Present day
Sheep are disappearing and random homes are getting torched
seems like a dragon moved in recently
order won’t spare a paladin for your little hamlet, and the local lord is being a lazy prick
the villagers have to choose someone to go up to its lair and deal with it
they choose you, mainly because you have the easiest access to armor and weapons
equip whatever Dad has lying around
leather gloves, a great helm, matching leather boots, a surcoat, and a bunch of chainmail to go under it; not the greatest armor
at least you have a nice heater shield and sword
not really sure what you’re doing, but somebody’s gotta take action
reach the mountain cave that one of the shepherds saw it come out of

<“And move this entire hoard I’ve got going? Fat chance!”
well, it looks like diplomacy is out of the question
Not sure what’s gonna happen after you escalate things, but there’s nothing to do but roll the dice

Dragon suddenly looks incredibly amused
chuckles a little

She gets off of the gold pile and starts hovering in the air

Okay, so you have to beat a dragon-girl
time to analyze your opponent
obviously she can fly
but since she’s staying grounded, try a frontal charge
you charge forward with your shield and slam into her like she’s a brick wall
swing your sword down at her, she catches your arm like a falling leaf
At this point you realize she has a massive strength advantage
and she currently has you in grappling range to use it

jab the edge of your shield into her chin in split-second panic
this gets a response, she lets go of your arm in surprise
jump back away from her
okay, time to rethink your strategy
strength is no contest in her favor, you won’t force her back if she advances
try speed maybe?
some quick thrusts to her more vulnerable areas might work
raise shield again, edge closer to her
when you’re in thrusting distance, start making quick jabs at her midsection
Dragon suddenly starts dodging with reasonable speed
doesn’t seem too out of your ability though
line up a solid thrust right to her stomach
just as you stab, she flaps her wings and almost instantly flies to the other side of the cave
shit, that was way too fast. she’s like an Eagle, but pretty
Well, she’s got speed and strength on you, what else can you try?
no more time to think about that, Dragon-girl is pressing the attack
starts using her wings to propel herself around the cave at ground level
it’s taking all of your concentration just to meet each claw swipe with your shield
and that shield is getting increasingly worn down with each hit
you don’t know how much longer you can do this
she starts talking as this continues
<“I’m moderately impressed, boy! You’ve kept up surprisingly well for a mere peasant. You even almost bloodied my nose with that shield bash.”
she sounds amused and slightly teasing in her tone
you’re not sure how to feel about that, but you err on the side of moderate fear
as she says this, it gets harder and harder to track where her voice is coming from, on account of her speed
<“Oh yes, you’re going to be fun~”
you located that one perfectly
she’s right behind you
you lash backward faster than you ever thought you could
slam your sword right into her ribcage…
…and your sword breaks
Shit, so couldn’t hurt her anyway?
<“I actually did feel that, if you’re wondering. But it’s time to end this game.”
as she opens her mouth and you see sparks begin to form, you start to consider that you probably never had a chance
raise your torn shield in front of you to block what you can to block the flames
the impact knocks you into the wall, dazing you slightly
your shield barely even exists anymore, reduced to the frame alone
this is to say nothing of the rest of your armor, of which only your helmet remains intact
and that got knocked off by the cave wall
miraculously, you appear mostly unharmed
severely exhausted and dazed, but all your limbs are attached and unburned, so we’ll call it a win
Dragon-girl starts advancing menacingly
she’s also sashaying her hips, so you’re kind of getting mixed messages here
<“well that was a nice warmup, but now you’re right where I want you: on the ground and defenseless”
she licks her lips at this statement
“Uuuh, w-what exactly is your plan?”
<“Oh, I have a lot planned for you, my little would-be dragon slayer, but first I need to intro…duce…myself”
her eyes widen and her face goes pale as she fails to finish her sentence
you follow her gaze down to your right hand
covered in soot, like a lot of the rest of you, but she seems fixated on the scar
<“Y-your hand…did…I do that? Did I burn you?!”
tears begin to form in her eyes
You’re rather startled by the sudden mood change and seeing a crying woman triggers your protective instinct
“Hey, hey, calm down, it’s just a-“
you stop yourself
for whatever reason, the thought of her having burned you horrifies her
whatever plans she had for you before, this hard of a reaction will likely throw them out the window
she might even be distracted enough for you to get away
you can use this
“I-I, well, I can’t feel anything, but, uh, that’s probably just shock!”
“Yeah! It’s gonna take a bit for me to come down and start feeling it.”
Nailed it
But the expression on her face makes you feel like dirt as she begins to lose all composure
she suddenly grabs you in a bear hug and picks you up, sobbing and smothering you all the while
<“I’M SO SORRY I DIDN’T MEAN TO HURT YOU I DIDN’T KNOW THAT WOULD HAPPEN AGHUHUHUUUuuuu”
God Damn, you feel like shit now
“H-hey, it’s not that bad. I can just go to the village doctor and he can patch me up just fine-“
she suddenly looks up at you with determination in her eyes
<“Like hell he can! Human medicine isn’t going to fix that! I’m the one who did this do you, and I’m gonna be the one to fix it! From here on out, you’re staying here in my cave while I get you the finest mamono healing Magics that gold can buy!”
“W-well if you think that’s best”

So it looks like you’re going to spend an indeterminate amount of time living in a cave with a dragon who wants to play doctor to fix an injury that doesn’t actually exist
