- The soft tapping of claws against glass over the sound of the rolling thunderstorm could be heard by the child, waking them up from their light slumber. They'd slowly sit up, rubbing their eyes as they look over to the window and see...a hunched over creature with a smile full of fangs...and then the creature's expression changed rapidly as the child screamed for their father who burst into the room with a shotgun. "Oh fuck" The creature jumped from the windowsill and ran off even as the father burst through the front door and started taking potshots at the creature. "GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE, YOU DAMNED DEMON" The father screamed as one of his shots managed to hit the creature in the arm, causing it to screech and clutch it as it ran off into the underbrush of the surrounding forest.
- Hours later, the creature groaned as it used it's claws to dig out the shell that had embedded itself in it's arm, this creature was known as The Rake and in all honesty he had had pretty shitty luck as of late. This is the 4th time he had been shot at in the past month and he decided that he needed a break. He walked into the shadows and began moving between worlds until he found Himself at a mysterious forest that existed between the folds of reality. Within this forest was a large and welcoming building with a sign out front that read "Lucky 7 Diner & Bar" He sighed as he took a shirt and some shorts out from a nearby bush and slipped them on, wiping off the dirt and grime on his claws before walking in.
- Inside it was bustling, all manner of skinwalkers, monsters, and internet legends wandered around. Drinking, eating, playing the arcade games as well as various other activities and behind the bar stood what appeared to be a normal man cleaning a drinking glass, albeit he had a solid-black full-head mask with a red 7 emblazoned on the front, this man was named Lucky and he was the proprietor of this establishment that existed between worlds. The Rake walked up to the bar and sat down, groaning as he did. "Had a bad day Rake?" asked Lucky, not looking up from cleaning the glass.
- "Yeah, like you wouldn't believe Lucky, used to be you could go up to a kid's window and you could maybe have a chat or gain a potential new minion. Now with the internet every kid's on edge with anything creepy like that cause of all these damned stories being spread around." The Rake groaned in a voice that was rather deep, scratchy, yet booming. Lucky put the glass down, seemingly satisfied with it. "So the usual I'm guessing? Backwoods Tea Cocktail, keep the Bottle on hand?" The rake nodded to the barkeep as he began to mix the cocktail, A mixture of Tea, Moonshine, Peach Schnapps, Gin, and Lemon Juice.
- As Rake waited for his drink to be finished, he groaned as he saw who was approaching him, Sonic.Exe the asshole. He was one of the virtual entities that haunted electronic games, which he didn't really have a problem with, it's just that this particular entity was one of those that was hopelessly edgy and just an insufferable prick. "Hey, hey, hey there Rakey old pal! Can't help but notice that shotgun wound a yours on your arm there, What's the hubbub about that bub?" Sonic.exe said in that warped and electronic voice of his. "Sonic, I'm nowhere near drunk enough to deal with your bullshit right now so can you just leave me alone?"
- "Well EXCUUUUUUSE me, just wondering how my dear old backwoods pal is doing, I can't imagine it's getting any easier hunting and recruiting what with your old and frankly outdated ways."
- The Rake groaned as he ran his claws across his face in an exasperated fashion before turning to lucky and saying "Can ya make that a double dose and get me a 2nd bottle?" Lucky nodded before handing off a drink to Sonic.exe. Rake perked up when he saw another being coming over, good old slenderman. His partner in crime and one of the OG monsters that first came to this place. He spoke up and said "Sonic, I overheard Ben saying he wanted to talk to you over by the arcades."
- "Well well well, the life of a super popular entity never ceases, see ya chumps, wouldn't wanna be ya!" Sonic.exe called out as he headed over to the arcade machines.
- The rake gave a tired smile to his friend as he says "Thanks for that, after the luck i've been having I have little to no patience for that fool's shenanigans." The rake said. Slenderman nodded as he sat down beside his old friend, lucky in the meantime had brought The Rake his drink and was already taking Slenderman's order. "You haven't been having much luck either huh?"
- "Yeah Slends, it ain't like it used to be. Like i was telling Lucky, now the internet's pretty much got stories both true and false plastered all over it so 90% of victims actually scream and get help or are one of those creepy fangirls."
- Slenderman shuddered at the mention of fangirls. "Yeah, I get what you mean, hard to be scary or intimidating when everyone at least partially knows how you work or is some kind of crazed fangirl who's not all up there, makes me miss the days back when I messed with those Marble Hornets guys, barely anyone knew who I was and things were simpler y'know?"
- The rake took a massive swig of his drink. "I hear that, maybe it's getting to where I should retire y'know? Get my own little pocket reality and just wile away my years relaxing and coming here y'know? I hear Lucky's looking to open up other establishments soon too."
- "No fooling?" Slenderman asked in surprise.
- "Yeah, apparently more people who are like him who are escaping from the clutches of that organization have been jumping to the realms between and he's looking to help them open branches of this place."
- "Well that'll certainly make things a lot more interesting and make it easier for everyone to wind down, but really Rake? Retiring? You still have all of eternity ahead of you."
- "Yeah, yeah I know but I just keep seeing these newcomers coming onto the scene and none of em really get how things work, don't get me wrong, back in our day we had kids like Jeff and Ben come onto the scene and we taught em the ropes y'know and now they're not really heard of much on the internet outside of the stray post or story be they false or true, but these newbies man, you get some good ones now and again and then you just get a ton of bad ones."
- Lucky brought slenderman his drink as slenderman continued: "Yeah, Lucky here's one of the ones that started bad but then he opened this place and got out of the limelight, there's this new kid too. Apparently he...was part of some kind of ritual that turned him into some vengeful spirit but...he's only 7, don't get me wrong we had shit like that back in the day but...still, they were usually a lot older."
- Rake chugged down the rest of his first bottle before saying: "Yep, s'not all bad though, gotta have hope sometimes y'know?" Slenderman nodded before saying:
- "Yeah, I got that. Listen, I got to go, have a busy schedule tonight and I can't really miss it."
- Rake nodded and said "Alright, i'll catch up with you later man!" as he waved his old friend off. He looked at his bottle before looking to Lucky and asking "Hey Lucky, why did you open this place?" Lucky sighed before saying "I don't know, people and creatures like you and me generally don't have any safe havens what with the organization and various other people hunting us down, I figured that maybe all of us needed a place like this to wind down and chill out, the fact that it exists between worlds where only we can access it is just icing on the cake."
- "You're a good guy Lucky, thanks for the drink, I'm gonna head out." Rake said as he paid up front with a bunch of crumpled and bloody bills.
- "No problem Rake, feel free to use the back to sleep if you need it."
- "Thanks bud."
- The rake stumbled towards the back with a groan, opening the door to a room that had a series of beds in it, some of them occupied by other similarly drunk creatures. He sighed as he collapsed onto an empty bed and stared up at the ceiling thinking about how his life had come to this and how things were going now. He then turned over and decided thoughts like that were for after the hangover tomorrow and slowly drifted off to sleep. So ends another night at the Bar & Diner in the Forest Between Worlds, Lucky 7.
