GUSTAVO AMON in: I'm looking for the mayor.

[2:17 PM] Flamy: "So, uh, mister Seth, I was just, y'know, wondering," Amon walks in, hands in his pockets as he takes a seat in the office, "Would you happen to know of any incidents regarding red threads being attached to people?"

He takes a deep breath, and then sighs while drawing his left hand out of his pocket, holding it up for Seth to see. Hopefully, he didn't look like an idiot right now, and even Seth couldn't perceive it.

[3:35 PM] raine: Seth frowns, inspecting Amon’s left hand. “Red threads… of course, yes I’ve heard of them, but I don’t know *how* you could’ve gotten one. Unless…”

Seth looks up and then down, then at the painting on their wall, then back at Amon again. “Hm… I mean, it’s not necessarily a negative thing? But I haven’t seen this in a while. The last people I knew who had string lived about… five hundred human years ago?

[3:43 PM] Flamy: Amon turns his hand, letting Seth see both sides, not that it really mattered. He pans his eyes over to the odd chess-like ornaments on his desk. Who has those kinds of things? What the hell are they for? His boss probably had these before. Damn, if only he could talk to that guy, and ask to be laid off. No, that'd probably result in him actually disappearing. He glances over to the painting on the wall along with Seth, then glancing back.

"So what happened to those poor ol' buggers?" Amon drums his left fingers along the desk, watching the thread, "Did they die? ...Can you die again in the afterlife?"

[3:51 PM] raine: “Well, they weren’t *humans*, so the same rules didn’t apply, but they, uh, ended up being forced apart.” Seth fidgets, before waving their hands. “That’s not to say it always turns out bad! But generally, I’d really suggest not thinking about it too much and just act normally as if there wasn’t a string.”

As for the painting, you notice it’s a painting, but for some reason you can’t seem to make heads or tails of it anymore than you can from the ceiling. “You can’t die again in the afterlife, but you can still end up somewhere you don’t want to be, so I’d be careful if I was you.”

[4:00 PM] Flamy: His vision just blurs whenever he looks at the painting, and he clutches his head with his right hand, shaking his head. Something must be wrong. Maybe celestial/infernal beings simply passively imparted some sort of interference when making art? That'd explain the incomprehensibility.

"Damn, that's rough- So you got nothin' for me, huh?" Amon clicks his tongue, then sticks his left hand back into his pocket, "Well, I'll try to not lose sleep over it. Kinda creeps me that people could be tied together like this against their will, though. Any way I could look at some records, regarding what happened between those two, or is that confidential information?"

Amon thinks about that one manga series he read, where there was a demon that fell in love with an angel, but the angel was cursed to go insane, so the demon had to kill the angel, and he always thought about the pages afterward-- That lives in his head rent-free, honestly. Apparently, aside from some adaptations into other alternative works like the Fun House VN, the demon got put into a crossover open-world action-adventure gacha game? So weird. Sucks that the publishers got suckered into a gacha game, just like the rest.

[4:20 PM] raine: “I wouldn’t look too hard at the painting.” Seth gives a small chuckle. “It’s a historic painting, but it’s not exactly made for humans. Maybe with enough exposure, you might be able to catch it.”

“To be fair, it’s not a *destined* kind of thing? Or, well, it *is* sometimes, but for humans it’s more of compatibility than anything. At least, that’s what I’ve been told about it.” Seth chuckles nervously. “I’m unfortunately not super versed in this kind of thing, so I’m sorry I can’t help you more. I’m not sure there are any records you can understand, but you could try checking the library if you’d like?”

[4:37 PM] Flamy: Damn, not meant for human consumption? That's bullshit. Those dumb packets they put into those laver seaweed boxes should be consumable, too! He'll just have to keep finding more paintings, then.

"The library was my first thought," Amon nods, standing up from his seat and remembering to push it back in place before bowing, "Thanks for the hand, mayor. You've been a great help to me. I think you're doing a pretty swell job, gotta say. People gotta appreciate you more."

He turns, and leaves with a thumbs-up. Man, compatibility?! What kinda nonsense is that...? They barely even trust each other! He's intentionally brown-nosing! You're just supposed to be a suck-up like that. That's just how it goes.

[4:44 PM] raine: Seth nods, giving a wave. “Er, you’re welcome, that means a lot! I hope you find what you’re looking for!”

And the door shuts behind him.
