  1. Chapter 28: The blade//
  2.
  3. A swift movement to the left, avoiding it's fist, my arm lifting on it's own, slashing through the arm as though it were made of water. The blade shone brightly under the spotlights that spread the creature's shadow over me. Zombies walked forward to the creature, merging with it's shoulder slowly forming a new arm. I struck quickly, slicing it'd leg off, the creature fell to the ground. It attempted to stand up as more zombies came to merge with it. My hand guided by some force found once more the path of least resistance. Slashing away the remaining arm at the shoulder. The limb falling to the ground where it began to quickly rot away into a dark puddle which's sickening scent rose into the air. More zombies came to try and replace the missing limb, the regeneration had gotten slow so I took my chance.

  5. I let the giant to it's recovery and began slashing through the horde around me, they tried to step away but only managed to stumble on one another. It only served to make it easier for me. My feet finding where to stand as though of their own volition. Of course I saw them myself, my eyes seeing where I should land, my brain analyzing the best location and deciding where to land, what movement to perform. Such ease had come to my body it felt as though I was simply being controlled by an outside will but the decisions were clearly mine. Smashing the head of one underfoot, gutting another to follow through with the impalement of two others. By the time the giant stood up again I had slain over a hundred of the walking dead it used for recovery. I smiled and refocused on the giant.
  6.
  7. Repeating again and again soon nothing but the giant was left standing, the corpses already rotting. The creature was more hesitant, standing further from me and avoiding to launch unnecessary attacks. -Still able to think I see.- It was of little relevance, it didn't take long for me to find an opening and finish the creature off. Such a giant beast and yet it seemed like such little problem now. Regardless I had to go help the others clear off those beasts. I focused and listened carefully, targeting where the gun fire was and headed in that direction.

  9. I arrived to a desperate scene, many officers were down and being torn by the zombies while others struggled in piles of empty magazines to find some that still had a bullet or two. I rushed in and began cutting the horde apart, their bodies falling like flies but the large number allowed them to keep moving forward.
  10. - "Dammit!" I shouted trying to rush to the front of the horde but my way kept being blocked by more bodies I had to slice through, I had no wings and couldn't get the stability to jump over the horde. The ground being piled in with corpses it became difficult to stand even with my unnatural balance. As I cut through the horde trying to get to the front of it I hear a scream which froze my blood.
  11.
  12. Frederik's voice rose loudly above the chaos of the battle, smothering the sound of the automatic weapons being fired and the moans of the horde. The scream froze my blood I tried looking towards him but my sight was obstructed by the bodies stumbling towards him. -No! Not another one!-
  13. - "I won't let you take someone for whom I care! Not again!" My blood from frozen began to boil, my anger and fear seemed to transform into raw power, the energy naturally flowed into my right hand and seeped into my sword. The blade glew a faint red and seemed to be distorted for a second, as though it had become a mirage, I wouldn't wait to see what happened to it I simply began charging forward swinging the blade through the bodies in my path, the slices began increasing in size and number, harming more of them with each strike. Eventually I broke through the horde to see a group over Frederik's squirming and screaming body, a swift swing of my blade cut the half dozen or so zombies that were there to reveal a sight of nightmares.
  14.
  15. His body was squirming, still living despite his organs being visible and some even outside his body, his scream gargling through the hole in his throat, one of his eyes fixated towards me while the other had gone missing, his lower lip tried pronouncing something, unable from both the lack of air reaching the mouth and the lack of an upper lip. Though no word were said I could easily guess what he tried to say: Kill me...
  16.
  17. I threw my sword to the ground, startled by the sound it made I turned to realize the sword had grown to be five feet long and two feet wide. My anger had changed the sword from a weapon of precision into one of destruction. I turned my attention towards Frederik, his lip again and again repeating the same words no one could hear. His eye filled with desperation. I fell next to him, on my knees I gently lifted his head onto my lap. I looked into his eye, it begged me to kill him to end his suffering. My eyes filled with tears and my heart sank, I just couldn't. I couldn't lose another one for whom I cared, even less so kill him myself. I held him tight against me.
  18. - "Don't die! I can't feel that again!" My heart raced and his struggles eased a bit as though he wanted to listen "I can't lose a friend! Don't die! Not now... Not ever!!!" I cried over his body, he stopped struggling. I held him tight against me, crying over his body, I could hear his heart, his ever struggling breaths. They slowed down, very faint, very quiet. And then stopped.
  19. - "No..." -I can't- "Please..." -Not another one- "Don't die..." -Why?- My tears fell, my heart and blood from boiling to frozen, I could feel my heart covering in a thick layer of ice. "Why again?" I stood up "Why must you take them from me?" I grabbed the sword from the ground, it flickered again like a mirage "Why me?" I lift my head towards the zombie horde with another word I rose the blade straight up and swung it.
