded from upstairs.
Lucy and Sylphy appeared in the living room, and then after a brief moment, Roxy, holding Lara, followed them down.
Then from the kitchen, Zenith and Lilia came.

Sylphy should have heard from Roxy what had happened.

 「俺は、どんな時でも、味方だから……困ったら、遠慮なく、頼ってくれ……頼りないと思うかもしれないけど、絶対、出来る限り、力になるから……」

 　二人は顔を見合わせていた。
 　むしろ今、お前が泣き止まなくて困ってるって顔だ。
 　いかんな。
 　これじゃいざって時に頼ってもらえないかもしれない。

 「うん、わかった」
 「はい、わかりました」

 　でも、二人は頷いてくれた。
 　よかった。
 　うちは大丈夫そうだ。

 「ぐすっ」

"I'll help you anytime you need... If you are in trouble, don't hesitate to rely on me...  You might think I'm unreliable, but no matter what, I'll do everything in my power..."

Those two looked at one another.
Rather then helping them, maybe my crying face is troubling them instead.
I don't know.
Maybe they won't be able to rely on me in an emergency.

But, those two nodded.

 　鼻をすすりながら、ロキシーとララを見る。

 　ララは彼女の腕の中で、いつも通りのふてぶてしい顔をしている。
 　確かに、今回、俺の命に危険は無かった。
 　でも、ロキシーがいなければ、俺は危なかった。
 　どれだけ決意を固めても、俺は弱い。
 　彼女が傍にいてくれなければ、途中で折れていたかもしれない。
 　やはり、ロキシーは頼りになるのだ。
 　そして、そのロキシーを連れて行かせてくれたのは、ララだ。
 　ロキシーと、ララ。
 　今回、二人には感謝してもしきれない。

 「ロキシー……お疲れ様でした」

 　悪夢のような出来事だった。

 　だが、それも終わり。
 　明日からは、また別の出来事が待っているだろう。

 　ヒトガミの事、オルステッドの事。
 　二人の戦いと、自分の今までの事。
 　ララが救世主かもしれない事や、なぜ自分がオルステッドに協力するのかといった事、その詳細。
 　全てを話した上で、協力を要請した。
 　いざという時は、俺の、そしてオルステッドの力になってほしい、と。

 　未来の俺は、どうあがいても最後の一つが手に入らないと気づいて絶望した。
 　恐らく、この最後の一つというのが、ラプラスが持っている秘宝なのだろう。
 　殺さなければならない、というオルステッドの言葉を考えるに、
 　五龍将の命と引き換えに手に入れるものだと推測できる。

 　ペルギウスとも仲が悪いわけじゃ、ないしな……。

 　が、これは失敗。
 　ラプラスは俺たちの預かり知らぬ所で復活し、人族に対して戦争をふっかける。
 　この戦争をくぐり抜けながらラプラスを殺害し、秘宝を手に入れるのは、
 　オルステッドといえども、骨が折れるようだ。
 　それこそ、その後のヒトガミとの戦いに支障が出るほどに。

 　ゆえに、今回のループは失敗だ。
 　と、オルステッドは言った。
 　だが、彼から諦念のようなものは感じられなかった。
 　ガックリきている感じは伝わってきたが、諦めている感じは無い。

Anyway.
In order to get the five treasures, the resurrection of Laplace is essential.

 　それが長いことラプラスに抵抗し、戦力を削れば、
 　それだけオルステッドの消耗も抑えられるからだ。

 　あるいはオルステッドは、俺の存在を感知した時から、
 　ラプラスが思った通りの場所に生まれてこない可能性を考慮していたのかもしれない。
 　俺の存在で、すでにフラグ関係がおかしくなってる可能性だって、十分にあるしな。

 　オルステッドのループ開始から百数年の中で何かの拍子にそれに感付けば、そうはさせじと考えて邪魔をしようとするのも、わかる話だ。
 　龍神が目指すものなんて、ヒトガミにとって害にしかならないのだから。

 　戦争は起きる。

 　ラプラスを倒さなければヒトガミには至れず、
 　消耗しきったオルステッドではヒトガミに至っても倒す事が出来ない。

If Laplace isn't defeated, we can't reach Hitogami.
Hitogami can't be defeated by an Orsted who has been worn down.

 　そこで、ザノバの案だ。
 　俺が仲間を集めるのだ。
 　オルステッドから離れ、自由に動きまわりつつ仲間を集めて戦力を増強する。
 　８０年だか１００年だか後にあるという戦争に向けて、だ。
 　反ヒトガミ派を組織し、オルステッドをサポートしてラプラスを倒すための仲間、あるいはその下地を集めるのだ。
 　オルステッドの軍隊を作るのだ。

 　恐らく、戦いが始まる前に、俺の寿命は尽きる。
 　だが、仲間と組織と遺志を残せば、必ずやオルステッドはヒトガミを打倒してくれるだろう。

 　それを、俺の今後の人生の指針とする。

But Orsted will overthrow Hitogami for sure if I bequeath him an organization of companions.
