Her two huge , black hands held Brandun by his chest and waist , lifted him higher . He tried to grab the spear , but he could no longer reach it . He screamed , snarled , beat his hands against hers . His head snapped backward — his legs kicked , his arms flew out , fingers splayed wide . Blood sprayed from his mouth . Her hands trembled for a moment , then Brandun’s chest and hips caved in beneath her grip . Ahiliyah shook her head ; she couldn’t believe what she had just seen . Brandun was dead . The Demon Mother had squeezed him to death , smashed him like a mushroom .
