- Early Childhood Educator - 2 (Part-Time)

- Major Responsibilities:
- Participates in planning and implements developmental programs under the direction of the Early Childhood Educator Grade 1, appropriate to assigned age group, to enhance the children's cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development in accordance with the Day Nurseries Act, and the divisional Operating Criteria (Program activities include holidays/special events). Incorporates learning experiences designed to meet the individual needs of the children and therapeutic programs such as speech therapy or physiotherapy, as required. Accompanies children to destinations and on field trips etc.
- Provides input on the assessment of group and individual progress for the evaluation of programs to meet developmental and cultural needs of children
- Observes children's progress and behaviour. Assesses individual and group needs. Identifies special needs. Completes developmental profiles and progress charts
- Responds to parent/designated family members/school staff enquiries regarding children's progress, behaviour, and health. Promotes parental involvement
- Feeds children/infants and ensures they are adequately nourished and that any special dietary requirements are met
- Diapers and/or toilet trains children, as required
- Instructs and assists children in washing, dressing, toileting, eating, etc. to develop self help skills
- Conducts daily health check of children, records illness and contacts parents re: illness. Administers medications as authorized by physician and maintains records of all medications administered. Administers first aid, as required, and records/reports same
- Participates with other staff to ensure the safety and well being of the children while in the care of the centre
- Checks toys and equipment used in activities to ensure safe functioning and sanitizes same. Sets up activity area and tidies same. Checks area for safety
- Documents attendance of children, washroom charts, etc. and prepares accident reports as necessary
- Assigns tasks to Child Care Aide and Day Care and Recreational Assistant as necessary
- Demonstrates proper procedures, provides work direction and participates in evaluation for Early Childhood Education students
- Participates in staff and team meetings, taking and transcribing minutes on a rotational basis
- Key Qualifications:
- Graduation from an approved program in Early Childhood Education or provincially recognized equivalent.
- Current registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators
- Considerable experience in licensed Child Care work and activities.
- Ability to supervise children.
- Ability to cooperate and follow instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Fundamental knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Day Nurseries Act, Child and Family Services Act and the ability to meet the specifications of these acts and any other related regulations that apply to this work.
- Ability to lift/carry children.

- Additional Information: This is a unionized (CUPE - Local 79 P/T B) position. Successful candidates will be required to undergo a preplacement medical assessment and a Police Reference Check.
