  1. Hey Everyone, and welcome to another XIM Tutorial.
  2.
  3. today will show you a neat trick which will allow you to use a XIM Apex, or XIM4, in Playstation 5 games. Now as you probably already know, you can currently ONLY use your XIM in Playstation 4 games on the PS5, by using a Dualshock 4 controller AND by setting the controller communication option to wired in the system settings of your console. Playstation 5 games however require a DualSense controller, which currently isn’t supported by the XIM yet. Now the XIM dev team is already working on it, but if you don’t want to wait until an update is available, then you can use the following workaround.
  4.
  5. The new Playstation 5 remote play allows you to play PS5 games with a DualShock 4 instead of the new DualSense controller, and because of that, your XIM will ALSO work with Playstation 5 games. Now since most of you are probably concerned about the potential inputlag, lets cover that first.
  6. Here you have a side by side comparison of Overwatch on the Playstation 5. In the left video I’m using my XIM directly connected to the console, and in the right one I’m controlling XIM via remote play. By shooting my weapon you can now CLEARLY see the delay between the two videos. Of course I also measured the inputlag, and the remote play application adds around 18 milliseconds, which honestly really surprised me. I expected much much more, like values close to 100 milliseconds which would be ABSOLUTLY unplayable. But 18 milliseconds is honestly pretty impressive. Now both my console and my PC are connected via ethernet to my router, so I cannot comment on how much higher the lag would be with a wireless connection. But after having tested it for quite some hours now I can say that my XIM plays really really well in Playstation 5 games. I probably wouldn’t play competitive multiplayer shooters via remote play, but I also don’t have to, since pretty much every popular multiplayer shooter also has a PS4 version, that I can play by directly connecting my XIM to the console.
  7.
  8. Now let’s take a look at the actual XIM setup.
  9. To use a XIM via remote play you have to use a second generation Playstation 4 controller. You can identify them by the horizontal lightbar at the top of the touchpad.
  10.
  11. Once you have connected your XIM with the correct controller to your PC, you can download the remote play app from the Sony website. Scroll all the way down and click on the download button. By the way as you can see, you do not even have to use a PC for this workaround. You can also use a PS4 or even a Mac for this trick. On the next website you have to choose the correct platform. Click on Windows, and you will be forwarded to a new website. By scrolling down, you can now find the download button, as well as all the instruction steps, to get the remote play software working. I will not cover the installation steps now, as they are really well explained here. Just follow the instructions to get it running.

  13. Now once you have a working connection it should look like the following. I have set my remote play quality to 360p, which may help, to reduce the input lag. I will obviously NOT use the remote play video to play my Playstation games, since that would add even more delay. Luckily the Playstation still outputs a lagfree video over HDMI. Now here is one last tip. If you use a headset or TV speakers, then don’t forget to change your audio settings in the console options again. Remote play will automatically change them, so you have to go into your system settings, and switch the audio option to the correct one again.
