　　在悬崖谷里有三座怪异的山峰：一座叫母子峰，看去似一年轻女子怀抱婴儿在凝视、在遥望；一座叫宝剑峰，象一把宝剑插入山中；一座叫塔峰（或棒槌峰），孤独独兀自矗立，形似一座塔．这三座峰，传说是二郎劈山救母时留下的遗迹：那母子峰是王母娘娘的三公主怀抱孩婴时的二郎在仰视天庭，塔峰是托搭天王李静镇压三公主的宝塔，宝剑峰则是二郎劈山救母用过的宝剑。

　　王母娘娘说完，二郎眼泪汪汪地说：“我要下界去救我娘。”王母娘娘说：“不行啊，一来你娘被压还未到期，二是要劈开那山，得用开山宝剑。这剑是太上老君炼就，恐怕他不给你。”二郎说：“不要紧，我向老君借。”说完，二郎就去找太上老君。老君很同情二郎，当即打开了万宝库，给他拿剑，可各种宝物都有，唯独不见了开山剑。老君说：“我多日不查点，准是它偷偷跑掉了。”说完，老君定睛往下界一看，说道：“畜牲！原来它下凡到三坡老君庙里行凶作恶！二郎，你赶奔那里，将它拿住，劈开山救出你娘之后，我自有办法惩治这个畜牲！”

二郎辭別老者來到老君廟，那劍妖沒在廟內，二郎就躺在供桌上閉日養神。不一會幾，劍妖回來了，見供桌上躺著個小孩，不由滿心歡喜，張嘴就把頭咬了下來。誰知那小孩身上又長出了兩個頭。那劍妖把兩個頭又咬掉了，可隨即又長出來四個。這下那劍妖害怕了。心想：不好！這不是凡人！莫不是孫大聖？要不就是楊二郎!它正要逃走，二郎大喝一聲：「大膽劍妖，還不快來受降！」那劍妖還未選出門去，就被二郎放出的哮天犬咬住了，二郎一拳打在劍妖身上，那劍妖立時倒在地上顯出了原形，正是那把開山寶劍。二郎拿起宝剑说：“剑妖，只要你帮我劈开山救出我娘，我决不伤害你!”说罢，提着宝剑直奔悬崖谷而去。

At Xuanya Valley there are three strange mountain peaks: one is called the mother-son peak, looking as if a young woman hugging her infant is staring and looking into the distance; one is called the Precious Sword Peak, like a sword stuck in a mountain; and another is called Pagoda Peak (or Bangchui Peake), standing in loneliness, like a pagoda. Those three peaks, are in legend the remnants of Erlang Shen splitting the mountain to save his mother: the mother peak is Wangmu Niangniang's third princess embracing her infant while looking to the heavens, the Pagoda Peak is the Pagoda that Li Jing used to crush third princess, and the Precious Sword Peak is the sword that Erlang used to save his mother.

After Wangmu Niangniang finished, Erlang with tears said, "I'll go to the lower realms to save my mother. Wangmu Niangniang said, "no, the time for your mother to be freed has not come, if you want to strike apart that mountain, you need to use the mountain splitting precious sword. That sword was forged by Taishang Laojun (Laozi), he might not give it to you." Erlang said, "Don't worry, I'll ask him to lend it to me." When he was done, Erlang went to Taishang Laojun. Laojun was very sympathetic towards Erlang's situation, and immediately opened his stash of tens of thousands of weapons to give him the sword. There were many treasures, but the only thing that he couldn't find was the mountain splitting sword. Laojun said, "I haven't checked my stash for days, it snuck away." When he was done, Laojun looked towards the lower realms and said, "Scoundrel! So it decided to the Sanpo Laojun Temple to do evil! Erlang, get over there quickly, take it, and after you split the mountain to save your mother, I'll have my ways to punish this rascal!"

After Erlang made his farewells and headed to the Laojun Temple, as the sword demon was not inside the temple, Erlang lay upon the altar and slept. After a while, the sword demon returned. Seeing the child lying upon the altar, it was extremely happy, and opened his mouth to bite down. Whoever would be able to predict, that the child would simply grow two more heads. That sword demon then bit off both of the heads, only for four heads to sprout. At that point, the sword demon was terrified. It thought, "This is bad! This isn't a normal person! Could it be Sun Dasheng (likely wukong)? Or it could be Yang Erlang!" When it was about to escape, Erlang roared, "You brazen sword demon, surrender quickly!" The moment that sword demon ran out of the door, it was bitten by Erlang's Xiaotian Quan, and Erlang with one punch knocked the Sword Demon back to its true form, the mountain splitting sword. Erlang took the sword and said, "Sword Demon, as long as you assist me in splitting the mountain to save my mother, I won't harm you!" With that, he took the sword and ran off to Xuanya Valley.

Erlang entered Xuanya Valley, and saw a woman hugging an infant standing there, watching the heavens, while a pagoda was in front of her. Erlang knelt in front of the woman, bowed several times, and said, "Mother, your son Erlang has come to save you!" With that, he took the sword, and struck at the mountain. With a thunderous noise, the mountain was split into two, and the third princess walked over, taking Erlang.
