  1. NEWS: Coffee Lake has been "released". It's only a paper launch; expect low availability on some of CPUs (mainly i7)
  2. ====
  3. >Assemble a part list

  7. >Installing Windows 7 on a Ryzen build

  9.
  10. If you want help:
  11. >State the budget & currency for your build
  12. >List your uses, e.g. gaming, video editing, VM Work
  13. >For monitors, try to include information like refresh rate, resolution and size
  14.
  15. CPUs:
  16. >G4560 - non-gaming or bare minimum gaming builds with a dedicated graphics card
  17. >R3 1200 / i3 8100 - still budget CPUs, i3 is better, but the cost of Z mobos lessens its value (for now)
  18. >i5 8400 - Best gaming CPU for the money
  19. >R5 1600 - Great gaming CPU, better in productivity than i5 8400
  20. >i7 8700k - Best premium CPU all around, runs hot, poor value for gaming-only
  21. >R7 1700 - Best value for multithread performance (productivity, streaming etc.)
  22. >Used Xeon / R7 / Threadripper - Heavy Multi-Tasking / VM Work / Productivity
  23.
  24. RAM:
  25. >For Ryzen: check your Mobo's QVL before buying RAM or look for user reports
  26. >Ryzen CPUs benefit a lot from high speed RAM; 3000-3200 MHz is ideal
  27.
  28. GPUs:
  29. Crypto-Currency miners have driven GPU prices up (particularly AMD ones), so using an old GPU or waiting may be a good idea right now. FPS varies per game; you won't hit 144FPS in everything, even with a 1080ti.
  30. >GTX 1050Ti / 3GB 1060 - Not overpriced, enough for 1080p@60fps at medium-high settings
  31. >GTX 1060 6GB / RX 580 4GB - Slightly above MSRP, ideal for 1080p@60fps, buy the latter if your monitor has FreeSync
  32. >GTX 1070 / 1080 - Good for 1080p@100+fps or 1440p@60fps at lower settings
  33. >GTX 1080Ti - The best mainstream GPU, capable of 4k or 1440@100+fps
  34.
  35. General:
  36. >Include an SSD in all builds above ~600 USD; 240GB is ideal
  37. >You will need a Wireless Network Adapter if you don't have a wired connection
