  13. Capital Description:
  14. Nyb is a planet with strong magnetic fields, scarce water, 488 day long years with a 20 hour day, at 1.08g's. Its atmosphere is mostly nitrogen and oxygen, with a large amount of atmospheric water vapor. The surface is dominated by massive basalt sand deserts, and riddled with mountains. Water vapor that becomes trapped on the mountains cools before flowing down mineral-rich rivers into large seas. The bodies of water on Nyb are not contiguous, and while mineral rich and host to most life on the planet, are not the sole centers of life. Moisture farming and nomadic herding provide much livelyhood for the majority of the populace. The major cities are hidden beneath massive-scale camouflage systems designed to mask their heat and presence.
  15.
  16. History:
  17. The first recording of the Planet Nyb was during the Rim Worlds Republic's expansion period. Explorers discovered a black planet, covered in mountains and volcanos, and promptly left it without bothering to name it. During Kerensky's blitz in 2766, where the Republic was torn down, several battalions of opportunistic soldiers took what they could and fled to the planet. When the SLDF followed them, a brief skirmish in Orbit was followed by the discovery of valuable minerals in the moon. A requisition for a brief strip-mine to restock raw resources would be granted, and the high quality titanium and lithium found in the moon would draw one of the valuable YardShips to the planet to allow for repairs and refits within supply.
  18.
  19. Unfortunately, Rim Worlds insurgents would capitalize on this seemingly safe, off the map location, and strike a weary and damaged flotilla with suicide tactics. The resulting battle was brief, but the damage to the YardShip had forced it into a decaying orbit. Most of the personnel and material were evacuated, yet a skeleton crew elected to remain aboard and attempt to arrest the crash to allow for salvage, escaping in the last minutes. As the atmospheric entry began, the sensors on the YardShip began to go haywire due to the powerful magnetic field of the planet and necessitated the crew to choose: go down with the ship, or give up on it.
  20.
  21. The decision was made when reports came in that a hitherto unreported nomadic population lived along the limited waterways of the planet, refugees and escapees from the cruelty of the Rim Worlds Republic apparently. The crew stayed aboard and gave their lives to crash the YardShip away from any populations, steering it into a canyon downstream from any populations and salvage teams. While destructive, the crash resulted in no loss of life among the populace, and the most important materials successfully salvaged. Critical parts to repair the remaining YardShips were acquired, and with enough lost on this hellhole, Nyb was once more left to the dust of history.
  22.
  23. Outsiders would only return to its orbit with the arrival of Kommandant Jacobsen Voss-Steiner in 2820. Seeking to extend Lyran, and thus Voss, authority outside of the Commonwealth through the means of least resistance, he opted to land his Battalion on Nyb to pursue rumors of a Star League era cache somewhere on the black planet. He brought with him technicians, requesitioned for a brief and fast campaign of requisition, unknowingly depriving the Commonwealth of vital knowledge during the start of the backslide into ignorance. The campaign would last 15 years, and with sunk cost setting in, multiple recall orders were ignored. The siren alure of possible advantage for house and home was too much to ignore.
  24.
  25. It was on the 15th year, on March 9th, when the hulk of the YardShip would be discovered. The cache- now a skeletal frame of rusting machinery- was all there was to claim. Debate raged on how best to strip the hulk and use its resources, before the now thoroughly-forgone Jacobsen ordered it restored. "There's enough here to build an empire" he is quoted as saying, at first derisively, and later with pride and a touch of reverence by the people of the Pharaohnate.
  26.
  27. Work would begin with extremely low morale, the homesick soldiers and technicians being told to make due. Within a month, only a a fifth of Jacobsen's command would remain. The rest of the deserting soldiers and technicians would integrate and assimilate into the native populations, a mostly nomadic people that survived through herding native duck-like creatures between the seas of the planet. Some even settled into semi-permenant settlements, taking up the role of protectors and guardians, while others went deep into the deserts and joined more warlike tribes as raiders and conquerors.
  28.
  29. It would be eight years before the YardShip, now named the city of Star's Rest (For the half-melted Cameron star proudly displayed) would begin to see its potential. The frame and machinery, things too bulky or simple to bother salvaging originally by the SLDF, now were coming to life. While the automated systems were completely gone, either looted, salvaged, or fried by electrical storms across the planet's surface, the analog systems worked just fine. IndustrialMech technicians, well-versed in the simpler machinery, were able to convert down the design to something far more manageable. The YardShip lived, though not as a ship, but as a factory.
  30.
  31. BattleMechs and DropShips, many defunct, were scuttled outright for their reactors. Water from the river within the canyon served sufficiently as fuel, though great pains were required to process it. What few supply dropships remains were tasked to make supply runs to the system's gas giant for Helium-3, of which it was mostly comprised of. All but two of the dropships never returned, leaving only the truly faithful and committed to this insane task.
  32.
  33. The factory was running, but for a megalomaniacal Lyran like Jacobsen, that was not enough. He needed a city. A kingdom. An empire. From his perch in the bridge of the YardShip, now refurbished into a palace, he commanded his soldiers raid for slaves or loot. Most ignored the order, going out instead to engage in trade, enticing those with very little to settle down in their community. Those who did try to take slaves, discovered quickly that the native Nybians were far from toothless.
  34.
  35. Descended from north African peoples largely from Morocco, Tunisia, and Egypt, the people of Nyb had come to flee persecution and tyrany far from power-hungry despots. While the refugees had hid among the original settlers, they had grown the population drastically, as well as arming them with the, at the time, more modern weapons. These tools now came to bare against the Voss-Steiner playing king. With few friends and too many enemies, the reach of the newest arrivals was limited. Years past, raids occurred on both sides, and Jacobsen grew older. Of his many bastard children, only two of them had the wherewithal to realize the desperate situation they were in.
  36.
  37. Jorgen Voss-Steiner, the eldest child and only acknowledged son, sought to secure his position amongst his siblings by gaining the approval and support of the makeshift military that served his father. Conversely, the third eldest, Hadou, looked for political means of control. The two would frequently clash, but usually cooperated, understanding the mutually perilous situation they were in. While the barely functioning factory could produce, with difficulty, hovertanks and light IndustrialMechs, it could not compare to the sheer numbers and skill of their enemies.
  38.
  39. When Jacobsen died, due to choking on his own vomit, Jorgen took control without much effort and named his brother Hadou as Vizier. While most of the siblings who survived would become officers or overseers throughout the city or military, the two brothers would establish the Pharoahnate properly. Jorgen would, at the insistence of Hadou, end up signing a truce with the most powerful of his enemies, a neighboring city across the desert which had adopted many of the deserting soldiers. He would marry the daughter of its leader, Nenkema Sassi, and formally found the Voss-Sassi line. Hadou, in recognition for his service, would be adopted into the family as Voss-Sassi as well.
  40.
  41. Forgoing the title of "king" or "archon", in a moment of pressure from Nenkema, the title of Pharaoh would be chosen. The historical Prestige of the shared Nybian ancestry would, in her words, legitimize his right to rule the planet. Thus secured, and providing weapons of war to the United cities, the newly dubbed Nybian Pharaohnate began its conquest of unification. Jorgen would have two daughters and a son, his eldest daughter becoming Pharaoh 12 years before his death, becoming Pharaoh Seshmetka Voss-Sassi in 2902. Her first acts were to ramp-up production of BattleMechs to continue the war, however supply shortages were hampering her technicians progress.
  42.
  43. It was at this point where the trapings of ancient Egypt began to take front row. Declaring the total ownership of all the planet, and that her ownership was in stewardship of the great God Khepri, Seshmetka commanded that labour's done to "bring light" be considered part of religious institutions. While slow to gain traction, the ease of entering the industry began to bring a lot of partial acceptance to the idea. The tightening of control over non-religious industry through strict licensing and renting of all industry from the Pharaoh, and by extension the government, brought significant financial power to Seshmetka.
  44.
  45. The surviving technical knowledge, primitive compared to the star league, was fostered by a lack of interruption and threat, and research into how to utilize the ferrous properties of the planet's resources was fruitful. Magnetic capacitors and shielding became the way forwards, and soon the first "light" engine was created by 2919, though they were limited in size to only those of about a 250 rating. It would take another 80 years before larger engines could even be attempted. Meanwhile, magnetic weaponry such as the "ultra-light gauss rifle" saw significant gains, creating a field gun variant of the Gauss Rifle that could be pulled by squads of Infantry and powered with large batteries. While it was a miracle that the Gauss Rifle could be reproduced at all, it quickly became the focus of the Periphery power's research.
  46.
  47. Magnetic induction, low-friction motors, and magnetic field manipulation became the core of Nybian science. Resources which had been delegated to upkeep of lasers and fabrication of conventional engines was cannibalized to stretch the supplies further, leading to more plentiful and more varied battlemechs, hovertanks, and VTOLs. The unification war, now several hundred years old, escalated aggressively with the new output. Ultimately however, the war would not end with destruction of one side over the other, but a cease-fire. Mehnkare El Houd, leader of the opposing alliance, agreed to acknowledge the claim of the Pharaoh on a singular condition: there would be a clear and unbreakable set of laws, lain out in all languages of Nyb, to give rights to all peoples.
  48.
  49. Debate raged for months on whether to accept the proposal, and years after on how best to finalize it. On the year 2928, however, a set of self-consistent and fair laws were ratified by all parties. These laws, thus dubbed the Seshmetka Code, provided legal graces and limits upon the "three peoples" of Nyb; the Meryt whom dwelled among the Pharaohnic cities, the "Medjay", or semi-nomadic alliance opposed to the unification, and the "Shusa", the fully nomadic peoples whom had largely not been affected by the wars, yet had served as mercenaries and played politics during it for their own gain.
  50.
  51. The idea of joining the Lyran Commonwealth as a fully-fledged and productive state was, by this point, completely dead. The planet and its system had fallen off the maps in the chaos of the succession wars, and with peace at last, that was enough for the Nybians. That peace would only last til 2971 however, with the change of two Pharaohs and several low-scale civil conflicts, when the third succession war's conflicts would cause contact with outsiders once more. Nyb would begin to fight against the odd pirate, desperate mercenary, and Explorer, before a decree by Pharaoh Harushotep ordered for all Meryt cities, those located in canyons and along rivers, to be disguised. Export and trade now fell to the Medjay settlements, which would play intermediary publicly to all foreigners.
  52.
  53. This had two-fold effects. First, the now-focused trade gave great economical power to the Nomarchs of the Medjay. Second, Nybian industry was now secreted away from the eyes of outsiders. While this could keep the nation safe for a time, it would not stop outsiders from playing upon internal tensions and, before long, bringing the fate of the inner sphere upon this Periphery planet. So, Harushotep ordered the second major project near the end of his reign in 2993, the expansion of Pharaohnate to all neighboring stars.
  54.
  55. While his successor, Pharaoh NepherKheprTa, would be the one to prosecute the expansion, he laid the ground work and signed on several mercenary commands and jumpships for the campaign. When his niece took the Pharaoh's seat, she ordered her Legions to the stars. Over the next 22 years, they expanded, often peacefully landing upon primitvely colonized Worlds and offering them membership, though on several occasions force was used to ensure cooperation. By the end, 6 systems and 12 planets and moons were host to the Pharaohnate's banner, that of the Djet of Horus, or Harus as the Nybians called him, over a starburst. The campaigns concluded by 3015, with the build up and conflicts to secure their borders dragging on for the next 30.
  56.
  57. When the Clan Invasion began, NepherKheprTa saw an opportunity, and contacted the old host of her family to loan her Legions in the defense of the Lyran side of the Federated Commonwealth.
  58.
  59. Nybian Regiments, well-versed in Maneuver warfare, made excellent auxiliaries to the heavier Lyran regiments. Their use of ambush tactics and reliance upon "primitive" mounted Infantry was a confusing blindspot for the Clan warmachine, with Jade Falcon in particular growing beligerantly irksome over their tactics. The animosity between Jade Falcon and the Pharaohnate would persist well into the IlClan era, though the infrequently of Nybian presence in the inner sphere limited this contact. When the FedCom Civil War began, the Pharaohnate began to retract, earning the ire of the Lyran Alliance. The first defense of their planets came as the Lyran command launched raids and assaults on their systems, with the Nybians choosing to fall into irregular warfare. The harsh climates of their planets, and the secretive nature of their core industry, made the campaign difficult for the Lyrans. Ultimately, the attacks ended due to lack of progress and gains, and within days the Pharaohnate had reclaimed all of its original territory.
  60.
  61.
  62. When the Civil War ended, NepherKheprTa declared a great festival held. Mercenaries which had served with distinction were offered permenant positions within the Pharaohnate, and while most declined politely (and were allowed to leave with their pay and well-wishes), those who accepted were incorporated into hardened and elite battalions. Over the entire reign of the Pharaoh, the Free Worlds League had been non-threatening and had even proven a useful trade partner. Now, with such a variety of BattleMechs suddenly within their logistics train, the FWL was given trade deals to help ease the conversion from personalized machines to something more easily maintained. This arrangement lasted until the Jihad, where the Nybians once more withdrew to weather the storm in secret.
  63.
  64. That would not be entirely possible, however, as the Circinus Federation was proving a dangerous neighbor. Even worse, the sudden appearance of the Escorpion Imperio at the end of the Jihad hemmed the otherwise fringe nation against two great houses with an entire clan Touman on their other side. Seeing the danger closing in, NepherKheprTa began to order a build up and stockpile of weapons, material, and machines. The economy began to suffer however, and by 3068 a new Pharaoh had taken the reigns.
  65.
  66. In what could be called an over-correction, the ironically named Akennyb began to sell off some of the excess material from the stockpile. The timing for this was incredibly poor, given the constant pressure from the clans and the economic troubles facing the government. Nybian mercenaries began to take their war machines into the inner sphere, pursuing what opportunities that presented themselves. Many of them found themselves in the employ of both the Draconis Combine and the Lyran Commonwealth, though often at the expense of the Davion and Marik house forces, earning them enmity and respect equally. This sudden outflux of skilled native warriors weakened the nation considerably, and with mounting pressure, his general usurped the throne before Akennyb's 26th birthday, just five years after his coronation. The newly crowned Narmer immediately married Akennyb's sister, though in all reality it was she who ruled from behind the throne.
  67.
  68. During his reign, the Pharaohnate would begin projects of cultural enrichment to try and recoup their losses, and to prepare for the inevitable storms to come. That conflict would be started by the Nybians, however, as the opportunity to scoop up former Circinus Federation worlds was too attractive, and swiftly brought them into uncomfortable contact with another nation playing historical dress-up, the Marian hegemony. The two made instant foes of each other, and in short order skirmishes and battles began to shake the periphery. As this low-scale war was boiling over, it would be Clan Sea Fox, now fully-nomadic, whose arrival would shake up the conflict. While initially expecting to sell scrap mechs for exorbitant prices, the Sea Fox merchants were surprised to find the Nybians disinterested in their machines, calling some of the older clan designs obsolete and undesirable. Further discussion revealed that the Nybians, while woefully behind the clans in nearly every aspect, matched their technology in the field of Gauss rifles and even surpassed them in magnetic engineering technologies.
  69.
  70. After several trials and wargames to posture and intimidate, a simple if tense alliance was established. In exchange for, to them, cheap magnetic systems and capacitors of a level they could use, Clan Sea Fox would sell the hardened electronics and sophisticated computers that the Nybians had long struggled to produce on their own. Additionally, with their aid, the Nybian factory-capital was able to increase its production by triple, while freeing up production space to produce DropShip components that could be assembled elsewhere on the planet. Clan Sea Fox considers the Nybian Pharaohnate a protectorate, and while the feeling is far from mutual, the Pharaohnate has on many occasions provided Sea Fox aimags with near at-cost assistance and shelter, especially against the rising Scorpion Empire and the egotistical Wolf Empire.
  71.
  72. The diplomatic presence of the Pharaohnate would be further strengthened by the mutual enemy the Nybians shared with the Magistracy. As the Nybians tied up resources, less was diverted to the south. The two nations would agree in 3118 to mutual trade and an agreement of non-aggression, a rarity in the Inner Sphere but one the reclusive Nybians and peaceful Canopians could easily abide by. As if to commemorate the pact, Narmer's first child was born a healthy boy. The dawning Dark Age would grind the campaign to a standstill, one which would necessitate Narmer's departure to lead from the front. While his return would never come, the young Ramses would emulate his skill closely. He assumed the throne at 24, in the year 3134, and immediately began to mobilize his armies to conquer. The Pharaohnate's interests in Baltazar III had not waned during the Dark Age, nor had it been blinded by idealism or innocence to the chance to do unto the Free World's League before it could do unto them. Recent events have brought the Draconis Combine's ire, and warming relations with the newly-helmed Lyran Commonwealth seem to be drawing the Nybians into the Inner Sphere once more.
  73.
  74. While ambitions as these would easily be squashed by the fury of the war-fired Inner Sphere, escaping and embittered Knights of the Republic have come to the Pharaohnate seeking shelter, aid, and succor. A boon, the shrewd Pharaoh reasons, that will be returned with Terran technology and Knightly skill. With promises of retaliation and a survival of their ideals, the Knights of Amun-Ra have been founded, adopting the Blue-and-Gold of the Nybian Royal Legion. Their skills and machines are exactly the stimulus required to fuel a Pax Nybia.
  75.
  76. Now, Pharaoh Ramses of the Voss-Sassi Dynasty sets into motion a periphery war of his own, seeking to grab Baltazar III and its neighbors, before conquering the staggering and bloodied Marian Hegemony. All while courting Clan Sea Fox, eager to secure HPG connection for his people, as they erect great monuments to their thriving culture and civilization amid the chaos of the death of the Republic. Ambitious to be sure, but what God King has ever left a mark without a dash of recklessness? Gaze upon his works, ye mighty, and despair!

  89.
  90. Brand Names:
  91. Some items have unique Nybian names. Their engined are called LightBringer MangeStars, their armor is called KheprShell Composite, with rankings from A to D, designating the level of carbon polymers present. PPCs are always named in terms of their damage rating, so the Sunflare10 is a standard PPC, while the Sunflare10/short is a Snubnose PPC. Gauss weapons are given the brand name of Godsling type Yan, while the Light and Ultralight are the Godsling type Sin and Krad respectively. The AP Gauss is instead called the VolleyStone system. No unique communications or tracking gear is produced, all being descended from the systems of earlier periods. Recent efforts are currently working on home-developing new system but it is slow going, with the Datacomm 50 and the Sloane 220 Lockover System being produced mostly. The current frontrunner for a replacement system is the Obelisk type Sin d Tam communication system, though it has not been thoroughly tested. All missile systems are branded Javelin, and rated according to their tubes. A Javelin/5-MM and a Javelin/5-LRM are an example.
  92.
  93. Factories:
  94. The Nybian factory of Starest has multiple temples, each devoted to both worship and the creation of Nybian materiel. While each from-scratch manufactured Mech has its own Temple, refit lines and hovertank lines are usually multiple to a temple. The exception being the DropShips, which are produced in pieces but assembled elsewhere.
  95.
  96. Factory-Temple Yan (120 Engines), Factory-Temple Sin (240 engines), Factory-Temple Krad (275 engines), Factory-Temple Kkuz (280, 285 Engines), Factory-Temple Smmus (300 engines), Factory-Temple Sdis (225, 175 Engines), Factory-Temple Sa (360, 380 Engines), Factory-Temple Tam (320, 330), Factory-Temple Tza (Composite-Steel Structure, Ferro-Fiber Armor plating), Factory-Temple Mraw (PPCs, Gauss Systems), Factory-Temple Yan d Mraw (Myomers, Munitions), Factory-Temple Sin d Mraw (Electronics, Computers)
  97.
  98. Other temples produce other goods such as mechs, which are unlisted.

  148.
  149. Gnoll: Built to create an aggressive, cheap, and plentiful attack mech which could take a hit and keep going, the Gnoll is a fusion of Gladiator and Hatchetman parts. It is sturdier than either design, though lacks some of the perks of either. Instead, this machine charges ahead on foot.
  150.
  151. Grand Camel CaravanMech: A massive upscale of the Scorpion, the Grand Camel can haul up to two-hundred tons of cargo across the sands of the Pharaohnate's land routes with ease.
  152.
  153. Crocodile: A down-scale of the Goliath, the Crocodile is a quad trooper mech meant to give the Pharaohnate a means by which to hold ground, a task it often finds its mobile mechs and tanks fail to accomplish as often as they should. Built to play slugging matches with other, similar machines, the Crocodile moves fairly well and is extremely well armored for its weight. It lacks a plethora of weaponry, though makes up for this with its ability to anchor for the rest of its Quiver.
