  3. In February 1904, war broke out between Russia and Japan over Manchuria, an area of northern China. Russia had built an important extension oft he Trans-Siberian railway in the area. People thought that Russia would beat Japan easily but the Tsar regime was pretty weak and fighting in Russia’s east was an disadvantage. 6. 4) What were the effects of the First World War?
  7.
  8. The impact of the First World War on Russia was immense. In the early stages of the war the Russian army suffered huge losses. These losses resulted in unrest in the army and led to questions about the way in which the military was run. Russia was a very poor country so they had to borrow money from other countries during the war, print their own money and raise the taxes. So the poor workers hadn’t enough money to buy their food.
  9.
  10. 5) Why was the revolution in 1917 successful?
  11.
  12. Because the Tsar lost all support, the government was incompetent, the army wasn’t loyal to the Tsar anymore and the workers were poor and hadn’t enough to eat.
