  9. ----------------------------------------------
  10.
  11. Priest of the Nine:
  12. Helpful
  13. Merciful
  14. 30-45 years old
  15. Found in Arnima Temple, willing to help the town out of its rut in any way he can. Arnima temple retrofitted to act as a hospital. Has knowledge on most things that happened in the reach. Well read.
  16.
  17.
  18. ---------------------------------------
  19. {Anything else Priest?}
  20.
  21.
  22. Glad to see you're still willing to help - and there's always much to do around here.
  23.
  24. Though if you're looking for a journey like the one you've just returned from, then I'll have to disappoint.
  25.
  26. {Whatever helps}
  27.
  28. I wont have you cleaning this hall, so worry not. I have a more pressing need for a newcomer like yourself...
  29.
  30. Our lord; Mortifayne has been scheduled to meet with an Advisor from the Divide. Merosa dares not attend herself lest our lord brings out her worst.
  31.
  32. So this small conference will be our opportunity to mount pressure on Mortifayne, such that he'll forgo his tyranny for a moment - bringing even further opportunity for reform.
  33.
  34. And with a fresh face like yours, Mortifayne should understand that a world outside this town still exists - and that world is passing judgement on his actions.
  35.
  36. {Ok, I'll be there}
  37.
  38. You're becoming a great friend to the people here, and I've come to trust you myself.
  39.
  40. A final word of advice, should mortifayne become enraged, don't interrupt him. In fact I advise remaining quiet entirely - I only need your presence.
  41.
  42. I'll meet you there.
  43.
  44. {What is happening?}
  45.
  46. Exactly what I expected, an attempt to squeeze blood from stone. Mortifayne, in all his "wisdom" has deemed it fit to sever ties with our neighbors. Now we wait for Merosa's response...
  47.
  48. And be assured, it will not be pretty. All these years and our lord has become even more bitter...
  49.
  50. He'll never forget what happened all those years ago, was it her death? Or is it the state of this town? Both?
  51.
  52. {what happened "all those years ago"?}
  53.
  54. When death had breached our walls. Hunger and fear was what gripped the people in that dreadful siege, the very orcs that harass this town now were responsible for our lord's current state.
  55.
  56. Worst of all, that siege had claimed his wife - yet that isn't a detail I'll divulge, the lord has put many to the axe for ever uttering her name.
  57.
  58.
  59. {Maybe it would be good to have Evermore step in?}
  60.
  61. Quiet! Have the sense not to call for such sabotage while we're watched. Hmmm, though your proposition brings another idea.
  62.
  63. Rumors have stirred about an important individual, a descendant of Mados. And from what we know, he resides not too far from the kingdom's capitol.
  64.
  65. The hamlet nestled to the west of us, called Tebandra.
  66.
  67. {And how is this important?}
  68.
  69. Image my friend - the armor we've maintained from Mados's fatal excursion still shows its majestic craft after all these years.
  70.
  71. Yes, any can wield the armor, but none can trigger the runes marked in its metal - and we're sure the very trigger is blood. You see where this is leading?
  72.
  73. {Yes, you need him to become his grandfather I take it}
  74.
  75. None can measure to Mados, but it shouldn't stop those with the potential from trying. The person you seek goes by Rados, reportedly a large fellow, comes with being a blacksmith no doubt.
  76.
  77. Some have also said the armor carries the will of Mara within it too, although I question the integrity of those claims.
  78.
  79. {I will seek him out then.}
  80.
  81. Evermore is a very welcome change of tone from the dreary scenery here, been a long while since I've made the journey there myself. Hope you don't get too comfortable upon those lush knolls though.
  82.
  83. We're pressed with an urgent concern, a gathering of witchmen to the north are engaged in some communion. Nothing before has been quite like it.
  84.
  85. And if whatever they conjure comes marching down the valley, then we'll need all our allies.
  86.
  87.
  88.
  89. {I will have to decline for the time being.}
  90.
  91. You've come this far, surely you're keen to see this town prosper? Maybe I was mistaken in my judgement. Please return quickly if you have a change of heart.
  92.
  93. [Priest attends meeting between his tyrannical lord and an advisor from neighboring town]
  94.
  95. Please Mortifayne, consider what you're saying.
  96.
  97. Yes, I am sorry, my lord.
  98.
  99. [Priest talks with other knights, after having survived an invasion from Oblivion on his town]
  100.
  101. How many are left? What's the damage?... Forgive me, the body still trembles.
  102.
  103. It wasn't I who sealed that rift, it was our friends here. Our fate was in the hands of people who came to this town through chance.
  104.
  105. Their selflessness for such a hopeless people is more than any words of mine can describe.
  106.
  107. Becoming a knight so quickly is a great boon for anyone, and I don't think I've ever seen someone attain such a privilege without being conscripted.
  108.
  109. But it is the least you should be compensated for, the toll of that realm on all our minds was great. I'm sure the nine were watching over us there.
  110.
  111. You should head to the kings palace and receive the fruit for your feat, I'm sure he has plans for this town, seeing as Mortifayne has vanished.
  112.
  113. {The missionary and I have retrieved another one of Mados's garments. }
  114.
  115. So he finally made the expedition, was raving about it for quite some time. Did you find our elusive thief?
  116.
  117. {I'm not sure, I had to traverse a Daedric realm and had met some strange entity who stood next to the gauntlets}
  118.
  119. Daedra? Within a Dwemer ruin, unheard of! How did you manage to find yourself within such a terrible place?
  120.
  121. {We were required to open passage to it, the missionary traced the item back to an Obvlivion gate within the ruin...}
  122.
  123. So you assumed that the gauntlets must have left through that gate... I see. The presence of these gauntlets within such a remote ruin should have been reason enough to amplify concern.
  124.
  125. Yet now daedra have been brought into the fold, are we but unwitting pawns in some grander scheme?
  126.
  127. I'll have to ruminate on these revelations later, and you should rest. Couldn't imagine what a journey to that untamed north entailed.
  128.
  129. Thank you friend, it's rare for a helping hand to go further than one needs to.
  130.
  131.
  132.
  133. {How do you fare priest?}
  134.
  135. Well enough. Got my health at least, though It can always be better.
  136.
  137. {You look troubled by something...}
  138.
  139. Oh I wish for the day when I wasn't, But no, this isn't the look of mere distress...
  140.
  141. It's also of curiosity. You see, we've recently suffered a string of thefts within this very temple. And I've no Idea why, it's not like our coffers are being emptied.
  142.
  143. The thief seems to take an interest in particular relics.
  144.
  145. {Maybe it's selling them instead?}
  146.
  147. We'd have gotten wind of such valuables circulating the markets if that were the case, not many deal in rusted jewellery round here. Couple that with the frequency means our suspect couldn't have gone far.
  148.
  149. We've requested the guard to help in this minor crisis, they've been generous enough to spare some eyes to watch over the temple during our absence.
  150.
  151. But nothing, neither beggar nor vagrant has appeared. So failing that, our temple's missionary; Reamon (raymond) has taken up the pursuit. He's quite the progidy in alteration.
  152.
  153. One such exercise he's mastered are the great searches, scouring the land through projected, arcane vision. And while using his peculiar skills to search for our most recently vanished item, he found it.
  154.
  155. {And I'm guessing you wont me involved in this quest?}
  156.
  157. I'm not the kind that forces one to carry out my bidding, but if your curiosity shares the same desire as mine. Then maybe we can also share in this mystery's unraveling.
  158.
  159. {I'll take a crack at it.}
  160.
  161. I knew you were the daring type, the posture always gives it away.
  162.
  163. Right, key detail I've mistakenly omitted - you're searching for a specific ring, down in the dungeons of Grey Belmor.
  164.
  165. If you're not sure where that warped ruin is, then take a step outside the southern gate and turn your eyes to that ugly stretch of scenery just beyond the river.
  166.
  167. We've the faintest Idea of what dwells there other than what's seen treading the surface, so I advise great caution. I'll beg Mara's ear for your safe return.
  168.
  169. {You'll have to find another fool.}
  170.
  171. It was merely a fleeting concern, I understand that you're averse to danger. Return if you reconsider.
  172.
  173. {I've returned, and with your shiny jewel in possession.}
  174.
  175. Let's see, yes the very same engravings. Even the rune matches - certainly not a forgery. Forgive the doubt, many a swindler have tried to fool us with cheap imitation.
  176.
  177. Our bygone hero should never be without his possessions - I'm sure Mados is smiling upon you.
  178.
  179. {I was also pursued by some blood drenched demon, it was nigh invincible}
  180.
  181. Not of the same damned souls that haunt the exterior?
  182.
  183. {No, this one was tangible, and much more sinister}
  184.
  185. Oh my, sounds like you went through quite the ordeal to get this ring. I can't recall this creature from my research, could the ruin be attracting evil from beyond its walls?
  186.
  187. Like minds tend to find each other, hmmmmm, I'll note down your encounter. Should be a warning for any other budding adventurer. Let's hope that whatever confines those creatures maintains its hold.
  188.
  189. Lastly, compensation. To spend on whatever carnal desire. Farewell.
  190.
  191.
  192.
  193. {Jackos told me to reach you. Do you suspect that Namira is behind all this?}
  194.
  195. We're not certain on which prince is involved, but we're certain that the involvement exists. Now we've but to suss out which god schemes against us.
  196.
  197. With nothing more than circumstantial evidence, which may well fill this hall if it were written - we are most probably dealing with that dark mistress.
  198.
  199. There aren't many candidates that betray her influence among those pagan tribes, Namira shows herself most through those Hagravens. I'm sure you've encountered them since your recent battle north?
  200.
  201. {Yeah, what's the significance of them?}
  202.
  203. They're the very agents who summon the most wretched creatures into our world, undoubtedly responsible for that winged terror you slew with Jackos.
  204.
  205. Their arts don't only pertain to summoning, if only we were so fortunate - they transpose humanity with beast and turn many of their kin into warped hybrids.
  206.
  207. Cunning of man, ferocity of wolves - with all the beauty of their creators.
  208.
  209. I must also ask you something, please refrain from sharing the information you're about to hear with anyone else.
  210.
  211. {Of course, your words are safe with me. }
  212.
  213. When you departed to that den all those days ago, in pursuit of the lord's amulet. Did you feel anything strange emanating from it? Were there any markings on the item?
  214.
  215. {Yes, an inscription, "May your stomach never sour" from what I can recall...}
  216.
  217. Stendarr protect us, I hope this is a coincidence and nothing more.
  218.
  219. It's all weaving together now, a clear tapestry - none of it was random. I must demand silence from you on this matter, lest we summon the blackest reaction from our lord.
  220.
  221. As Mortifayne may be responsible for our interactions with the Witchmen, we've now enough reason to believe that he's in concert with Namira.
  222.
  223. We shant talk further, we'll only waste time and the threat of treason. We'll need to be swift and take action.
  224.
  225.
  226. {What do you need me to do?}
  227.
  228.
  229. Convene with the Arch Priest of Evermore, he can be found within the temple there. We must hurry, as our king has sent forth men to oust Mortifayne in response to this recent chaos.
  230.
  231. Merosa will most likely join this entourage, which will make things all the messier.
  232.
  233. Gods, spare us fortune in these times.
  234.
  235.
  236. {What will happen to the Reach now?}
  237.
  238. We've lost two governing bodies in the space of a day, if news of this tragedy goes beyond this land, we'll become prey.
  239.
  240. The King surely shares this fear too, he's probably deliberated on replacements for our recently departed.
  241.
  242. We'll have to maintain composure, fear nor despair can be shown outside these walls. Any prying eyes will see our weakness as opportunity.
  243.
  244. There is also the dead to contend with, we'll have to spare the next few days for burials. Pray that our foes can cease with their ruinous wants these coming weeks.
  245.
  246. {Where is Jackos?}
  247.
  248. Upon your capture of that stone, we were torn from the shores of that red realm. Daedra and other foul spawn clawed at us, desperate to keep us.
  249.
  250. I managed to escape their foul grasp as the rift closed in on us, cutting the tendrils that grasped us. I saw that Jackos was fairing worse than I.
  251.
  252. I happened to free myself of their grabbing tendrils, with the rift sealing behind us. Yet just before it closed I had seen Jackos struggling immensely.
  253.
  254. I'm not sure if he made it through, or if those dreaded things pulled him back into their pestilent embrace.
  255.
  256. I pray that he found another exit, that he landed somewhere on Nirn, in some distant land - to find his way back to us.
  257.
  258. To have that world your prison is an unimaginable fate. The god's aren't cruel enough to dispense such twisted punishment on a paragon as he.
  259.
  260. Regardless, I will have to inform his family of his absence. First violence, then grief - all that makes the reach.
  261.
  262. [Scene where Priest tells you to escape Arnima through Namira's Portal}
  263.
  264. Steer yourself, we must follow what we were taught. Our only hope of saving this town is through that gate!
  265.
  266. Run for the center of town! Head through that portal! Grab the stone, we've no other choice!
  267.
  268. Find the tower, then the stone! I and the others will follow!
  269.
  270. [Scene where Priest witness argument between two lords]
  271.
  272. Pardon our lord, a last minute detail within the manor... He'll be with us shortly.
  273.
  274. To who, my lord? {Prying question}
  275.
  276. Nine lock my heart.... the skies...
  277.
  278. {Those hanging outside the temple, what were they executed for?}
  279.
  280. Take a guess.
  281.
  282. {They upset the lord?}
  283.
  284. "Treason", so yes, they upset the lord. Though that doesn't take much these days.
  285.
  286. As with everyone Mortifayne accuses in his ravenous, paranoid streaks - that are becoming exponentially more common. The guard was seen speaking to one of the beggars, with the other two seen mingling close by.
  287.
  288. That was reason enough to raise suspicion, and thus they were all hanged almost an hour after they were accused.
  289.
  290. {Why haven't the people ousted him yet?}
  291.
  292. If only it were that easy, you must realize that it's not only him we have to worry about - but the guard. They're almost as intolerant as our "strict, but fair" lord.
  293.
  294. It doesn't help that they feel their actions justified from the dangers beyond the walls, it's become such a vicious cycle that I can't fathom this ending well.
  295.
  296. Keep quiet about the grievances you may have, it will do us no good if any more decent people find themselves victim to his tyranny.
  297.
  298.
  299. {How do you cope with the suffering here?}
  300.
  301. I would love to tell you that faith alone keeps me going, but this goes further than appeasing the gods, only those with black hearts could look the other way.
  302.
  303. So I stay and do the best I can, a little alchemist corner set up in our temple to serve brew, potions and other relief - to letting the injured rest within the grace of their gods.
  304.
  305. {I'm guessing you don't travel much beyond these walls then?}
  306.
  307. Unfortonately no, I rely on the missionary to do that for me. Vicariously living through his exploits unburdens my mind for a while, anything to stop thinking about the reality here.
  308.
  309.
  310. {I came across an ominous ruin deep beneath the earth on my travels. The architecture was Elven in design. Know anything about it?}
  311.
  312.
  313. You most likely came across remnants of Direnni civilization, a wonder to modern architects and laborers alike that their structures still hold, after all these years.
  314.
  315. Even the marble still shines, not having succumbed to the ruinous elements that erodes our walls every so often. How did it feel? Was the air strangely fresh?
  316.
  317. {No, a pungent stench of decay and blood was what greeted me there. Disembodied crying and spiteful geists also had a presence there.}
  318.
  319. How bizarre, that's not characteristic of the Direnni at all..... Wait, yes..... Not direnni at all, but Ayleid.
  320.
  321. The Ayleid embassy built by those Direnni all those millennia ago.
  322.
  323. {Direnni? Ayleids? I'm not so familiar with these peoples. What are their relations?}
  324.
  325. You've heard of the Allesian empire surely? And their revolt against the Ayleids of old Cyrodil, ages before the Empire came to be.
  326.
  327. {Enough.}
  328.
  329. Then I needn't bore you with yet another recital; that slave revolt, having swept over large swathes of Cyrodiil had then turned their gaze west to the Direnni Hegemony, now High Rock.
  330.
  331. Desperate and engulfed in panic, the Direnni pooled whoever they could from what remained of the Ayleid. One prominent figure, with the moniker of the "Last King"; Dynar by name - who had followed that fleeing diaspora.
  332.
  333. Some accounts said he was in exile, despondent to the suffering of his Ayleid kin and had only wanted to join the Direnni cause to indulge in the slaughter.
  334.
  335. The Direnni built his stalwart stronghold at the the very interstice of the warring forces - and that Last King couldn't have been happier.
  336.
  337.
  338. {So these Elves were allied? What came of this situation?}
  339.
  340. A very desperate alliance to speak the truth, in no other situation would that vile King interact with an outsider, let alone send aid for his kin.
  341.
  342. When the first allesians stepped into his periphery, the nightmare was unleashed, the reach had turned into some damned oblivion-scape that would send any timid soul running to the other end of Tamriel.
  343.
  344. And so did many of the allesians - though the accounts made exceptions for the Nords among them, who even in the face of ultimate terror, had traversed the dark realm, right to the doorstep of that King's squalid hovel.
  345.
  346. Losing many through hideous traps, terrific rituals and the sadistic Ayleid subordinates who relished in those spiteful skirmishes.
  347.
  348. {This "Last King" was defeated, no?}
  349.
  350. That's what the tomes show, though such a being that was surely the product of daedric consort, could have just faded into the arms of whatever prince he knelt to.
  351.
  352. When they did breach the inner sanctum, scholars had talked of the interior being a patchwork of human bodies, stitched together from one end of the giant hall to the other.
  353.
  354. The king and his debauched Ayleid underlings were seemingly unphased about the assailants at the gate, still immersed in their profaned work - this allowed those forlorn Nords to approach.
  355.
  356. Upon realizing that his artistry was meddled with, he recoiled and flayed those unfortunate souls who made their advance, almost in an instant. Then came the cacophony of screams, killing those further back immediately after.
  357.
  358. {Sounds like an impossible ordeal, how was he "Killed" then?}
  359.
  360. When it proved futile that mere men weren't up to the task, Allesia had called upon a friend - all evidence and descriptions of this person pointed to one candidate: Pelinial.
  361.
  362. Those scribes of the time spoke of him entering the sanctum and having the gate sealed behind. What followed was a cosmic clash of noise and magic reverberations that had shaken rock and stone, where even the very ground seemed to sink into the depths.
  363.
  364. People had fled, tension gripped those who thought Pelinial had fallen. Yet among the rubble, that metal-clad hand had erupted from the heap.
  365.
  366. So the filthy king of spite was no more, and the allesians continued their march west.
  367.
  368. {The Reach seems to host many horrific, yet engaging stories.}
  369.
  370. Not often do the clouds part and we have a simple tale which can be spun to the young. If you're looking for such stories, then Evermore and those lands further west will be your calling.
  371.
  372. Though looking at you, such light-hearted tales would quickly grow to bore.
  373.
  374. {Does the curse at Belmor pose a threat to this town?}
  375.
  376. As apparent as the danger may appear, the omens who've made that cursed land their home haven't strayed a feet from their dark domicile.
  377.
  378. Seems those souls are still trapped in that terrible siege 30 years ago. Even the scholars from Daggerfall were awestruck at the phenomenon, assuring us that these undead are confined upon the pocked dirt from whence they fell.
  379.
  380. {And no one has sought to lift this curse?}
  381.
  382. If it were so easy, then we wouldn't be having this conversation. Whatever solution that could alleviate this scourge vanished with the shamans who performed the ritual.
  383.
  384. {So, we just find a shaman and get her to tell us about the curse. }
  385.
  386. Talking like a true native... those guards had done exactly that when the siege was lifted.
  387.
  388. Suffice to say, nothing was achieved except dozens of flayed shamans draping our walls. Just reminiscing on that sight can make one's stomach churn.
  389.
  390.
  391. {I'm here to take the children on behalf of Evermore.}
  392.
  393. I was wary of who they would be sending, but I've seen you stalwart in the face of the corruption that gripped this town - you're someone I can readily trust.
  394.
  395. The King has taken a liking to you as well, if he's this confident with your competence.
  396.
  397. I hope the kids don't cause too much hassle, they've grown restless from being homebound these last few months. No child should be confined within these dreary abodes for so long. I'll pray for your safe arrival at the city.
  398.
  399. [Scene where Prince Damian and group (You and prince included) set off to rid the land of a curse]
  400.
  401. Knight, I'll be pre-occupied while I incite the words that can dispel whatever cursed barrier lays over that ancient well. When there's an opening, you'll need to fire this staff at the construct.
  402.
  403. {Simple enough, you can count on me.}
  404.
  405. That's why I trust you with this task - may seem a tad patronizing, considering what you've achieved since you've arrived in this realm. I'm glad to have you by our side.
  406.
  407. {No need Priest, I've already got a staff just like that one.}
  408.
  409. Oh my, an original! Those are very priceless relics knight, I would otherwise beg you to tell me where you found it.
  410.
  411. But we're in a hurry, and we need you with us across this haunted field - yours is the only mind that's unsullied by the dark past of this mire.
  412.
  413. Prince, you have to be careful - the kingdom cannot lose any more royal blood.
  414.
  415. Damian, you are the first of your kind to get right into the mud with us lowly souls. I can recall no royal dirtying himself for those beneath, we are forever in your debt.
  416.
  417. By Julianos' majesty, bless this venture.
  418.
  419. What on Nirn?
  420.
  421. Ha.... It actually worked. The gods have finally divined their mercy.
  422.
  423. [Scene where Priest approaches you while you're in the town]
  424.
  425. Knight, forgive the interruption, but I need your attention within the temple.
  426.
  427. {Could this not wait?}
  428.
  429. Trust me, you'll thank me for being so impatient. Please, within the temple.
  430.
  431. It's about what the missionary saw when he scoured that damned facility in the mountains, or rather what he's seen now that made him evoke such dread.
  432.
  433. {Slow down, explain what's happened, clearly}
  434.
  435. The prince: Damian, had entered the temple to greet us, almost immediately did the missionary become capricious. I thought it was fatigue from the exercise but he was extremely pallid. I've never seen such a drastic turn of health so quickly.
  436.
  437. {Where is the missionary now? }
  438.
  439. I've sent him off to the Divide where Fenig - the town's priest - will look after him. He is young and the events that transpired here have probably overwhelmed him.
  440.
  441. {Should I confront Damian then? Or do you have other plans.}
  442.
  443. Every fibre of my being begs you not to pursue this cause, but this spurious revival of the town irks me. If the missionary's suspicions were true and we did nothing, I would not be able to live with myself.
  444.
  445. I'm sure it's nothing, I pray it's nothing - just a case of fever.
  446.
  447. {What exactly made the missionary so spooked? What did he say?}
  448.
  449. As you already know, these alteration exercises the missionary undertakes are extensive - so much so that the senses become incredibly sensitive and highly attuned.
  450.
  451. If whatever, or whoever, comes within close proximity during, or immediately after - such as a day or two beyond the ritual - then a terrific psychic backlash can occur.
  452.
  453. Which is what I think occurred here - coincidentally, the last item he traced was provided by you. I wont draw conclusions as I cherish the welfare of the kingdom too much.
  454.
  455. Yet I tell you of this because I know you are of the scrupulous sort - so assuage this malaise and pray that the prince is not implicated in these affairs.
  456.
  457. {Fret not, I will be reserved when dealing with him.}
  458.
  459. Your arrival here has been a miracle, thank you Knight. Were it not for you, we would all be suffering a fate worse than any could fathom.
  460.
  461. {Priest, why are you with this Orc?}
  462.
  463. A delight seeing you here too knight, and as for him - well you should know I've always been a pacifist, or yet I aim to be. I saw that this Orc's arrest would only engender further retaliation from his kin.
  464.
  465. Yet eminently more important - his purpose had resonated with me deeply, I will ensure that he manages to spread his ethos of peace throughout the land.
  466.
  467. So when I coerced the guard to release him, and the chance had arisen to escort him back to Daggerfall, I jumped at the opportunity and here I am.
  468.
  469. Been a very long time since I've been away from the Reach, I forgot how serene the land here is, such scenery will anchor a man like me, who knew only an unforgiving swamp.
  470.
  471. Oh and before you think I've turned indolent and have abandoned Raven Spring, the Archbishop has taken over the temple for the time being - seeing as the Pantheon in Evermore can manage itself with a skeleton crew of pilgrims.
  472.
  473. {Priest, I have to see your Orc. Damian, the prince, has ordered his death.}
  474.
  475. What? Why? What would this senseless act of spite achieve? Knight, you are better than this - surely you see how ruinous it would be to harm him.
  476.
  477. {Move priest! I will not disobey royalty - he has also ordered me to kill anyone who was found near him. I will give you a chance now and say you escaped. Run.}
  478.
  479. Knight, you're deranged - I will not shirk the opportunity to resolve this insanity. I will not have another Grey Belmor! Knight, you force me into a despicable quandary...
  480.
  481. {I'm sorry priest, I have to do this, now you will feel the weight of your naivety. [Attack]}
  482.
  483. Yes I am naive, naive to believe a cold-blooded mercenary could be anything more.
  484.
  485. {What can I do? I can't return to them having failed their order, Damian is uncompromising and has surrounded himself with sociopaths.}
  486.
  487. You are strong Knight - you have faced much worse, yet I implore you, do not return to him with sword in hand. Think of the kingdom, and hope for forgiveness.
  488.
  489. With this news, I will have to return for Raven Spring, hopefully eschewing suspicion - Damnation, I had wanted to see majestic Daggerfall ever since I was a youngun.
  490.
  491. Seems we may need to counsel another mad tyrant - I was a fool to think Mortifayne would be the last. I'll pray that this order from the prince is a one off, though him tasking you to kill those who accompanied the Orc...
  492.
  493. ...It's quite telling - Go knight, make the prince see reason, I will continue helping the inhabitants of Raven Spring. I'll need to alleviate the Archbishop of his duties there.
  494.
  495. {Priest, I'm sorry this has happened. What are you planning to do?}
  496.
  497. The only sensible act that all of us can do is to escape the town and preserve the life that's trapped here. Easier said than done, if you haven't noticed.
  498.
  499. {You're right, the only thing living here will be the rats if we don't get out of here. Is this everyone you could find?}
  500.
  501. Everyone that's willing to leave, the rest have dedicated themselves to defending this town - my pleas fell on death ears, they're not going to budge.
  502.
  503. I've heard that the Divide is taking survivors, so that's going to be our destination as heading west is out of the question.
  504.
  505. {It's worth a shot, spare a prayer and hope for the best. Let's reach the Divide together.}
  506.
  507. Despite all that's happened, you still haven't let this chaos swallow you. Mara will have a special place for you in her haven
  508.
  509. Come, let's depart before we're consumed by this gauntlet.
  510.
  511. {How important are the priests in High Rock?}
  512.
  513. In fear of tooting my own horn, I would say immeasurably. Considering that the clergy have congealed with royalty - the two castes have governed in tandem and continue to do so in some kingdoms.
  514.
  515. Every lord and king has his own priest - sometimes to keep up traditions but most commonly to convene meetings with other kingdoms via the priests relation to one another. Normally overseen by the Priest Circle.
  516.
  517. {Who are the priest circle}
  518.
  519. A council of priests, set up soon after the dissolution of the mages guild in the province - supplanting their purpose, yet with a limited interest in the arcane, as from what came before.
  520.
  521. With restoration taking center stage in our studies, we don't dabble in the more destructive arts - as many royals fear their kingdoms turning into despotic theocracies with a ruling mage class.
  522.
  523. As has happened with a number of kingdoms when the Mages guild held prominence.
  524.
  525. {Is seeking out this "Rados" really a good use of our time? What if he refuses to help?}
  526.
  527. In any other circumstance I would have directed you to a duty more befitting your skills - such is the times where we have to rely on the vague potential of heroic progeny.
  528.
  529. Rados would mean more than his utility to this town, having the very descendant don the iconic armor of that by-gone hero would instill a new sense of hope and morale within all of us.
  530.
  531. I needn't tell you how the guards have been found lacking in principles recently.
  532.
  533. {I've noticed}
  534.
  535. It's hard not to, I want to spur a drive within them again - have them motivated for our future. No better way than the return of an idol that they can all rally behind.
  536.
  537. {But what if Rados refuses to come?}
  538.
  539. If he refuses now, we'll just send someone again - you're beginning to understand our desperation I take it?
  540.
  541. {Very}
  542.
  543. We have ways of coercing people, and no, I'm a priest and wouldn't tread the path of violence just to intimidate innocents into doing my bidding. I will show them our plight and hope that some facet of their conscience would concede.
  544.
  545. {Are you going to be alright here?}
  546.
  547. Better here than anywhere else - I think I can be best put to use where the refugees are flocking. I hope Mara can confer all of her love in these dark days.
  548.
  549. It's easy to see your entire journey as an act of futility, but there has been a story here for you. You have grown as a person and welcomed an entire kingdom into your heart, regardless of how ugly it appeared.
  550.
  551. You sensed something greater than your title, than riches - or is that just my naivety?
  552.
  553. {No, I did sense something greater. I wanted to end the kingdoms suffering}
  554.
  555. And you did, yet you are only one, standing against a mountain that had already began to crumble. I had the foolish dream that we could avert this calamity, but we had crossed that threshold long ago. Long before your arrival...
  556.
  557. ...Now we must make the best of a terrible situation, though that is what us mortals do best isn't it? No matter the crime on our ego's, we still endure.
  558.
  559. [Scene where Priest talks with angry knight who refuses priest to leave town]
  560.
  561. Sek, we can't! We're not equipped to fight this battle.
  562.
  563. We'll just get in the way, the people are what make the kingdom sek! Evermore can survive this town.
  564.
  565. So senseless, let this be the last time we witness death today.
  566.
  567.
  568.
  569. [Misc dialogue]
  570.
  571.
  572. [NPC REACTS TO PLAYER STEALING]
  573. The gods have naught but disgust for thieves, return that this instance.
  574.
  575.
  576. [NPC DYING WORDS]
  577. My service is over...
  578. Mara, is this my time?
  579.
  580. [NPC REACTS TO FRIENDS DEATH]
  581. Those who spill blood are condemned to suffer!
  582. Hideous agent of discord!
  583.
  584. [NPC ATTACKED]
  585. Halt at once!
  586. Have you no heart?!
  587. Stendarr shield me!
  588. Mercy!
  589. Agh!
  590.
  591. [NPC BLOCKING ATTACKS]
  592. I have the aegis of stendarr.
  593. It'll take more than that.
  594.
  595. [NPC BLEEDING OUT, ON KNEES]
  596. Mara... We are soon to meet...
  597. I must continue to serve...
  598.
  599. [NPC ATTACKING PLAYER/ENEMY]
  600. The right arm of stendarr!
  601. Gods, grant me conviction!
  602. Blasphemous swine!
  603. Agggh!
  604. Submit to divine authority!
  605. Begone demon!
  606. Back to your foul mistress!
  607. Let us be ridden of your malice!
  608.
  609. [NPC REACTS TO CORPSE]
  610. May you find solace within mara's gentle sea.
  611.
  612. [NPC REACTS TO PLAYER SWINGING WEAPON]
  613. Careful! We don't want anymore spilled blood.
  614.
  615. [NPC REACTS TO PLAYER SPELLS]
  616. Magnificent display!
  617. A talented mage are we? Should put your use in helping us priests.
  618.
  619. [PLAYER SHOVES NPC]
  620. Careful!
  621. Ugh!
  622.
  623.
  624. [NPC SAYS GOODBYE]
  625. Blessings for your future journeys.
  626. Gods-speed, knight.
  627. Farewell.
  628. Good fortunes.
  629.
  630. [NPC SAYS HELLO]
  631. Greetings, stranger. Are we in need of consolation?
  632. Come for aid?
  633. Good day!
  634. We meet again, how fare you?
  635. Doing well, knight?
  636. Speak with the Arch-bishop, he may elaborate on what we're up against.
  637. Have we made progress?
  638. Are you in need, friend?
  639. We should hurry.
  640.
  641.
  642. [PLANS FOR FURTHER DIALOGUE]
  643.
  644. {Player asks priest how important priests are in High rock, priests says very and goes on about healing power to being able to influence politics. Every lord has a head priest beside them to give council and to bless activities.}
  645.
  646. {Priest should explain further why having rados in Arnima would be important, say that morale is desperately low and that guard are turning increasingly corrupt. Need hero figure or anything to bind people together, what better than grandson of hero.}
  647.
  648. {Player talks to priest in MQ14 at very end about what's happened, priest thanks player for staying on straight path.}
