Yu Len's Backstory

Looking out through the dense fog surrounding the camp, I keep my vigilant watch while my companions sleep. It's been the same usual series of events. We recieve a quest from someone, go out to investigate it, and come back for our reward and another quest. This is the everyday life, but hey, it keeps us fed and well despite our injuries we recieve occasionally. When I look up at the full moon overhead, it reminds me of the night I decided to run away and live this life.

Back in Shinkoku within the Kozakura Empire. I lived in a hidden village under the authority of the Shogun. I was trained as a Kunoichi, a covert operative meant to carry out infiltration and assassination missions. A spy. I struggled a lot to live up to my honorable mother and father's expectations of me to surpass them one day, and steadily amassed my own reputation.

On one mission though, there was a man. A Samurai of a Daimyo who was suspected to be working against the Shogun. The moment I laid eyes on him I felt something in my chest, as if my heart would burst. I ignored it and manipulated him anyway to finish the mission, I uncovered the documents the Samurai's Daimyo kept that proved his treasonous intent and presented it to my Daimyo.

What happened next, I should have expected. The Shogun ordered the entirety of the Daimyo's House slaughtered for his deeds, and the Samurai was one of the targets I was given to assassinate. I couldn't do it. I begged my parents to help me plead to the Shogun for the Samurai to be spared, but was told to continue fulfilling my duty.

On a night just like this, I ended up stealing valuable items from my own House, I warned the Samurai of the oncoming danger, and together we decided to elope to the Far Lands of Faerun, becoming Ronin. We made to escape, but were pursued and had to split up before we could obtain passage on a ship to the Sword Coast together. I haven't seen him since we split off during the escape, but I trust that he made it to the Sword Coast and that he's looking for me just as I'm searching for him.

Personality Trait: I always have a plan for when things go wrong, and make extensive preparations before doing anything remotely dangerous.

Ideal: To wish to be with another is a noble goal, but one must be prepared for the trials beforehand. Everyone should understand and cooperate to help each other realize this desire.

Bond: I never told the Samurai that I was responsible for the order by the Shogun to slaughter his entire house, and did not have the time to explain myself to my parents. My dishonorable actions back then still plague me with guilt.

Flaw: Due to my dishonorable becoming of a Ronin, I desperately try to uphold what little honor I have left and don't deserve in an attempt to redeem myself of the shame I've brought to my ancestors and Empire.
