  910.
  911. PARKS
  912. So if it goes off, there's not
  913. pieces of me inside of you. Plus,

  984. He starts to spread its contents, across the table.
  985.
  986. PARKS

1263. James goes to his car and watches this.
  1264.
  1265. JAMES
1266. He knows where the cat girls are,
1267. don't let him get away with that
  1268. knowledge!
  1269.
  1270. IND OFFICER 1
1271. We won't sir, just stand back.
  1272.
1273. A small army of cruisers shows up behind them.
  1274.
  1275. TORRES
1276. Don't leave me down here, I can
  1277. fucking stand, if I didn't have
1278. these cuffs I could probably beat
1279. the shit out of you, wey!
  1280.
  1281. Parks just watches this.
  1282.
  1283. PARKS
1284. You never answered my question.
  1285.
  1286. TORRES
1287. My answer is, "Fuck you."
  1288.
  1289. Parks rolls his eyes.
  1290.
1291. His hands shake in anger.
  1292.
1293. Another cruiser rolls up with Stanton in it.
  1294.
  1295. STANTON
  1296. You good, Parks?
  1297.
1298. He gives an "okay" hand symbol.
  1299.
  1300. STANTON (CONT’D)
  1301. The hell happened?
  1302.
  1303. Parks points at James.

  1309.
  1310. Stanton nods.
  1311.
  1312. STANTON

1324. Parks watches as three suburbans with lights and sirens start
  1325. advancing on their location.
  1326.
  1327. PARKS
1328. Who the hell are these guys?
  1329.
1330. Stanton steps in front of Parks and watches all of this.
  1331.
1332. The three suburbans stop and surround the officers.
  1333.
1334. One man in particular, SMITH, (late-30s) steps out holding
  1335. out a badge.
  1336.
1337. Their uniforms read, "DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY".
  1338.
  1339. STANTON
1340. Who might you folks be? You weren't
  1341. on our channels.
  1342.
  1343. SMITH
1344. Just call me Smith. This individual
1345. is of importance to national
  1346. security, you see.
  1347.
  1348. Stanton adjusts his glasses.
  1349.
  1350. STANTON
1351. He shot one of my men.
  1352.
  1353. SMITH
1354. I'm sorry to hear that-
  1355.
  1356. STANTON
  1357. I'm sorry ain't exactly going to
  1358. cut it.
  1359.
  1360. Smith glances at Parks.
  1361.
  1362. SMITH
1363. How's the arm doing? My associate
  1364. White was asking earlier.
  1365.
1366. Two of the agents walk over to where Torres is detained.
  1367.
1368. Stanton takes out his phone. Smith just patiently waits for

  1370.
  1371. STANTON
  1372. (into phone)
1373. Colin? Yeah, waiting out here with

  1377.
1378. He motions toward the officer to move away from Torres.
  1379.
  1380. SMITH
1381. Thank you for your cooperation,
1382. Lieutenant. We'll take it from
  1383. here.
  1384.
1385. Two agents pick up Torres. He spits in the direction of Parks
  1386. and glares at Stanton.
  1387.
  1388. PARKS
  1389. I'LL FUCK YOU UP!
  1390.
  1391. Stanton grabs Parks.
  1392.
  1393. STANTON
1394. Don't do this, not here.
  1395.
1396. Smith looks back at him.
  1397.
  1398. SMITH
1399. These feelings are normal, officer.
1400. Anger is a normal emotion in the
  1401. grieving process.
  1402.
1403. Parks watches as the agents get into their vehicles and drive
  1404. off.
  1405.
1406. A few tears roll down his eyes.
  1407.
  1408. PARKS
1409. I was so close, I was this close
1410. and the feds fucked it up, like
1411. they do everything fucking else!
  1412. Fuck!
  1413.
1414. Parks kicks a can next to him in anger.
  1415.
  1416. STANTON
  1417. PARKS!
  1418.
  1419. He pulls Parks aside.
  1420.
  1421. STANTON (CONT’D)
1422. Look, I get it. This ain't easy by
1423. any stretch, but you gotta keep
1424. your shit together. At least until
1425. that arm of yours heals. I'm
  1426. recommending for a promotion.
  1427.
1428. Parks puts his head down.
  1429.
  1430. STANTON (CONT’D)
1431. Just keep it together until you get
1432. put on desk duty for that.
  1433.
1434. A tear rolls down his eye.
  1435.
1436. James sees this and looks down.
  1437.
  1438. Another car pulls up.
  1439.
1440. Someone jumps out of the driver's seat.
  1441.
  1442. NELSON
  1443. WHAT THE FUCK, PARKS?!
  1444.
  1445. PARKS
  1446. My arm's feeling better!
  1447.
  1448. His eyes widened.
  1449.
  1450. NELSON
1451. Are you looking for IA to fire you?
1452. Hell, worse they get you for faking
  1453. your injuries.
  1454.
  1455. PARKS
  1456. But-
  1457.
  1458. Nelson massages his eyes.
  1459.
  1460. NELSON
1461. Please get better Parks. Go home.

  1474. PARKS (CONT’D)
1475. What the fuck is wrong with you?
  1476.
1477. Parks looks at the police scanner in the backseat of his car.
  1478.
  1479. JAMES
1480. I need to know, Dave.
  1481.
  1482. PARKS
1483. About shit that exists in Japanese
1484. cartoons? If it's fucking real?
  1485.
  1486. JAMES
1487. You don't get it, but these guys,
  1488. they're fucking connected!
  1489.
  1490. Parks glares at James.
  1491.
  1492. PARKS
1493. You stupid fuck! My partner's dead
1494. and you're looking for fantasy
1495. characters?! Tell me when you find
1496. elves with thick fookin' oirish
  1497. accents, boyo.
  1498.
  1499. JAMES
  1500. I have some proof that they're
1501. real, Dave! You just have to
  1502. believe-
  1503.
  1504. PARKS
  1505. (mockingly)
1506. Believe me Dave, they're real!
  1507.
  1508. Parks rolls his eyes.
  1509.
1510. James slicks his hair back.
  1511.
  1512. JAMES
1513. It sounds fucking nuts, okay? Just
1514. stick with it. I'll tell you if I'm
  1515. wrong.
  1516.
  1517. PARKS
  1518. IT DOES.
  1519.
1520. Parks pats his shoulder and his face grows to that of
  1521. discomfort.
  1522.
  1523. PARKS (CONT’D)
  1524. Shit. Hey James...
  1525.
1526. He starts to feel light headed.
  1527.
1528. His vision goes in and out.
  1529.
  1530. JAMES
  1531. Dave?!
  1532.
1533. Parks's eyes widen as a massive pain enters his shoulder.
  1534.
  1535. PARKS
1536. TAKE THE FUCKING CAST OFF ME!
  1537.
  1538. JAMES
  1539. Oh shit.
  1540.
1541. James pulls over and turns on his hazard lights. He takes off
1542. his seatbelt and takes out his knife.
  1543.
1544. Parks begins to scream in agony as he tries to take his cast
  1545. off with one hand.
  1546.
1547. James is hesitant as he stares at Parks, completely unsure of
  1548. what to do.
  1549.
  1550. JAMES (CONT’D)
1551. I don't need you bleeding to death
  1552. in my-
  1553.
  1554. PARKS

  1556.
  1557. JAMES

  1559.
  1560. He cuts Parks's cast.
  1561.
  1562. PARKS
  1563. DAMN IT!
  1564.
1565. James freezes up out of sheer confusion.
  1566.
  1567. PARKS (CONT’D)
  1568. KEEP GOING!
  1569.
1570. Parks starts to try and get the cast off of himself by prying
1571. at it with his hand.
  1572.
1573. James takes his knife and starts to cut his cast out.
  1574.
1575. Parks takes his jacket off. The cast comes free. Parks's
  1576. takes off his shirt.
  1577.
  1578. PARKS (CONT’D)
1579. So fucking hot in here, jesus
  1580. christ.
  1581.
1582. Bandages are wrapped around where he was shot.
  1583.
  1584. JAMES
1585. You think I should call Doc?
  1586.
1587. Parks shakes his head and starts to take the bandages off of
  1588. his shoulder, finding it...
  1589.
1590. ...As if it were unscathed by the round that had struck him.
  1591. All that's left is a scar.
  1592.
1593. Parks takes a deep breath.
  1594.
  1595. PARKS
1596. What the fuck was that man?
  1597.
1598. James just shrugs, his eyes widened.
  1599.
1600. Parks puts his shirt back on.
  1601.
  1602. PARKS (CONT’D)
  1603. Get me home.

1609. steps out of James's car.
  1610.
  1611. JAMES
1612. You gonna be good man?
  1613.
1614. Parks stretches out his left arm. A loud "pop" comes out of
1615. it as he straightens it out.
  1616.
  1617. PARKS
1618. Your guess is as good as mine.
  1619.
1620. James just looks at this, completely astounded.
  1621.
  1622. JAMES
1623. You are one lucky son of a bitch,
1624. Davey. If only the guys back then
1625. had the luck you do.
  1626.
  1627. PARKS
  1628. It doesn't change anything.
  1629.
  1630.
  1631. INT. PARKS'S HOUSE - NIGHT

  1637.
  1638. ELENA
  1639. I'm in the kitchen!
  1640.
  1641. PARKS
1642. ...I need to show you something.
  1643.
1644. Elena walks through the kitchen.
  1645.
1646. Parks turns on the light.
  1647.
1648. Elena's jaw drops as she looks at his arm.
  1649.
  1650. ELENA
  1651. Your arm...
  1652.
1653. Parks stretches out his formerly damaged left arm.
  1654.
  1655. PARKS
  1656. I don't know.
  1657.
1658. She walks over to Parks and holds him.
  1659.
  1660. ELENA
1661. They said you weren't going to make
  1662. it, Dave.
  1663.
1664. Parks closes his eyes and holds her.
  1665.
1666. He kisses her on the forehead and holds her tight.
  1667.
  1668. ELENA (CONT’D)
  1669. Lance's funeral's tomorrow. I got
1670. your dress uniform dry cleaned.
  1671.
1672. With a sigh, Parks's hands hold her tighter as he leans into
  1673. her neck.
  1674.
1675. He sits there in silence as he holds her.
  1676.
  1677. PARKS
1678. You know I gotta talk to his
1679. wife... It should have been me,
  1680. Elena.
  1681.
  1682. ELENA
  1683. Dave. You made it.
  1684.
1685. Parks sobs as he holds her.
  1686.
  1687. FADE TO BLACK.
  1688.
  1689.
  1690. INT. PARKS'S HOUSE - DAY

  1693.
1694. His face looks weary as the world around him seems to move at
1695. a different pace than he is.
  1696.
1697. He sits and eats his breakfast. His eyes look haggard.
  1698.
1699. Elena appears behind him and kisses him on the cheek.
  1700.
  1701. ELENA
  1702. I'll drive.
  1703.
  1704. Parks swallows his food.

  1714. HILL
1715. On behalf of the family, I would
  1716. like to thank you...
  1717.
1718. Parks sits there in his dress uniform.
  1719.
1720. He's spaced out. The words from the pastor drift away.
  1721.
1722. The world seems to go away as he looks out a window next to
  1723. him.
  1724.
  1725. BACK TO:
  1726.
  1727.
  1728. EXT. DESERT - DAY
  1729.
1730. Parks lays against some dirt. He's in full BDUs and looks to
1731. the right side of him into the face of a dead soldier.
  1732.
1733. The world around him is silent.
  1734.
1735. Parks takes a glance to the left.
  1736.
1737. He sees DONOVAN "DON" PAULSEN, (30) carries a wounded soldier
1738. and sets him down behind an MRAP. Don runs over to him.
  1739.
1740. He mouths something in silence then-
  1741.
  1742. DON
1743. GET UP! YOU NEED TO GET UP!
  1744.
  1745. ELENA
  1746. (faded)
  1747. Dave. Dave- Dave!
  1748.
  1749.

  1756.
  1757. ELENA (CONT’D)
1758. They want you to say a few words.
  1759.
  1760. Parks nods.
  1761.
  1762. PARKS
1763. Yeah, uh... Yeah, I'll do that.
  1764. Sorry.
  1765.
1766. The eyes of the congregation fix themselves onto Parks.
  1767.
1768. Parks makes his way up to the podium. He takes out a set of
1769. notecards. His hands shake as he looks up at the crowd.
  1770.
  1771. PARKS (CONT’D)
  1772. (into mic)
1773. You guys can hear me alright?
  1774.
1775. He looks at the front row of pews which give him a thumbs up
  1776. and a smile.
  1777.
  1778. PARKS (CONT’D)
  1779. Roger that...
  1780.
1781. He starts to rearrange his notecards.
  1782.
  1783. PARKS (CONT’D)
1784. Lance Hawkins was 21 when he taken
1785. away from us. To me, he seemed a
  1786. lot older than that.
  1787.
1788. He tries to force a smile as he looks back down at his cards,
1789. then back at the audience.
  1790.
  1791. Parks sighs.
  1792.
  1793. PARKS (CONT’D)
  1794. He was however, young,
  1795. inexperienced, and struggled. He
  1796. was stupid.
  1797.
1798. A gasp from the audience as they begin to murmur amongst
  1799. themselves.
  1800.
1801. Sergeant Steele and Nelson are in the audience. Nelson's eyes
1802. widen and he massages his eyes. Steele jots down some more
  1803. notes.
  1804.
  1805. PARKS (CONT’D)
1806. He'd made mistakes. I was hard on
1807. him and so were all the others who
1808. worked with him during his field
  1809. training period.
  1810.
1811. Parks takes another breath. His hands almost freeze up and he
1812. has to move the cards that he just spoke aside.
  1813.
  1814. PARKS (CONT’D)
1815. However, and Mrs. Hawkins please
1816. correct me if I'm wrong- He was
1817. often times trying to correct
1818. himself in his mistakes. He'd go
1819. through notepads, and I noticed
1820. that at the end of them he'd have a
  1821. set of goals.
  1822.
  1823. The audience goes silent.
  1824.
  1825. PARKS (CONT’D)
1826. He'd ask me what he missed out on.
1827. How he could do his job better, how
1828. he could himself and me safe.
  1829.
  1830. Parks chuckles.
  1831.
  1832. PARKS (CONT’D)
1833. He was obsessive with his notes and
1834. trying to better himself as an
1835. officer. Even in his final moments,
1836. he was listening to me, using
  1837. everything he learned...
  1838.
1839. Parks looks down and sets his notecards aside.
  1840.
  1841. PARKS (CONT’D)
1842. In all, we lost him. He was good.
  1843.
1844. He steps off the podium and walks back to his seat. He spots
1845. MARK DIAZ, (late-20s) sitting in the back of the room.
  1846.
  1847. PARKS (CONT’D)
  1848. Reporter?
  1849.
  1850. Parks sits back down.
  1851.
  1852. HILL
1853. At this time, I will be speaking
  1854. with Mrs. Hawkins. Refreshments
1855. will be served in the room to my
  1856. right.
  1857.
1858. People around Parks begin to stand up and converse amongst
1859. themselves. Parks makes his way over to Mark.
  1860.
1861. He continues to move over to where Mark is. Mark jots
1862. something down "unaware" in his phone next to Parks's name.
  1863.
  1864. PARKS
1865. You better have a good reason to be
  1866. here.
  1867.
1868. Mark stands up and smiles at Parks.
  1869.
  1870. MARK
1871. Step outside with me, I need a few
  1872. words with you.
  1873.
  1874. PARKS
  1875. Like hell you do!
  1876.
1877. People glance over at him.
  1878.
  1879. PARKS (CONT’D)
  1880. (hushed)
  1881. Like hell you do.
  1882.
  1883. MARK
  1884. See what I mean?
  1885.
1886. Mark puts his phone in his pocket. He stands up and walks
  1887. with Parks.
  1888.
  1889. Mark looks forward.
  1890.
  1891. MARK (CONT’D)
  1892. (whispering)
1893. Look, more people who have no idea
  1894. what you've actually just
  1895. uncovered.
  1896.
1897. LAYLA HAWKINS, (22) suddenly holds Parks, sobbing.
  1898.
  1899. LAYLA
  1900. He's never coming back! He's never
  1901. coming back.
  1902.
1903. Parks's eyes widen as he holds her.
  1904.
1905. A look of shock in Parks's eyes. Mark walks up behind her and
1906. taps her on the shoulder.
  1907.
  1908. She turns around.
  1909.
1910. He pulls out a handkerchief and passes it to her.
  1911.
  1912. MARK
1913. Mrs. Hawkins, your husband was a
1914. hero who handled the situation as
  1915. best he could.
  1916.
1917. Layla takes the handkerchief and sobs into it.
  1918.
  1919. LAYLA
1920. He was going to be a dad, Officer
  1921. Parks.
  1922.
  1923. PARKS
  1924. Dave. Just, Dave.
  1925.
1926. She sits in the pews and struggles to regain her composure.
  1927.
1928. Layla struggles to say anything.
  1929.
  1930. Her phone rings.
  1931.
  1932. LAYLA
1933. Hold on, I have to take this.
  1934.
  1935. She sniffles.
  1936.
  1937. PARKS
1938. If you need anything, just ask.
  1939.
  1940. LAYLA
  1941. Thank you, Dave.
  1942.
  1943.
  1944. EXT. CHURCH - DAY
  1945.
1946. The rain comes down. Mark leans against the wall with a
  1947. cigarette in his mouth.
  1948.
  1949. MARK
  1950. I'm surprised, newly promoted
1951. detective. You don't realize the
1952. shit you've just stepped in, do
  1953. you?
  1954.
  1955. PARKS
1956. Cut the shit, what do you know?
  1957.
  1958. MARK
1959. Well Torres is dead. Someone did
1960. you a favor, my man. Seems like the
1961. responding officers can't seem to
1962. get their radios working, so they
1963. had to use their personal phones to
1964. call up the coroner. Better meet
  1965. 'em there.
  1966.
  1967. Parks's eyes widen.
  1968.
  1969. PARKS
1970. The feds got him last night.
  1971.
  1972. MARK
  1973. (mocking)
  1974. But the feds!
  1975.
  1976. He laughs at this.
  1977.
  1978. MARK (CONT’D)
1979. Oh, the guys in suits! Right!
  1980.
1981. Parks's eyes widen in anger as he walks over to Mark.
  1982.
  1983. PARKS
1984. What the fuck are you not telling
1985. me or anyone on this investigation?
1986. There's a dead cop and you want to
  1987. play Frank fucking West?
  1988.
  1989. MARK
1990. I actually look up to the guy
  1991. myself, but-
  1992.
1993. Parks gives him a death glare and gets ready to raise his arm
1994. as if to strangle him.
  1995.
  1996. MARK (CONT’D)
1997. Okay, okay, look. I'm just on the
1998. side looking to tell the truth, the
1999. facts of the matter, you don't see
  2000. that shit anymore.
  2001.
2002. Parks motions for him to go on.
  2003.
  2004. MARK (CONT’D)
2005. The truth is, there's some kind of
2006. war breaking out. You happened to
2007. be a roadblock in the middle of it.
2008. The dead guy? Guy who got his
2009. brains blown out and caused you
2010. guys to go light up that car? Step
2011. away while you can, Dave.
  2012.
2013. He shows a scar on his neck.
  2014.
  2015. MARK (CONT’D)
2016. Because I ain't built for the world
  2017. you are.
  2018.
  2019. Parks nods.
  2020.
  2021. PARKS
  2022. That's all I need.
  2023.
  2024.
  2025. INT. CHURCH - DAY
  2026.
2027. Parks walks over to Elena.
  2028.
  2029. PARKS
  2030. I need to go.
  2031.
  2032. ELENA
  2033. Dave, his wife...
  2034.
2035. Layla is in line to look into Lance's grave.
  2036.
2037. Parks takes a moment to glance at her, then glances at his
  2038. phone.
  2039.
2040. He turns away and walks out of the church.
  2041.
  2042.
  2043. EXT. CHURCH - DAY
  2044.
2045. Nelson walks up next to Parks as he steps out.
  2046.
  2047. NELSON
2048. Parks, I advise you be careful when
2049. you do things like that. IA's been
2050. up and down your case all day,
  2051. there's a chance they found
  2052. something.
  2053.
  2054. PARKS
  2055. There's always a chance.
  2056.
2057. Parks stretches out his arm and walks over to his car.
  2058.
  2059. NELSON
2060. What happened to your cast?
  2061.
  2062. PARKS
  2063. I was just lucky, I guess.
  2064.
  2065. Nelson just shrugs.
  2066.
  2067. NELSON
  2068. Alright then.
  2069.
2070. He walks out and gets into his car.
  2071.
  2072.
  2073. INT. MORGUE - DAY
  2074.
2075. Stanton waits for him in there.
  2076.
2077. Parks reads off the case file then looks down at the body.
  2078.
2079. Two gunshots to the chest and one to the head.
  2080.
  2081. STANTON
  2082. You weren't wrong.
  2083.
  2084. PARKS
  2085. About what?
  2086.
  2087. STANTON
2088. Whatever these guys are, they got
  2089. something going with 'em.
  2090.
2091. Parks looks down at the body.
  2092.
  2093. PARKS
2094. What do we got here, Vincent from
2095. Collateral coming to take what's
  2096. his?
  2097.
  2098. STANTON
  2099. Something like that.
  2100.
2101. He points to the glass.
  2102.
2103. Three rounds sit in the clear sample glass.
  2104.
2105. Parks takes a pair of forceps and looks at them.
  2106.
  2107. PARKS
  2108. That's not a handgun round.
  2109.
  2110. STANTON
2111. Not at all, we're gonna send it up
2112. to the ME, but from the looks of
  2113. it, it's probably .308.
  2114.
2115. THOMAS SCOTT, (mid-50s) runs his scalpel down the man's
2116. chest. The three watch as the incision sows itself back up
  2117. slowly.
  2118.
  2119. SCOTT
2120. As you can see here, Mr. Torres has
2121. some kind of regenerative healing
  2122. ability.
  2123.
  2124. STANTON
2125. The hell kind of freaks are we
  2126. dealing with?
  2127.
2128. Parks watches as the incision closes itself.
  2129.
  2130. SCOTT
  2131. It's nothing I've ever seen
  2132. before.
  2133.
  2134. PARKS
  2135. Christ.
  2136.
  2137. SCOTT (CONT’D)

2143. to put on his glasses.
  2144.
2145. He turns on his saw and sparks begin to fly out.
  2146.
  2147. PARKS
  2148. (over saw)
  2149. IS THAT NORMAL?!
  2150.
2151. Scott turns off the saw and sets it down next to his other
  2152. tools.
  2153.
  2154. SCOTT
  2155. That's some kind of metal. I sent a
2156. sample up to forensics for
2157. examination, but other than tha-
  2158.
2159. The door opens and slams shut behind them.
  2160.
2161. A man MARCUS, (late-20s) and a woman, DAWN PAULSEN (early-
2162. 30s) walk into the room.
  2163.
  2164. PARKS
2165. Who the hell are you?
  2166.
2167. Marcus has an obvious grin on his face.
  2168.
  2169. MARCUS
2170. Agents Marcus Krow and Dawn
  2171. Paulsen, Department of Homeland
2172. Security, about to secure this
  2173. body.
  2174.
  2175. PARKS
2176. This body's in our custody
  2177. actually.
  2178.
2179. He bites his lip and looks over at Dawn.
  2180.
  2181. MARCUS
  2182. Oooohhh, well-
  2183.
2184. Stanton watches this in confusion.
  2185.
2186. Dawn passes a paper to Stanton.
  2187.
  2188. Stanton watches this puzzled.
  2189.
2190. He takes a look at her for a moment and just continues to
2191. watch her as he takes the paper.
  2192.
  2193. STANTON
  2194. (reading)
2195. By order of the Department of
2196. Homeland security, you are to give
2197. any details of the murder of
  2198. Officer Lance Hawkins...
  2199.
2200. His expression changes to that of anger. Stanton looks up and
2201. passes the paper back to Dawn.
  2202.
  2203. Parks's eyes widen.
  2204.
  2205. STANTON (CONT’D)
  2206. All yours then.
  2207.
  2208. PARKS
  2209. Wait, what?
  2210.
2211. Parks stands in front of the body.
  2212.
  2213. PARKS (CONT’D)
  2214. Abso fucking lutely not.
  2215.
  2216. MARCUS
  2217. You're really going to impede a
  2218. federal investigation, Officer?
  2219.
  2220. STANTON
  2221. It's detective now, actually.
  2222.
  2223. MARCUS
  2224. Well, detective!
  2225.
  2226. Marcus glances at Parks.
  2227.
  2228. MARCUS (CONT’D)
2229. I'm ordered to secure any and all
2230. evidence by any means necessary.
2231. Even if it means Miss Dawn here
2232. knocking you out and dumping you in
  2233. the desert.
  2234.
  2235. PARKS
  2236. Fuck you.
  2237.
  2238. MARCUS
2239. That's no way to speak to a federal
  2240. officer, detective.
  2241.
2242. Parks glares at Marcus, then walks out of the door in anger.
  2243.
  2244.
  2245. EXT. MORGUE - DAY
  2246.
2247. Parks bursts out of the morgue with a pack of cigarettes.
  2248.
  2249. PARKS
  2250. FUCK!
  2251.
2252. He lights one and puffs on it in anger.
  2253.
  2254. Diaz appears behind him.
  2255.
2256. He steps on a leaf. The sound causes Parks to reach for his
  2257. weapon.
  2258.
2259. With a glare, he looks at Diaz.
  2260.
  2261. PARKS (CONT’D)
2262. I take you had something to do with
2263. evidence being removed from our
  2264. jurisdiction?
  2265.
  2266. Diaz goes wide eyed.
  2267.
  2268. DIAZ
  2269. Wait. Who?
  2270.
  2271. PARKS
2272. Homeland came in with some familiar
  2273. name...
  2274.
  2275. He drops his cigarette.
  2276.
  2277. PARKS (CONT’D)
  2278. Dawn... Don... Paulsen.
  2279.
  2280. DIAZ
2281. Doc had something to do with this?
  2282.
  2283. PARKS
  2284. That's where I've heard that
  2285. fucking name.
  2286.
2287. Parks takes out his phone and thumbs through the contacts.
  2288.
  2289. DIAZ
  2290. Hey, whatever you're doing, I want
  2291. in on too.
  2292.
  2293. PARKS
  2294. No, you don't.
  2295.
  2296. DIAZ
2297. Even if I have information relating
2298. to his death that you may very well
  2299. need?
  2300.
2301. Parks stops his thumb on James's contact.
  2302.
  2303. DIAZ (CONT’D)
2304. This goes both ways you know.
  2305.
2306. Parks just looks at Diaz dead in the eyes.
  2307.
  2308. DIAZ (CONT’D)
2309. Give me your contact card.
  2310.
2311. Parks puts his phone in his pocket. He takes out his wallet
2312. and passes him his contact card.
  2313.
  2314. PARKS
2315. Email me everything you have. Until
2316. then, I have to make a phone call
  2317. to a friend.
  2318.
  2319. Diaz nods.
  2320.
2321. A van pulls out of a gate at the morgue.
  2322.
2323. Marcus sits in the driver's seat, Dawn right next to him.
  2324.
  2325. Parks goes back inside
  2326.
  2327.
  2328. INT. MORGUE - DAY
  2329.
2330. Stanton stands there and massages his eyes.
  2331.
  2332. STANTON
2333. Go home Parks, we'll figure this
2334. out next week. Rest up, get someone
2335. to take a look at you, because
2336. you're not looking too good.
  2337.
  2338. Parks just nods.
  2339.
  2340. PARKS
  2341. Yes, sir.
  2342.
2343. Parks takes another sigh as he takes out his phone. He thumbs
2344. James's contact and calls him.
  2345.
  2346. PARKS (CONT’D)
  2347. (into phone)
  2348. Yo James.
  2349.

2360. You still talking to Doc these
  2361. days?
  2362.
  2363. He unlocks his car.
  2364.
  2365. JAMES (O.S.)
2366. Yeah, kind of broke contact after
2367. the whole convoy incident though.
2368. We talk here and there.
  2369.
  2370. PARKS
  2371. (into phone)
2372. Did he ever talk about having a
  2373. sister?
  2374.
  2375. JAMES (O.S.)
2376. Nah, he was a closed box when it
2377. came to family shit. Never even
  2378. talked about LA.
  2379.
2380. Parks gets into his car.

2390. really need this info in
  2391. particular.
  2392.
  2393. JAMES (O.S.)
2394. Look, I know I barely stand you
2395. when it comes to cops, but doc is a
  2396. different animal entirely. Worked
2397. with him or not, he's not going to
2398. be thrilled you're calling him that
  2399. capacity.
  2400.
  2401. PARKS
  2402. (into phone)
  2403. Are you okay?
  2404.

  2406. What?
  2407.
  2408. PARKS
  2409. (into phone)
2410. You actually said something sane,
  2411. you're right. Fuck.
  2412.
  2413. JAMES (O.S.)
2414. I'm still looking for cat girls.
  2415.
  2416. PARKS
  2417. (into phone)
2418. Alright then, talk to you later.
