  1. Ocarina of Time, Beta Quest by mzxrules
  2. Download here: http://bit.ly/BetaQuest
  3.
  4. What is this:
  5. The Beta Quest mod is an entrance randomizer built from the NTSC 1.0 release.
  6. It works like this:
  7.
  8. Your file name is used to seed the random number generator, used to shuffle
  9. entrances. Every time you are spawned into the game, the mod intercepts your next
  10. entrance id, and compares it to a master entrance id table.
  11.
  12. The bulk of all valid entrance ids are shuffled amongst themselves, meaning that
  13. if you touch an exit that takes you into an entrance index within this list,
  14. you will only ever end up at a spawn within this list.
  15.
  16. A much smaller subset of valid entrance ids are randomly given an id by picking a
  17. random entrance id from the master table. Entrance Ids randomized this way are
  18. able to send you to a duplicate location. For example, entry points into the
  19. "generic" and Fairy Fountain grottos are randomized in this way.
  20.
  21. An even smaller subset of valid entrance ids are not randomized to make it possible
  22. to obtain certain items.
  23.
  24. Which version should I use?
  25. Due to issues with emulation, there are three different versions of the mod.
  26.
  27. "Fix" has a hack applied that is intended to eliminate the delay that occurs when
  28. pausing or game overing in emulators like Project 64 1.6. This will cause a trippy
  29. graphical glitch, but is otherwise harmless.
  30.
  31. "No Fix" does not have the above hack. This version is packed into the Wii wad.
  32.
  33. "Hardware" is a hardware compatable version of the mod. This version also does not
  34. have the above hack. The only difference is that the rom's files have been
  35. decompressed. For whatever reason, graphical exceptions and crashes will occur
  36. when running this version on emulators like Project 64 1.6 and MupenPlus.
  37.
  38. Other Changes:
  39.
  40. * Added a special mode where entrances are are constantly being shuffled. To play this
  41. mode, simply set your filename to "RNG-Only", case specific.
  42.
  43. * Added a special check to prevent wrong warps, as they cannot be safely randomized.
  44. Attempting to wrong warp will ruin your game.
  45.
  46. Note: Cutscene skips should not be affected (Forest/Water/Shadow/Spirit medallions,
  47. warp songs, etc.)
  48.
  49. * Shortened several key quest cutscenes, and made it possible to press start to skip
  50. the final cutscene. A side effect of this is that you can no longer BA off of the
  51. Light Arrow cs.
  52.
  53. * Entrances that crash as a Child or Adult have been tweaked to not crash. As a result,
  54. all dungeons can be beaten as a child
  55.
  56. * The Nabooru Knuckle fight now also triggers as a child, preventing you from becoming
  57. trapped in the room.
  58.
  59. * Child Link is now able to equip all 3 tunics, and the Mirror Shield
  60.
  61. * Added a secret area that can only be reached by entering a grotto. It will disappear
  62. once you open the chest at the end.
  63.
  64. Note: Although the possibility is very small, beating the secret area may be mandatory
  65. for beating the game.
  66.
  67. * Until you obtain magic, Great Fairy Fountains will always take you to the magic one.
  68. The Magic Great Fairy Fountain's exit will depend on the initial entrance used
  69.
  70. * Ganon's Castle (outside area) spawns have been tweaked to keep you in bounds
  71.
  72. * All of Tower Collapse's temporary events (except for the collapse cutscene itself) have
  73. been made permanent
  74.
  75. * Farore's Wind restore points are retained when going through time
  76.
  77. * The Song of Time door will now open when spawning from all entrances
  78.
  79. * Imported 1.2's Kakariko Graveyard to eliminate sticky graves
  80.
  81. * Whatever you do, don't hold L (Dpad-Up on Wii) and definitely attempt to press different
  82. combinations of these buttons while holding L (Dpad-Up) when going through a loading zone:
  83.
  84. * Z, C-Up, C-Down, C-Left, C-Right
  85. * Start
  86. * R
  87.
  88. Known Issues:
  89.
  90. * When walking around (especially as an adult), you will trigger the infamous fog glitch.
