  1. I find myself explaining this several times a week, so I decided to just write a guide for it.
  2.
  3. This guide assumes you know the basics of IV breeding.
  4.
  5. The type of Hidden Power your Pokemon will have is determined by the parity (odd or even) of its IVs. For example, a 6IV with all 31 has all odd, so it gets HP Dark. All 30 in one IV is even, so that's HP Fighting, and so on. To breed Hidden Power, you want a combination of 31 and 30. At the end of this guide is a list of all possible HP combinations.
  6.
  7. Let's take an example: Suppose you want to breed a Hidden Power Ice Timid Pidgey. We'll use the 31/31/31/31/31/30 spread here. Assuming you have a Ditto with that spread, this is very easy. Once you have the nature, egg moves, and Pokeball type down, you begin to breed with the Ditto as you would with a standard IV breed, replacing the non Ditto parent with a better parent, and so on.
  8.
  9. Checking the exact IVs takes a few extra steps than usual. Because you want a combination of 31 and 30 on the IVs instead of just 31, the stat judge won't tell you everything off the bat. Make a note of what the judge says is 31. Next, go to Fortree City if you are playing ORAS, or Anistar if you are in XY. The Hidden Power checkers are in the second house east of the Pokemon Center (take the stairs right next to the Center) and in the southeasternmost house in town respectively. They will tell you the HP type.
  10.
  11. Note: If you are HP breeding a species that cannot learn Hidden Power such as Beldum, the checker will not tell you what the type is. When applicable, evolve the species to the point it can learn the move. Read Appendix B for an alternative when this is not applicable.
  12.
  13.
  14. At level 50, a Pokemon with an IV of 30 and a Pokemon with an IV of 31 will have the same stat value. The Timid Pidgey will have 115/58/60/55/55/83.
  15.
  16. To obtain the exact values without having to constantly check an IV calculator, go to Pokemon Showdown and make a new team. Once you are there, add the Pokemon you are IV breeding, and set it to level 50. Now set the nature. This is what it should look like.
  17.
  18. There are two ways to auto-set your pokemon to level 50 temporarily. One is to use the Battle Institute, which only lets you use one of the same species at a time. The other is to battle another player (or yourself if you have a second 3DS).
  19.
  20. Once you select a method and are in battle, check your stats. If a stat looks exactly like the Showdown teambuilder data and the IV judge mentioned it, then it's a 31. If it isn't, then it's a 30. (The same logic applies for 0 and 1 IVs when doing Trick Room Hidden Power breeds) Using this information, you can find out if your Hidden Power breed is a better parent than the last, and if you have the perfect breed you wanted.
  21.
  22. Appendix A: All of N's Pokemon from Black 2/White 2 have exactly 30 in all of their IVs. They are perfect for quickly breeding Hidden Power in their respective egg groups.
  23.
  24. Appendix B: If the species you want to HP check cannot learn the move at all, such as Smeargle or Ditto, use a stat calculator while at level 100, factoring in any EVs. At level 100, there is no wiggle room when it comes to IVs. The calculator will give you the necessary data.
  25.
