- Congratulations on passing the application process, but now the work begins.
- One of your very first tasks will be to choose a name for yourself as a GM. This step is actually far more important than most people give it credit.
- a. It masks the identity of your legit character.
- b. It represents both you and the server.
- The first and most obvious reason for picking a new name is to conceal the identity of your legitimate game characters. As a bright eyed GM, you might not mind people messaging you for help on your normal characters on your well earned break time but as time wears on, people will become very, very tiring.
- While I've known individuals who have kept their original names or flaunted their identity from their legits, this does not work for the vast majority of GMs. YOu really are better off concealing your identity to all but your friends.
- The second reason in the importance of choosing a good name is because it will be what represents both you as well as the staff as a whole.
- A well chosen name will lend weight to your actions whereas a poorly chosen name will leech at your authority when you most need it.
- if people find your name humorous they will have trouble respecting you from the beginning and that will just make your job that much harder. If your name carries dignity and poise, players will be much more likely to take you at your word.
- And if not just for your own sake, your choice of name can either aid or hinder the staff as a whole. One of the many goals the staff pursues is to conduct business and support in as professional manner as possible. A poorly chosen name from one staff member combined with his/her subsequent actions has the power to change the perception of the whole staff n a negative way, leading to the possibility of trouble down the road.
