  1. Hello,
  2.
  3. Mojang's terms of service and brand guidelines are designed to let you know in plain terms what you can and cannot do with your game, the Mojang brand or Mojang assets.
  4.
  5. You can view the terms at https://account.mojang.com/terms
  6.
  7. Server specific guidelines can be found on these pages:
  8.

  12.
  13. Since we have received a lot questions regarding the commercial guidelines when it comes to servers, we wanted to provide you with some additional clarifications and examples of what you can sell for hard versus soft currency.
  14.
  15.
  16. Examples of things you can sell for hard currency, “real money”, (as long as it doesn’t give the player any unfair advantage):
  17.
  18. -Personal time or weather in the lobby.
  19.
  20. -The ability to see which players that are nearby in creative mode.
  21.
  22. -The ability to bypass database purges.
  23.
  24. -The ability to fly in the lobby.
  25.
  26. -Making flying available on specific parts of a server, for an example within a faction or on an island, as long as all players have the exact same ability to fly. The area where players can fly may not be based on a specific player’s location.
  27.
  28. -Making other players on a creative mode server invisible to yourself, as long as you cannot place blocks in places where you normally wouldn’t be able to.
  29.
  30. -Access to a separate lobby on the same server, as long as it doesn’t give access to any additional games, etc.
  31.
  32. -Access to test versions or additional games that are hosted on another server (using another connecting address, i.e. premium.example.com) included with the rank for another server, as long as any items or soft currency that are earned in them cannot be carried over to another server.
  33.
  34. -Access to several servers with the same purchase, as long as any items or soft currency that are earned on them cannot be carried between the servers.
  35.
  36. -Access to contests based on stats (i.e. most blocks mined etc.), if the prize is cosmetic.
  37.
  38. -Access to non-cosmetic perks in the lobby, such as riding pets or horses that move faster than a player on foot, or being able to jump extra far or high. Keep in mind that if it gives the player any unfair advantage you can only sell it for soft currency.
  39.
  40. -Access to additional or larger plots on creative mode servers.
  41.
  42. -The ability to bypass an AFK kick timer, meaning that you will not get disconnected from the server if you leave the computer for a while.
  43.
  44. -Server boosters (such as “double coins for all players during the next hour“) that are applied to only one specific game on a server, as long as anything gained in the specific game cannot be brought to another game on the server.
  45.
  46. -Items and perks that affect gameplay that everyone on the server gets equally. By everyone, we, in this case, mean all players that are currently online. You can, of course, choose to give it to all players that have been online during the past 24 hours, all players that ever have connected, ever will connect, or to all players that execute a specific command (available to everyone) in order to receive the item or perk.
  47.
  48.
  49. Examples of things that may only be offered for soft currency (a currency that can only be earned in-game):
  50.
  51. -Commands to open a portable crafting table, chest, ender chest, compass, etc.
  52.
  53. -Personal time or weather everywhere.
  54.
  55. -A command to clear your inventory.
  56.
  57. -An item that kills the player when used/consumed.
  58.
  59. -The ability to create additional warps, no matter who can use them.
  60.
  61. -The ability to set additional homes (related to the /home command).
  62.
  63. -The ability to use the /home command, even if non-paying players get the same amount of homes but no command to quickly get to them.
  64.
  65. -The ability to use the /back command, which allows players to teleport to their last location.
  66.
  67. -The ability to see other players’ inventory, other than in creative mode.
  68.
  69. -The ability to see which players that are nearby, everywhere.
  70.
  71. -The ability to see the crafting recipe for an item without looking it up on the wiki.
  72.
  73. -A command to remove the enchantment from an item.
  74.
  75. -Bedrock blocks.
  76.
  77. -The ability to use WorldEdit and similar mods, regardless of where you can use it.
  78.
  79. -A non-cosmetic item or perk that is dropped in an area accessible by everyone, whether other players are notified of the drop or not.
  80.
  81. -A non-cosmetic item or perk as a prize after fighting a boss in an area accessible by everyone, whether other players are notified of the event or not.
  82.
  83. -A command to automatically sell blocks that you mine.
  84.
  85. -A command to automatically compress resources to their block form.
  86.
  87. -“Lives” or reduced ban time on so-called deathban game modes. If you have a single entrance fee for your server, it needs to be the same for all players, including the ones connecting for the first time.
  88.
  89. -The ability to fly in places outside of the lobby.
  90.
  91. -Schematics, regardless of game mode on the server.
  92.
  93. -The ability to keep your inventory when you die.
  94.
  95. -Higher bandwidth (this goes against the “net neutrality” principle).
  96.
  97. -Access to contests based on stats (i.e. most blocks mined etc.), if the prize is not cosmetic.
  98.
  99. -Items or perks that affect gameplay, even if they are also available through soft currency purchase, or just by playing the game for a certain time.
  100.
  101.
  102. The lists are not complete, meaning that you should use these to understand easier the commercial guidelines located at https://account.mojang.com/terms#commercial. If something is not covered by the commercial guidelines, that probably means we do not want you to do it.
  103.
  104.
  105. Some further clarifications:
  106.
  107. -You may not sell so-called “unbans”, “unmutes”, or similar admin tools, for your server, regardless of who receives the money.
  108.
  109. -If you give anything in return for voting for your server, such as “Vote tokens” or other items, the same restrictions apply as for hard currency (real money). Giving soft currency in return for voting is not allowed. You can, however, have a “vote goal” (similar to a donation goal) and give the same item/perk (cosmetic or not) to all players currently online (regardless if they have voted or not).
  110.
  111. -You are free to set whichever prices you want in your store. $500 hats are okay.
  112.
  113. -Our commercial guidelines state that you must ensure that you provide any user who gives you money an online payment or purchase history. If you provide this through the Minecraft client or over email (with reasonable response time) we consider this to be sufficient, but please make sure that it is in line with any applicable laws for your region.
  114.
  115. -You may not sell soft currency for hard currency, neither separately or along with ranks as a single or recurring payout. This is regardless of what you can use the soft currency for.
  116.
  117.
  118. We apologize if you have received conflicting information from us regarding this earlier, but this is the official interpretation of the server specific commercial guidelines.
  119.
  120. Best regards,
  121.
