  1. Xuriat.
  2.
  3. A peaceful world, for the most part, exposed heavily to its sun and inhabited with what was once exolife. Moreover, it belongs almost entirely to plants and herbivores; sunswept and warm, it is abundant with the energy plants need to survive, and as such is so heavily populated by them that animals do not need to predate upon each other in search of energy. Animals small and large get their fill exclusively from plants, and creatures from beyond its thin atmosphere are welcome to partake as well... so long as they respect its monarch.
  4.
  5. Whether vast, windy plains of tall sweet grass, or valleys carved into stone and populated with sprawling foliage and dotted with spire-like trees, Xuriat is perhaps one of the most peaceful and safe planets in the entire galaxy. Few would suspect, from its simple and welcoming facade, that a grand—and, luckily, benevolent—consciousness is responsible for all of it. Crowning a portion of its equator is the Nak'gar, so named in the native language of the Kailoxit. A creature of grandiose complexity, the Nak'gar manifests across the planet as all plantlife, every blade of grass being an extension of its glorious body, with which it provides sustenance and protection to all exolife that has settled under its countenance.
  6.
  7. From this comes the Kailoxit. Born as dutiful servants to the Nak'gar, they were eventually given a life and consciousness of their own as a gift for their centuries of service. Initially, they kept the Nak'gar healthy and carried out errands on the planet, aiding in the Nak'gar's healing after natural disasters such as wildfires. When finally granted consciousness, they remained seemingly simple creatures, with an intense inclination towards singular purposes and the formation of stringent routines and protocol. Though at first suspected merely to be a cultural facet of the Kailoxit, these tendencies would prove neurological, being an inherent part of the way Kailoxit form connections with their environments.
  8.
  9. The Kailoxit are comprised in the majority by a sweet smelling, shimmering iridescent gel, partially contained within a glossy exoskeleton. This gel is how they consume nutrients, primarily plant matter; it is simply inserted into the gel and is then digested. Their gel is a deep black, with streaks of shifting color, attracting comparisons to an oil slick. Their gel resists unwanted psionic energy, and is capable of hardening at will, forming plates or solidifying into a hard mass. Their chitinous exoskeleton is thin, smooth and malleable to the touch, and appears clear when separated from its host, yet proves surprisingly difficult to rend. Kailoxit grow steadily and uniformly depending on age and diet. Kailoxit begin life at about 60cm in height, and never entirely cease growing; the oldest Kailoxit ever recorded became over 270cm tall, and average adult height is around 210cm.
  10.
  11. Though their upper exterior is quite flexible, it takes on a single, mostly immutable shape; its flexibility assists it instead in absorbing force and squeezing through tight spaces. A Kailoxit's upper body is molded by its exoskeleton into a relatively humanoid shape, consisting of a torso and two arms and yet, jarringly devoid of a conventional head. Their exterior is also segmented to aid in mobility. Kailoxit possess three fingers, in addition to two opposable thumbs set on either side of each hand. Their gel, while capable of making complex movement on its own, is not fully sufficient for the required fine control over their arms, and so is supplemented by telekinetic energy.
  12.
  13. In the center of their chest is a Kailoxit's core, their most vulnerable point, visible glowing faintly with telekinetic energy beneath the surface. A Kailoxit's core contains almost all of its organs, with the exception of those dedicated to collecting sensory data. This core is extremely hardy, enshelled in a field of protective telekinetic energy and further reinforced by an exceptionally strong chitinous material, to say nothing of the dense gel in which it rests. To damage the core is the only efficient way of harming a Kailoxit, as no severe and permanent damage can be wrought by damaging any other part of its body. As stated, a set of organs related to collecting sensory data remains independent, levitating above the 'shoulders' of its goopy host. This 'sensory core' consists of another glassy, black orb, in which an eye can faintly be seen beneath the dusky chitin. The sensory core is held firmly in place by a telekinetic anchor to its host core, and is responsible for the Kailoxit's ability to see and hear. If it is damaged, these abilities are supplanted, though in weaker form, by psiolocation from the main core. It can turn in all directions, and the eyeball inside is itself able to move around inside.
  14.
  15. The lower half of a Kailoxit is far less humanoid, and has no exoskeleton at all. At about where a humanoid's pelvis would be, the exoskeleton terminates, and in its place begins an amorphous font of gel. When a Kailoxit is still, the gel pools out in all directions, filling about a 3 foot radius around it, and slowly shifts. When a Kailoxit begins moving, the gel quickly begins to trail behind them, appearing much like the body of a slug. It undulates in waves, pushing the Kailoxit forward. Once the Kailoxit settles, the gel will fan out around them at a moderate pace, as they relax. This part of their body is important to body language; when the gel is bunched up tightly beneath them, it is a sign of anxiety, and when it is particularly spread out, it conveys the opposite. Sufficient autonomy is possessed over the shape of this gel that it can produce different textures and formations intended to help a Kailoxit pass over difficult terrain, such as ice. If a Kailoxit must move often and in bursts, their gel will not fan out, and will retain a consistent slug-like shape for as long as is needed, though it can be exhausting to maintain this shape for long.
  16.
  17. Kailoxit reproduce asexually. They are known to produce 'seeds' inside of their body, and a Kailoxit can contain up to six seeds at any time. These seeds grow slowly utilizing excess nutrients over the course of the Kailoxit's life. They are long, smooth chitinous formations with two rounded tips, which are encased in a particularly dense ball of gel. When ejected, they peel some of this gel away, and accrue a surface layer of the host Kailoxit's gel as well. They are placed in a warm, sunny location, and using energy from sunlight and nutrients from the soil, a new, rudimentary core will form after about a year. The core will use its initial layer of gel to move, and consume plant matter, gathering more gel and expanding the core until it reaches maturity within about three years. Kailoxit do not have much in the way of genetic variation, and do not evolve in any way, having consistent, identical characteristics. Some behavioral characteristics appear affected by genetics, but this is inconsistent.
  18.
  19. Kailoxit reach mental maturity and independence far quicker than most other species, and are among the fastest learning species yet encountered. This is countered by their routine and ritual-oriented behavior; though Kailoxit learn extremely fast, they also form habits quickly and cannot easily be broken from them. Kailoxit have more limited capacity for skills than most other species, but will attain specialized skills far faster than any other species can, and will generally excel at a few specific tasks. Kailoxit have an intense and innate sense of duty and loyalty; they form deep emotional bonds rapidly with only a few creatures, but these bonds can last lifetimes. Kailoxit can seem stubborn, and the way routines, bonds and knowledge 'cement' in the minds of Kailoxit can sometimes make it difficult to change their minds on a subject or eschew bad habits. However, this can work both ways; Kailoxit recover from addiction remarkably well, and almost never relapse. The difficulty in breaking a Kailoxit of their habit comes from making the transition to begin with, and it can require severe targeted behavioral therapy to force a Kailoxit to eschew a malformed routine for the required length of time, but once they have done this, they will not have compulsions to return to the routine.
  20.
  21. Kailoxit are biologically immortal, and do not age in any significant way besides the gradual collection of additional gel mass increasing their size. Kailoxit do not face any significant health risks due to age, and perish only due to trauma. Kailoxit do not have any immune system, but their biology is incompatible with most contracted disease. They are immune to congenital disorders as well, as all Kailoxit are essentially very nearly perfect clones. They communicate entirely through sonokinetic vocalization, and although Kailoxit possess no important controllable psionics they are quite durable, with their gel being resistant to psionic attacks and capable of absorbing low-to-mid caliber bullets even before hardening, and are able to survive extreme temperatures.
