- [00:27] <Strategist14> ===== BEGIN =====
- [00:28] <Strategist14> Nothing. The entire place is not only abandoned, but outright deserted. You get the feeling that this was more of an evacuation than anything, with all the birds and other creatures leaving in an ordered fashion that left the place pristine.
- [00:29] <Strategist14> There are no signs of a struggle, no litter that got dropped in a rush, nothing.
- [00:29] <Strategist14> Except for the Basilisk.
- [00:30] <Rrobin> >Rrobin: Contemplate fate.
- [00:31] <Rrobin> Well, you did defeat the other one.
- [00:32] <Strategist14> The basilisk stares at you, unblinking. Almost as if it's daring you to try something.
- [00:33] <Rrobin> You look around for something you could throw at it.
- [00:33] <Rrobin> The need for a ranged attack rises once again.
- [00:35] <Strategist14> While the park is in a remarkably orderly state, this doesn't mean it is entirely without decoration. A short distance away, a picnic table is surrounded by metal chairs. Those could serve as projectiles, if you have nothing else.
- [00:36] <Rrobin> Not really. You don't want to release the bees.
- [00:37] <Strategist14> Four chairs sit around the table. You think you might be able to pick the table up too, but probably not well enough to actually throw it any reasonable distance
- [00:39] <Rrobin> Can you throw the chairs at the basilisk from the table's location?
- [00:40] <Strategist14> The table sits about fifty feet away. It would be a much easier shot if you were to get closer, but you can at least try from this far away. You aren't sure they'll make the full distance though, and throwing with any accuracy is right out.
- [00:41] <Rrobin> How close would you need to get to throw the chairs?
- [00:42] <Strategist14> Let's say 25 feet with disadvantage, 15 feet without. Chairs aren't well-known for being particularly aerodynamic.
- [00:44] <Rrobin> Ugh. At that point you might as well use your chains. But, this has given you an idea. You grab the table, and flip it 90 degrees, putting it like a shield between you and the basilisk. Hopefully this will protect you against at least one flame attack.
- [00:46] <Strategist14> It's fairly heavy, but considering the basilisk has yet to make any outright aggressive move at you, you manage it after a few seconds.
- [00:49] <Rrobin> With your improvised shield against the basilisk, you approach it. You ready an action to either turn the table if it tries to circle you, or grapple it if it comes too close.
- [00:49] <Strategist14> The snakelike creature doesn't react. It just keeps staring at you with its blue and orange eyes.
- [00:50] <Rrobin> How close are you?
- [00:50] <Strategist14> How close would you like to go?
- [00:51] <Rrobin> 10 feet, unless it reacts first.
- [00:52] <Strategist14> It does not. You stand 10 feet away from the basilisk. Roll Insight.
- [00:53] <Rrobin> !roll 1d20+2
- [00:53] <Tyche[Dice]> Rrobin rolled : 1d20+2 --> [ 1d20=3 ]{5}
- [00:53] <Strategist14> It's waiting for... something.
- [00:54] <Rrobin> (Can I stand still and try to figure out what its up to?)
- [00:55] <Strategist14> You can stand still if you like, but not make another check unless you get some new information to work with
- [00:56] <Rrobin> You survey your surroundings, scanner active. Maybe the surroundings has the key?
- [00:58] <Strategist14> As before, the entire place has been cleared out while you slept. The rides are all shut down, the vendors closed, the streets empty. Above you and the basilisk floats the gate home, a short distance away from a section of rollercoaster that you at one point noted could have served as a place to jump to it from.
- [00:59] <Rrobin> You look down at the ground you're standing on.
- [01:01] <Strategist14> Tiled stone, the same as the rest of the streets so far. The light from the gate's flashing motion plays along the ground around you and your opponent.
- [01:01] <Rrobin> You call bullshit on him waiting on something.
- [01:02] <Rrobin> !roll 2#1d20+4 to hook
- [01:02] <Tyche[Dice]> Rrobin rolled : 2#1d20+4 to hook --> [ 1d20=19 ]{23}, [ 1d20=14 ]{18}
- [01:02] <Rrobin> !roll 4d6+4 (assuming both hit)
- [01:02] <Tyche[Dice]> Rrobin rolled : 4d6+4 (assuming both hit) --> [ 4d6=15 ]{19}
- [01:03] <Strategist14> ... But the basilisk isn't there.
- [01:03] <Strategist14> It stares at you, immobile, from about twenty feet to your left.
- [01:03] <Strategist14> Miss.
- [01:04] <Rrobin> ...
- [01:05] <Strategist14> It flashes you an extraordinarily wide grin.
- [01:05] <Rrobin> You abandon the table, dash up to it and attack again.
- [01:05] <Rrobin> !roll 2#1d20+4
- [01:05] <Tyche[Dice]> Rrobin rolled : 2#1d20+4 --> [ 1d20=5 ]{9}, [ 1d20=12 ]{16}
- [01:06] <Strategist14> And now the basilisk is behind you, still waiting. The table begins sliding back to the spot you dragged it from.
- [01:09] <Rrobin> How long was the jump to the gate again?
- [01:10] <Strategist14> From the rollercoaster? About 25 feet, but you would have a height advantage.
- [01:12] <Rrobin> You move towards the rollercoaster, and begin to climb.
- [01:12] <Strategist14> The basilisk watches you, and the table retakes its place. Roll Athletics.
- [01:13] <Rrobin> !roll 1d20+
- [01:13] <Tyche[Dice]> Rrobin rolled : 1d20+ --> error: malformed expression
- [01:13] <Rrobin> !roll 1d20+9
- [01:13] <Tyche[Dice]> Rrobin rolled : 1d20+9 --> [ 1d20=14 ]{23}
- [01:14] <Strategist14> You make it up to the track relatively unimpeded. It should be easy to climb along it and reach the best point to jump from here
- [01:14] <Rrobin> You do so.
- [01:15] <Strategist14> As you reach the apex, you can see the gate hovering in the air beneath you. Waiting directly underneath it, the skeletal basilisk grins up at you.
- [01:16] <Rrobin> Hang on a second.
- [01:16] <Rrobin> You remember the last time you were going to jump something.
- [01:17] <Rrobin> This fu- this crreature was there then too.
- [01:17] <Rrobin> You get the feeling he's waiting for you to jump.
- [01:18] <Strategist14> The serpent waits.
- [01:19] <Rrobin> You apologize for any property damage you might cause, and then you begin to bend lose pieces of the rollercoaster.
- [01:20] <Strategist14> Roll Engineering to find the weakest points to target, then Str to actually do so
- [01:21] <Rrobin> !roll 1d20+1 engineering
- [01:21] <Tyche[Dice]> Rrobin rolled : 1d20+1 engineering --> [ 1d20=17 ]{18}
- [01:21] <Rrobin> !roll 1d20+4
- [01:21] <Tyche[Dice]> Rrobin rolled : 1d20+4 --> [ 1d20=9 ]{13}
- [01:22] <Strategist14> You easily pick out the easiest segments to remove, and get to work
- [01:24] <Rrobin> How aerodynamic would it be?
- [01:25] <Strategist14> A good deal better than the chairs would have been. Considering your height advantage, easily enough to fling at the skeletal basilisk.
- [01:26] <Rrobin> Hm.
- [01:26] <Rrobin> You look down.
- [01:26] <Rrobin> How high is the drop?
- [01:27] <Strategist14> Somewhere between 40 and 50 feet. It's difficult to say for sure.
- [01:29] <Rrobin> That's not too bad.
- [01:30] <Rrobin> You weigh the object you removed in your hand.
- [01:30] <Strategist14> Let's say it weighs roughly five pounds.
- [01:31] <Rrobin> Then, you throw it at the basilisk and immediately after you jump.
- [01:31] <Strategist14> Roll Str to hit, then Athletics to jump, I'm assuming towards the gate.
- [01:32] <Rrobin> !roll 1d20+4 to hit
- [01:32] <Tyche[Dice]> Rrobin rolled : 1d20+4 to hit --> [ 1d20=8 ]{12}
- [01:32] <Rrobin> !roll 1d20+9 to jump
- [01:32] <Tyche[Dice]> Rrobin rolled : 1d20+9 to jump --> [ 1d20=11 ]{20}
- [01:35] <Strategist14> Your thrown shrapnel clatters to the ground next to the snakelike creature. It looks up at you, shudders slightly, and yanks you earthwards.
- [01:36] <Strategist14> Your trajectory shifts entirely of its own accord, and you fall to the ground. Despite this, however, you don't seem to be injured despite the distance it just forced you to go and the sudden stop at the end.
- [01:37] <Strategist14> You and the basilisk stand in front of one another beneath the gate. It winks.
- [01:38] <Rrobin> "What do you want."
- [01:39] <Strategist14> "you got a whole lotta EXP."
- [01:39] <Rrobin> "So?"
- [01:40] <Strategist14> It grins at you some more.
- [01:40] <Rrobin> "What arre you implying?"
- [01:40] <Strategist14> "i want it."
- [01:41] <Rrobin> "I would rratherr not."
- [01:42] <Strategist14> "okay. i can wait."
- [01:44] <Rrobin> "Forr what?"
- [01:44] <Strategist14> "for you to say yes."
- [01:44] <Rrobin> "Why would I?"
- [01:45] <Strategist14> If that's even possible, the grin widens even more. Come to think of it, how is this thing even talking through its smile like that? Weird.
- [01:45] <Strategist14> "because eventually you'll get bored."
- [01:46] <Rrobin> That's not the weird thing here.
- [01:48] <Rrobin> "I am fairrly patient."
- [01:48] <Strategist14> "maybe." It nods a bit, but doesn't expand on that.
- [01:49] <Rrobin> "What would you want the exp forr, anyway?"
- [01:49] <Strategist14> "same thing you do. a higher LV."
- [01:50] <Rrobin> "Echeladderr?"
- [01:50] <Strategist14> "LOVE."
- [01:51] <Rrobin> You contemplate if saying "Wrrong game" would be metagaming.
- [01:51] <Strategist14> Roll Metagaming
- [01:51] <Rrobin> !roll 1d20 for metagaming
- [01:51] <Tyche[Dice]> Rrobin rolled : 1d20 for metagaming --> [ 1d20=10 ]{10}
- [01:52] <Strategist14> It probably would be
- [01:53] <Rrobin> Worse sins have been committed.
- [01:53] <Strategist14> Very true
- [01:54] <Rrobin> "I, uh, think you arre in the wrrong game. Therre is no such thing as LOVE in this game, only Echeladderr rrung."
- [01:54] <Rrobin> You also contemplate saying that auto-dodging all attacks is very bad manners in a dice based game.
- [01:54] <Strategist14> "then i want that too." It shrugs. Somehow.
- [01:55] <Rrobin> "It is verry rrude to auto-dodge attacks in a dice-based game."
- [01:55] <Strategist14> "i'll stop if you give me your EXP."
- [01:56] <Rrobin> "That is not even close to how EXP worrks. It is a measurrement of combat experrience, that you can not just 'give.' That is not how it worrks."
- [01:57] <Strategist14> "is that a no?"
- [01:57] <Rrobin> "That is a no, and a 'It is not possible.'"
- [01:57] <Rrobin> "And even if it was, I would not."
- [01:58] <Strategist14> "okay."
- [01:58] <Strategist14> It keeps staring at you.
- [01:58] <Rrobin> "You do rrealize that EXP is not difficult to earrn."
- [01:59] <Strategist14> "yeah, i'm just really lazy."
- [01:59] <Strategist14> "come on, it'll be easy for you to get it back."
- [02:00] <Rrobin> "How much EXP arre we talking?"
- [02:00] <Strategist14> "dunno. how much you got?"
- [02:00] <Rrobin> "I trry my best not to be unrreasonable. It is a sign of a small mind."
- [02:02] <Rrobin> "I could give you 74 EXP, if you want it so badly. But then I want something in rreturrn."
- [02:02] <Strategist14> "like being allowed to play the rest of the game?"
- [02:04] <Rrobin> "Just something small in rreturrn. Makes it feel less like extorrtion and morre like trrade. And, I will prrobably be open forr morre deals in the futurre."
- [02:04] <Strategist14> "i think letting you keep playing LOFEAST is a pretty good trade."
- [02:06] <Rrobin> "I am just asking forr grrist. With it, I can make betterr gearr, which lets me earrn morre EXP, and I'll give 74 morre EXP at anotherr occasion."
- [02:06] <Rrobin> "See of it as an investment."
- [02:06] <Strategist14> The basilisk thinks about your offer. Roll Persuasion.
- [02:07] <Rrobin> !roll 1d20+1 persuasion
- [02:07] <Tyche[Dice]> Rrobin rolled : 1d20+1 persuasion --> [ 1d20=17 ]{18}
- [02:07] <Strategist14> Eventually, it nods.
- [02:07] <Strategist14> "alright. we have a deal. grist for EXP."
- [02:07] <Rrobin> "So, how much grrist forr EXP?"
- [02:09] <Strategist14> "hmm..."
- [02:10] <Rrobin> "Build grrist does me little good. I am morre interrested in the higherr tierr grrist."
- [02:11] <Strategist14> "how high?"
- [02:12] <Rrobin> "Tierr thrree? Perrhaps a new type would unlock morre items."
- [02:13] <Strategist14> "mmmm... yeah, okay. howzabout twenty EXP for one tier three grist?"
- [02:14] <Rrobin> "That is a bit steep, perrhaps."
- [02:15] <Strategist14> "okay. nineteen?"
- [02:16] <Rrobin> "Does 74 EXP forr 5 Tierr thrree sound good?"
- [02:17] <Strategist14> "mmm.... why seventy four?"
- [02:18] <Rrobin> "It is the maximum I am willing to give you at the moment."
- [02:18] <Strategist14> "well, maybe seventy four for four grist."
- [02:19] <Rrobin> "That sounds good."
- [02:19] <Strategist14> "okay. and as an added bonus, i'll even let you go play your game."
- [02:20] <Rrobin> "And I will be open forr morre deals in the futurre."
- [02:21] <Strategist14> "so we have a deal." The basilisk produces four pieces of T3 grist from... nowhere in particular.
- [02:23] <Rrobin> You collect it.
- [02:24] <Rrobin> "Yes."
- [02:24] <Strategist14> The basilisk nods, and a thin layer of stone begins to spread across its flesh. It gestures, and you begin to rise up towards the gate.
- [02:25] <Rrobin> Added 4 T3 grist and removed 74 EXP.
- [02:25] <Strategist14> Gain 75 XP for technically defeating the basilisk
- [02:25] <Strategist14> Any last words before it sends you through the gate?
- [02:26] <Rrobin> "Pleasurre doing business with you."
- [02:26] <Strategist14> It doesn't say anything, only grins up at you.
- [02:26] <Strategist14> You reach the gate, and the world disappears.
- [02:27] <Strategist14> ===== END =====
