  1. The movie opens with a flashback of a scene between TS2 and TS3 in an indeterminate time. Andy has left RC outside and a storm begins to emerge, threatening to wash RC away in a gutter drain. The toys panic and try to cause a diversion to get Molly out of her room because her window is the only vantage point they have. Bo is seen working together with all the toys to rescue RC by opening the window and using Slinky as a lifeline stretched outside. Buzz and Woody rappel down to the ground in the pouring rain with Slinky while Bo and the others hold his back end securely. Woody and Buzz reach RC right as he is about to be taken by the flowing river of mud and grime and try to yank him out while also holding onto Slinky, but a Pizza Planet truck whizzes by (Ironically also implying this is the same truck Lotso hitches a ride on), causing RC to be forcefully whisked away at the last second. RC is taken by the river off into the distance and the forceful pull from him slipping away causes Woody and Buzz to fling backwards and the others in the back fling back also from the momentum, Bo included, who was holding onto Slinky the tightest. Unfortunately for her this causes Bo to get pushed into a wall and her arm breaks off. The toys all meet up again as they mourn over RC and tend to Bo.

  3. The following day Molly's mom discovers Bo's arm missing and decides to send her to the attic because she thinks Molly was responsible for damaging her, and wants to keep her safe because she is a "rare antique". She wraps her arm back up and carries her into the attic. Another few sad scenes afterwards occurs where Woody and the others occassionally try to make contact with Bo who is perpetually stuck in the attic. Woody has a conversation with her through the ceiling as she talks to him through the attic door and they promise they will meet her again, but since theyd bring suspicion upon themselves if they brought her back down then they are left with no alternatives. Another undisclosed period of time passes and Bo, now donning her new look with her dress turned inwards as a cape, decides to escape the house and venture off on her own, presumably having made up her mind about being treated like an antique collecting dust while the others get played with on the regular. Woody comes in to check on Bo excitedly to tell her of a new plan to get her back down without suspicion, but upon entering above he finds a farewell note from Bo, and he stares out a window as the logo of Toy Story 4 fades in above the sky as it zooms out from the house.

  5. It cuts back to present time where the toys are having fun playing inside Bonnie's room. Bonnie comes home from school and tells her mom she got an A on her arts and craft assignment, and she scurries over to her room, causing the toys to play dead. Bonnie pulls Forky out of her backpack and begins to play with the other toys alongside him, until bonnies mom calls her to show her a report card. Bonnie protests but she blackmails her by saying she wont be able to bring her toys to the RV on the road trip they have planned the following day (A saturday), a trip to visit her grandparents upstate. She leaves with the card leaving Forky behind as the toys turn alive again and marvel at Forky, who after a few seconds of staring at everyone and then his own hands, proceeds to FLIP the fuck out, running around yelling and screaming and yelling at each toy that tries to introduce themselves. Woody tries to calm him down as he corners him into a corner explaining they are all friends, but Forky doesn't understand what is happening and begins to jab himself into a wall with his pronged head. Woody tries to explain that he is Bonnie's toy but Forky claims he is a fork, and that his only purpose is to jab things (This is why the teaser mentions Woody warning the others to get him "before he pokes an eye out"). Each of the toys try to persuade him to no avail, until Jessie suddenly gets an idea to bring him over with them to the planned RV trip. She takes out a brochure from under Bonnie's bed describing an annual carnival event that sets up shop every year on the stop to her grandparents home. They conclude that they can show Forky what it means to be a toy because there will be toys in the carnival waiting to be won and loved by new owners, showing Forky that a toy is meant to spread joy and happiness to children. Forky objects to this by yelling "I DONT KNOW YOU PEOPLE!" and proceeds to escape by sliding under the closed door and towards the backyard. The rest of the toys start to freak out worrying his antics will scare off someone if they saw him, so they work together to open the door and sort of play a game of cat and mouse where the toys try to capture him, finally culminating with Jessie swooping him up into a sock against his will.

  7. The next morning the toys are brought over to the RV by Bonnie (While forky remains trapped in a sock, which got placed inside a backpack zipper). They begin their trip and a montage of the family RV begins as it drives through many countryside roads. At night, they stop at an RV camping site next to the fair and the toys briefly congregate deciding on who should be in charge of Forky as they lead him around the carnival. Its decided that Buzz will be the one restraining Forky as Woody leads the way, with the others lieing in wait should he escape. Woody decides to scout out ahead on the fairgrounds to acclimate himself to his surroundings so he can plot out the tour for Forky. However... He notices a toy throwing darts at a balloon on a game stand nearby underneath a faint light. It turns out to be .... none other than Bo. The 2 are elated to finally meet each other again and are bewildered about their circumstances and the time that has passed. Woody starts getting tongue twisted trying to explain he had a plan to save her before she left that fateful day, but Bo motions him to be quiet with a finger to his mouth and says that it is okay. Woody then tells her about what he was doing with Forky and asks her if she would like to join in on helping with the proceeding and she agrees, and Woody starts to bring up the possibility of her joining them with Bonnie as a new toy again, but before they talk any further a loud booming voice echoes from the distance near the shopping district in front of the fair telling Bo that its time to come back inside. Bo hastily tells Woody that she has to leave now but promises to return and they decide on a designated spot. She is seen running off into the dark towards a store with a sign that says "ANTIQUES" and Woody hurries to tell the gang about his reunion with Bo. The other toys are happy and relieved to know she is still alive, and he tells Buzz to bring Forky with him to a designated spot. They all go to sleep for the following day.

  9. The next day, Bonnie and her mom go off into the carnival to play on some carnival rides. This allows them to go with their planned tour. Woody heads off first to the spot he promised because he is too excited about being with Bo again, so much so that he kind of leaves Buzz behind with Forky. Buzz tries to catch up with Forky between his arms in a bear hug hold but he trips on a crack in the sidewalk, and Forky happily shouts as he makes his escape yet again, heading off to an opposite direction deep into the fairgrounds away from where Bo was waiting. Buzz chases after Forky but loses track of him as he jabs himself into a half eaten elephant ear on the ground that gets promptly picked up by a trashman and into a trashbin. Buzz attempts to climb the bin but is too late and sees a game operator coming his way to throw away a hot dog wrapper, forcing him to drop dead. The owner sees him on the ground and mistakes him for a new shipment of prize toys to be hung onto the rack (Because his stall is named "Star Adventurer" and is a space themed water gun shooting game.. Behind them in a different stall you can see the shadowy figures of Ducky and Bunny conversing about seeing a Buzz Lightyear in the wild and getting upset that one would try to take their prize spot. They then decide to introduce themselves to Buzz as they accuse him of stealing their spot, but Buzz desperately tries to explain his situation. They don't believe him so they start heckling him much to his frustration. Slinky, Mr Potato Head and Rex, who were the lookouts for Forky, see all of this play out and rush back to Woody to tell them about Buzz and Forky, having not been able to do anything about the trash bin. Woody and Bo come up with a new "Operation" to save Buzz that involves purposely luring Bonnie over to the game stall in order for her to win Buzz Lightyear back, since she will recognize that its her toy, but they NEED Forky for it to work at all. So they head off to the bin that Forky was thrown in, praying that he hasnt been thrown away again or drowned in tons of trash. Bo effortlessly climbs the trashbin with her Sheperd hook (which the bin is the plastic criss cross caged kind) and rummages through some wrappers to find Forky contently still jabbed into the elephant ear, but notices Bo as a savior with light emanating from her body in the sunlight. Bo yanks him out like a sword and holds him up like one like as if it was the Sword of Arthur. Forky is visibly confused and begins to panic again, but Bo restrains him wondering what his problem is. The next plan involves getting a roll of string from a sewing machine in the Antiques store because they plan on tying Forky to one end and pulling on him from another end away from sight, mirroring "Operation Pulltoy" from the start of the film and using him as bait to lure Bonnie to Buzz's stall. Here they meet Tiny Tim, a small train conductor toy that was the voice from the night before telling Bo to come back inside. He turns out to be Bo's best friend and the leader of all the antiques in the store.

  11. Every year annually they let some toys out to go into the carnival and enjoy themselves with the games left behind for prepping the following day, but they must follow a curfew that Tim warns about. Tim helps the toys out by orchestrating a group of antiques to gather a roll of string by bringing down a sewing machine from a shelf, dismantling it and transporting it via a model locomotive train on some tracks to them. They begin Operation Pulltoy when Rex notices Bonnie heading their way, and they throw Forky out like bait (By this point in the story Tim decides to shirk hisnduties and tag along with Bo on her shoulder, curious about what shes been up to). The string is too thin to see so it looks like the wind is randomly pushing Forky away. It works and Bonnie starts to chase Forky until she finally grabs him and snaps the string off unknowingly, and sees the Star Adventurer stall because a man calls out to her (Like how some operators yell at passerby trying to advertise their game and convince people to play it).

  13. The plan seems to have worked, and Ducky and Bunny see all of thus unfold. Feeling remorseful for not having trusted Buzz earlier on, they decide to help him out by rigging the game in Bonnie's favor by messing with the game's controls underneath through a panel after Buzz tells him Bonnie is his owner. The rigging works and Bonnie manages to win first place and gets to choose from the top row rack, which consists of Buzz and 3 other Toys.

  15. This is where things start to go downhill as a turning point in the movie in a shocking twist where Bonnie sees Buzz, but decides to pass on him instead for a giant plushie toy. Buzz, Bo and Woody are in absolute shock and the toys, having had their owner fail to recognize them and have their plan all for naught, begins to place doubt in them about their owner. Ducky and Bunny start complaining to Buzz about why he hasnt been won yet, and Buzz is too shellshocked to give them an answer. Bunny and Ducky go back down and introduces themselves to Woody and co., and agree to untie Buzz back down after the carnival visitors disperses for the night to avoid being seen, although they also begin to joke around about their circumstances. However that is the same night Bonnie leaves on the RV to continue her trip. Feeling betrayed by Bonnie's lack of care and regard for her own toys, as well as feeling uneasy about the prospect of her forcefully bringing a spork to life against his will and having him cause all of the troubles they've had so far, they decide to abandon Bonnie in favor of saving Buzz instead. Woody however does not give up about Bonnie, much like he did with Andy, and also wanted Bo to join them again. Bo then solemnly explains her real decision to leave Andy's house having come to the conclusion that a toy's life is much bigger and more free if they are not beholden to owners. Forky overhears everything and suddenly has a change of heart, realizing that what she says takes some weight off his shoulders. He asks Bo and Tim if this "freedom" means being anything he wants to be, including being just a spork, as he had always been adamantly proclaiming from the moment he was made. Tim reassures him about his feelings and having seen the carnival tour fail, offers him a tour of HIS antiques store instead to show that not all toys are considered "playthings" (He also refers to other toys other than Bo as mere "playthings" offhandedly). Woody starts to argue with Tim saying that they are all Bonnie's toys and that they have an obligation to be there for their owner even if they stop caring about them, pointing out how Andy had abandoned them for so long during the events leading up to TS3.
  16.
  17. Tim motions to Bo and tells her that this reminds him of what Bo told him before, how their previous owners decided to ignore them. Bo disagrees with Woody and the 2 reach an impasse. The other toys decide to go off with Bo, Forky and Tim to the store leaving Woody behind with Ducky and Bunny. They both try to break the air of suspense joking about how heated that all got and start to tease Woody for being such an idealist. Woody starts to mope arounf and ignore their heckling as he goes to the same balloon stall from earlier to start throwing darts at balloons dejectedly, having realized the RV had left throughout the whole commotion. He believes that Bonnie will notice them missing and return to look for them and gather them up again, but Ducky and Bunny are not so sure about that. They start to explain that they never wanted to be won, and make it a sort of "contest" between the two on how many times any of them gets chosen, with Bunny having a slight lead over Ducky. They always escape their new owner's grasps to return back to their stall and begin the games anew. Woody is mortified at how callously these 2 toys treat the sanctimonious process of owner and tot being reduced to a mere game and clambers up a tree to wait things out, having a vantage point of the RV camping site.
