- Hi there!
- My name is Jarett Dunn. I'm very, very glad that I've found this listing as I'm absolutely positive I can deliver you the results you require, and I have specific experience coding XMPP for both web and iOS platforms. To that effect, I'm going to reply to each of your billeted requirements:
- - I have developed, from the ground-up, a client XMPP application for a company located in China. I spent months learning how to integrate XMPP in order to fulfill the business requirements. I had to significantly alter the code of an existing iOS XMPP framework in order to function properly given that the company's REST API was pre-binding connections with Openfire. That fact required me to single-handedly develop that type of authentication as it was not part of the available framework. It was a ton of fun, and I learned a great deal about the combination of platforms and software. I am also familiar with all types of XMPP authentication (with Openfire) that are available, having also developed the XMPP chat interface for that particular company's WWW interface using PHP, JavaScript and jQuery.
- - I've developed, for iOS once and for web integration, a number of times a function that 'pings' the server from the client in order for the server to acknowledge that the client is still there. This, combined with an 'ok' response from the server, allowed the connection to avoid timing out.
- - I've played with PGP and a number of other security solutions a number of times and have specific experience encoding messages that are stored in a variety of databases in an encrypted manner. I've also used encryption technology to encrypt the contents of files as a blob entry on a server.
- - I've had a ton of experience creating custom XMPP stanzas, with different hierarchies, for XML data to be transferred to the server, read & manipulated & responded to in order for custom communication to occur between the iOS or web client with the server itself. I have experience with the iOS text, audio and video frameworks delivered by Apple as well as third-party solutions.
- - Refer to above point.
- What's even more impressive is that twice now I have extended, using custom XMPP stanzas and a custom re-write of the Java-written Archive plugin for Openfire, client-sided XMPP chat history retrieval, deletion, search and other functions. This particular type of functionality is actually (at this time) only 'available' in the paid version of Openfire.
- 1. My resume is attached.
- 2. Again, I'm Jarett Dunn. I'm a young and intuitive IT professional that has been born, raised and educated on the East Coast of Canada. As you see in my resume, I have had a wide variety of positions with a wide variety of employers, including myself, and some of those organizations are immensely huge - and I have just as great of a time working for smaller, more closely-knit teams. I aspire to continue working in the IT field, hopefully in a full-time position that is as rewarding as it is challenging. I'm an interesting persona and believe that my characteristically eager work ethic, matched with my insatiable desire to learn and grow and expand my abilities both lend themselves well towards success within this industry.
- Lately I've been focusing on mobile development. I attending college once for computer programming, however decided to continue with a full-time role administering computer systems and doing development work rather than return to school - which I find to be no problem atall, given that my resume and portfolio genuinely showcase my skill, ability and value towards any position I sincerely desire (such as yours! I am very, very interested by the 'What we offer:' section of your listing (and I do hold a valid Canadian passport - paid for by the China position - that still has 0 stamps, which saddens me. I've written this entire application on-the-fly!)
- 3. Here's some iOS work I've done. I do apologize, but I'm no designer, and the majority of this work is bare-bones and not very pretty - however, extremely functional, and delivered as per requirements and specifications to the client or employer. I however cannot show or claim my work for the China company in my portfolio due to the restrictions placed under the NDA I had signed.
- Here are some examples of apps I have in the App Store (developed for third parties):
- https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/total-stock/id458036718?mt=8 (not terribly pretty, but functional. See: https://www.samztech.com/total-stock.html )
- https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/total-business-calculator/id452483529?mt=8 (again, not pretty, same client, see:
- Last from this guy: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/stock-protector/id659535977?mt=8 (this one's prettier, I developed the app almost entirely except for the last screen or two's functionality, which was hired out to a different third party, see:
- Next, another client out west:
- http://download.cnet.com/howUdoing/3000-31709_4-75791065.html - this one is no longer in the App Store. Not sure why not. It was developed awhile ago, from the ground-up, by me.
- For the same client:
- https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/boonstock-music-festival/id662246750?mt=8 - I integrated the Facebook API and also fixed some errors with the in-app picture editing SDK.
- It's worth mentioning that I also built from the ground-up a number of other iOS applications, that didn't get to the App Store for different reasons, such as a survey taking application for iPad for an Audi dealership in the states for the person who owned that dealership (no need to sell app on the market), a sports game record keeping iPad application, and the iOS App I'd mentioned for my Chinese employer.
- There are also a number of apps I've developed, including some videos that progress in 'steps' showing off the stages of development, for show on my youtube:

- 4. I've included some of the work on that I've written - but the terms 'successful accomplishments' sounds to me differently than it probably sounds to the average applicant. To me, the amount of joy and exhilaration i feel whenever I've conquered another technical problem I've been having, or use pure logic and a systematic approach to troubleshooting or debugging, or completing a task I'd laid out for myself to be completed by a certain amount of time - regardless of the situation when it comes to code, I am truly and hugely impressed with myself. I am proud, on a daily basis, to be contributing to a project that is interesting, challenging and rewarding. That's why I thought it would be a good idea to write this particular cover letter.
- I really do hope to hear from you in the near future. This is an amazing opportunity, and I'd love to be considered. At the time of writing there are 37 proposals.
- Cheers from now, and please do have a great shift and day!
- -Jarett
