41. The year is 2039. World wars have destroyed everything and territories are run by corporations, the mightiest -- and cruelest -- of which is Tekken. Jin Kazama (John Foo) witnesses the death of his mother Jun (Tomita) by Tekken in the slums known as Anvil. Vowing vengeance, and armed only with his street smarts and raw fighting skills, he enters a dangerous and potentially deadly combat tournament, where he must defeat the world's most elite fighters to become the "King of the Iron Fist."

 43. All round not a bad effort of converting Video Game to Film. It's in the same calibre as the Mortal Kombat films. Not amazing but worth a watch just to see the characters brought to life.

I have one main issue with the film though. There are several key characters I would of like featured in this movie that didn't make an appearance, although I am pretty confident that there will be a sequel or two so that might be why.

It would appear that this film is based from the Tekken 5 game. As it features fighters that only appear in that version. Personally I would of like to have seen several of the earlier fighters.

Eddy does feature in the film and they really did there homework when it came to his fighting style. It looks just like it does in the game.

In a couple of the fights weapons were briefly used which I did not understand the need for as it is supposed to be hand to hand combat?!

Heiachi Mishima in the games is quite muscular but in the film comes across as a bit small, they got the hair right though.

At times it's a bit cheesy and camp with minor characters cheering for the combatant at the time, saying things like 'All Right' and 'Way To Go' etc. you get the picture.

Costuming definitely deserve credit for making each character dressed properly although I wasn't to hot on Nina's pink costume, it didn't look right. Guys, you will definitely appreciate Christie Monteiro's outfits though...

On the whole an average martial arts/action film for people that don't know the Tekken games.

For fans of the game you'll comment on how you could of done things better but admit it's a decent adaptation none the less.
 44. Movies based on video games have rarely been able to hold up to the expectations of fans. Tekken is no exception, possibly being the worst, most low-budget video game adaptation I've ever seen. Despite extremely low expectations, I found myself highly disappointed, and feeling cheated of the measly $ 4.00 I spent to watch it. It failed to live up to its roots on nearly all levels from the characters, to story, to action style.

First let me start on the characters. The diverse roster of characters found in the Tekken games is one of its strongest selling points. Each character has a unique personality and fighting style, a formula that has made Tekken so special to its fans. Unfortunately, Tekken the movie was not able to replicate any of the few characters that it featured from the original game. Out of the more than 40 possible characters, it included only the following: Jin, Kazuya, Heihachi, Christie, Steve, Law, Bryan, Raven, Nina, Anna, Eddie, Yoshimitsu, Dragunov, Miguel, Jack and Jun. The movie failed to include the old time original characters that fans have grown so fond of. No Paul, no King, no Xiaoyu, no Hwoarang, no mention of Devil or the Devil gene, no Kuma, no Lee, and no Lei. With the characters that were included, there were several inconsistencies with their personalities and fighting styles. First of all, the only character that seemed to recognizably retain his or her fighting style from the game was Eddie Gordo. All the others fought with the same generic kicks and punches seen in any ordinary fight seen. The inconsistencies extended to character personalities as well, with Heihachi being an honorable protagonist who quietly resigned himself to an execution by gunfire. Jin Kazaman, a pensive, introspective loner, is presented in the movie as a juvenile playboy, only able to defeat opponents by recalling advice from his dead mother. These are merely a few of the many things the movies missed out completely on.

The movie was also unable to follow the plot and universe established in the video game. Unlike the game, the movie is set in a dystopian future wherein corporations rule the world, with each fighter representing a different corporation. It also failed to mention the devil gene, one of the most pivotal plot points in the entire game. It did not incorporate any key gameplay elements that make Tekken unique. Although juggling as it is presented in the game is highly implausible in a live action movie, it could have been presented in the following manner: Fighter gets launched in the air by a powerful uppercut, time slows down showing super speed of Tekken fighters, while launched opponent is in the air, slowly falling down, Tekken fighter throws extremely high speed jabs and punches at launched opponent until opponent falls. However, no effort was made to incorporate any such features into the movie.

Removing the consistency facts with the game, it would suffice to say that acting was terrible, action was terrible, costumes were terrible, and dialogue were terrible. The movie fails to please both its hardcore fans, and even non-fans of the game. I, as an avid Tekken fan, and person who appreciates fine film, refuse to recognize this as a Tekken film adaptation. Hopefully, Hollywood takes notice that this movie made some money despite its horrible quality, and someone decides to create a better remake that will live up to fans expectations.

 46. By 2039, much of the world has been destroyed by World Wars and civilization is on the brink. What's left are territories that are no longer run by governments, but by corporations, the mightiest of which is Tekken. In order to keep the masses subdued and entertained, Tekken sponsors an annual Iron Fist Tournament in which fighters from across the globe compete to the death for ultimate glory and a lifetime guarantee of wealth and fame. Jin Kazama is a street fighter who enters the tournament to avenge the death of his mother which he blames on Tekken's powerful chairman, Heihachi Mishama. The only way for him to get close enough to Mishama is if he wins the tournament, but he soon discovers that he needs more than just street fighting experiences to get him through the bloodbath. With the help of Lucas, an aging Iron Fist Champion and trainer, Jin makes his way through the levels of the tournament. In doing so, he also begins to uncover hidden bits of his own past, full of his own inner demons, as well as a revelation about the dark underbelly of Tekken that threatens the very existence of humanity. Tekken is based on an arcade game series of the same name by Namco Corp, a Japanese video game developer and publisher. The game series was adapted for the movie by screenwriters Michael Colleary, Alan B McElroy, and Mike Werb. No. Yes, he will carry the Devil Gene. However, it's rather realistic adaptation so there's no transformations. Some characters borrow very strongly from real life people, e.g., Marshall Law is based on Bruce Lee. Lei Wulong is based on Jackie Chan, Raven is based on Wesley Snipes, and Craig Marduk is based on Nathan Jones. a5c7b9f00b
