  1. Q: What is No Levels Early?
  2. A: This is the medium length category of DK64 speedruns. This category requires you to beat the game as fast as possible without going into any levels early. It is comparable to Ocarina of Time's All Dungeons run and Super Mario 64's 70 star run.

  4. Q: What is the WR?
  5. A: 2:06:21 by Kiwikiller67
  6.
  7. Q: Why are you using the Wii U VC version?
  8. A: Wii U VC is around 6-7 minutes faster overall compared to the fastest N64 route (9-10 minutes faster if this route was done on N64).
  9.
  10. Q: What controller are you using?
  11. A: I'm using a Gamecube controller. I'm able to use one because of this adapter: http://www.raphnet-tech.com/products/gcn64_to_wiimote/index.php
  12.
  13. Q: What glitches are banned?
  14. A: You cannot glitch past the B Lockers (which means you need to get 100 golden bananas throughout the run), you cannot glitch into level lobbies (which means you need to get the boss keys), and you cannot duplicate golden bananas.
  15.
  16. Q: What is all the menu stuff at the beginning?
  17. A: An Intro Story Glitch (ISG) called "Main Menu Moves" (MMM).
  18.
  19. Q: What does MMM do?
  20. A: Basically this memory exploitation glitch allows me to get all Cranky upgrades, all instruments from Candy and all guns from Funky without having to buy them in game. As a bonus, because I have to wait for the entire Intro Story cutscene to play in order for the glitch to work, I can pre-watch all the boss cutscenes beforehand. The penalties for using this glitch is that the game no longer saves, I cannot pause exit, and I do not take any damage (meaning I cannot die unless I fall into an insta-death zone).
  21.
  22. Q: But didn't you skip the boss room door?
  23. A: The boss isn't a separate level.
  24.
  25. Q: How did you clip into the stairs?
  26. A: There is a very thin, pixel-thick plane I can fall through on some ledges in the game. By using C-Up to buffer my movement, I can find this plane relatively quickly.
  27.
  28. Q: How are you getting into all these walls? I thought Wii U VC patched that?
  29. A: In the N64 version, you could generate lag to make your character faster (in relation to the game) to assist with wall clipping. In this version, there is very little lag so lag-assisted wall clips aren't generally done anymore. Still, sloped walls are poorly programmed, so its still easy to clip through them. When I'm underwater, I use a trick called Swim Through Vertical Walls. By simply pushing C-Up, I can swim through any wall that faces an arbitrary direction on any map with water (the reason why the direction it works on is unknown). Finally, I can do a trick called skew walk, which rotates the character model to a side that has no hit detection, which allows me to pass through nearly any wall.

  31. Q: I want to learn this! Is there a route I can see?
  32. A: http://bombch.us/CI19
  33. This document has all No Levels Early beginner, intermediate and advanced route resources for both N64 and Virtual Console players.
