- Rudimentary backstory: Alza was never alive to see the kingdom in its full unified glory. She grew up in a town just barely on one side of a border between warlords. She kept her head down when the authorities visited for tax collection and worked as a woodcarver’s apprentice to earn her keep, oftentimes climbing steep cliffs to get the choicest wood. When war broke out between warlords her village was caught in the crossfire. The invaders saw it as a resource to plunder for supplies, while the ruling tyrant wrote it off as a loss not valuable enough to defend. While villagers fled Alza stole a sword and stayed behind to buy time for the hobbled woodcarver to get out. That night ended with her facing down a great siege monster and winning by the skin of her teeth. One thing led to another, wanted posters circulated, and Alza found herself in the odd position of fighting alongside the tyrant who abandoned her village. The invading warlord is dead now, but Alza didn’t stop fighting.
