  1. -- GOOD OTHER VNs --
  2.
  3. * Fate/Stay Night: Realta Nua - Action / Fantasy - Choices, J Voices
  4. First of all, definitely use the Realta Nua version. It strips out the few, pointless H-scenes. So, there's that.
  5. You'll have to pirate / use the english patch, as far as I know this hasn't ever been officially translated.
  6. Anyways, this is one of the first major VNs that was translated and is now a now a whole multimedia franchise with lots of spinoff anime and games and movies and blah blah blah.
  7. The premise is that every so often a Holy Grail War takes place, where 7 magicians form pacts with mythological figures to fight for them. Their goal is to win the "Holy Grail" and have their heart's desire granted.
  8.
  9. * Muv Luv Extra / Unlimited / Alternative - ??? Genre - Choices (in Extra / Unlimited), J Voices - http://store.steampowered.com/app/449830/MuvLuv/
  10. Muv Luv Extra is a boring and cliche dating sim, where you pick a waifu and romance her. It's not very good at all.
  11. However, Muv Luv Unlimited / Alternative are the HIGHEST RATED VNs EVER. I won't say any more about the plot or setting, but I will say that it doesn't stay a dating sim forever. And, no, you can't skip Extra. It's very important later, trust me.
  12.
  13. * Rewrite - Slice of Life / Action - Choices, J Voices
  14. Currently, this is only fan-translated but it's getting an official translation sometime this year (but expect it to be delayed).
  15. The city of Kazamatsuri is a sleepy Japanese town that has become known for being a particularly "green" city, where man and nature exist in harmony. Just outside the city is a massive forest. Unbeknownst to the townspeople, it's current caught in a cold war between a group of nature-worshiping summoners and self-confident superhumans who both are after something called the "key", which they believe will show up soon...
  16.
  17. * The What a Wonderful Series - Fantasy - Light Choices, J Voices -
  18. Going to put an entire series under one entries. Currently, the entries translated are (in order of release):
  19. Sekien no Inganock -What a Beautiful People- - Fan-translated
  20. Shikkoku no Sharnoth -What a Beautiful Tomorrow- - Fan-translated
  21. Gahkthun of the Golden Lightning - https://store.steampowered.com/app/458380/Gahkthun_of_the_Golden_Lightning_Steam_Edition/
  22. The basic premise underlying this whole series is that sometime in the 1700s, the British Empire found a portal to a fantastical world with both magic and really advanced steam technology. So, by the time the story takes place, society has been completely changed to a fusion of steampunk and magic. They're all written rather poetically, and made up of vignettes that reinforce the themes, driven along by a main plot revolving around the main character. Oh, and they star real life historical figures in this alternate history.
  23. Inganock takes place entirely in a city in the fantasy world that's been sealed off for years now, mysteriously. In this town, magic seems to be flourishing even more than usual, transforming people into beasts and granting powers, for better or worse.
  24. Sharnoth takes place in the city of London. Agatha Christie (yes THAT Agatha Christie) has to team up with a mysterious man named M to unravel the mysterious behind the monsters that seem to come out at night. Also one of her eyes has turned gold, and people seemed to be after her for that as well.
  25. Gahkthun takes place in an academy off the coast of France. Unlike everywhere else in this steampunk hellscape, the air is mostly clean, the island kept pristine by the academy staff. The main character, and best named character in the world, Neon Scalar manages to scrape together just enough to get into this university and start taking classes. However, she quickly runs into a "hero" named Nikola Tesla (yes THAT Nikola Tesla), who declares he's going to save every student this academy and tear it down.
  26.
  27. * The House in Fata Morgana - Horror / Mystery - Choices, No Voices - http://store.steampowered.com/app/303310/The_House_in_Fata_Morgana/
  28. A gothic horror VN, full of creeping dread and spooky situations. Come for the spooks, stay for the surprisingly deep story and characters. Great soundtrack, good vignettes, great job at connecting all these little mini-stories together in the end.
  29.
  30. * CLANNAD - Slice of Life / Feels - Choices, J Voices, Semi-Stream Friendly - http://store.steampowered.com/app/324160/CLANNAD/
  31. A lot of people say that this is their favorite VN. I'm not a big fan of Slice of Life, so it isn't mine, but it is very good.
  32. This is a quality VN with a very simple premise: a broken high school boy who is fed up with his situation in life manages to start picking up the pieces. If you like slice of life at all, you'll probably love this VN. It has hilarious moments, tear jerking moments, and has the best parents in any form of media (seriously, the Furukawas are the best characters in the whole VN and not just the comedy scenes).
  33.
  34. * VA-11 HALL-A - Comfy / Cyberpunk - Gameplay, No Voices - http://store.steampowered.com/app/447530/VA11_HallA_Cyberpunk_Bartender_Action/
  35. This is a super comfy cyberpunk themed game, where you play as a girl bartender in the cyberpunk dystopia. You mix drinks and listen to your customers problems, while dealing with paying rent and other problems of your own. You're a small cog in the machine that is society, just trying to get by. Great soundtrack, neat concept. To me, this is made even better by the fact that it was made by a small team of Venezuelan developers, and you can see some of the problems that Venezuela is facing reflected in the dystopia being presented.
  36.
  37. * Tsukihime - Horror / Action - Choices, No Voices
  38. This was the first VN written by the guy who went on to make Fate/Stay Night. I think I actually prefer it, but the production values are really low. There's H-scenes in each route, for what it's worth. They're terrible, so just skip them.
  39. The main character is a boy who has received a set of mystic eyes capable of seeing the "lifelines" of anything, be it living, dead, or the undead. If he runs a knife along these lines, that thing will cease to exist. These eyes also have a little side effect of driving him crazy.
  40.
  41. * Rose Guns Days - Action - Minigames, No Choices, No Voices
  42. This is written by the guy who did Higurashi and Umineko. Unlike those, this is no mystery, it's pretty much a straight up mob action story.
  43. It's set in a post-WW2 Japan, in a slightly alternate history where Japan was forced out of the war by a massive earthquake before the allies were able to invade. In the post-war Japan, China and the US have joint occupation over the island, and lots of local mobs have sprung up to take advantage of the chaos. This VN follows the founding of one such mob, whose goal is to bring some sort of stability to the Japanese people living in Tokyo.
