- Q | What are flags?
- A | Basically anything which sets a permanent data point in the game for future reference. For Example: The Find Diddy GB is a flag (0x00,5 in the US Version). When you pick up the GB, that flag is set. When this flag is set, the game knows that when it reloads the map, it doesn't respawn the GB since that flag is already set.
- This is also the reason why dupable GBs (See Mill GB, Seal Race GB etc.) are dupable. When you collect the GB, it doesn't set a flag, therefore the game doesn't know not to respawn it, so it just respawns it so you can collect it again.
- Q | Why are you doing this?
- A | With the assistance of flags, finding out stuff from the game is going to be easier. For example, we know from a past run that an SDA runner did that you don't need all 201 GBs to get 101%. It'll be useful to know what exactly triggers 101%, and what flags don't add to the 101% counter.
- On top of that, glitches are going to be easier to find, dupable GBs are going to be easier to find. In general, finding these flags are going to be useful. We've nearly completed the US version, and now it's time to move onto the Japanese version of the game
- Q | What are you using to find these flags?
- A | I'm using an emulator called BizHawk, and a lua script file called ScriptHawk (Developed by Isotarge). ScriptHawk is the main thing which allows us to find these flags. With it, you can warp to anywhere you want, you can clip through practically anything, you can check flags which you've set, you can set flags, clear flags, set/clear flags by type, and so much more. It's really an amazing tool!
