  13. If you've already played the first game and found it underwhelming,
  14. I can assure you, Drakengard 2 is a *massive* improvement. Indeed, you
  15. *should* play the first game before this one, as it's so clunky in
  16. comparison, you would have a (particularly) hard time stomaching it
  17. if you played the second game first.
  18.  
  19. - The save data takes 48 kb of space. You can only have one of these
  20. on a single memory card, and each one limits you to only 3 save slots.
  21. Also, the game only supports slot 1.
  22. - The play time counter maxes out at 99:59.
  23.  
  24. - Base physical damage is Str/10+ATP-1.
  25. - Legna's base damage depends on his form.

  30. - There are five playable characters: two dudes (Nowe, Urick), two
  31. waifus (Manah, Eris), and Legna, the dragon. Each human character uses
  32. weapons of a certain type: Nowe uses swords, Eris spears, Manah staves,
  33. and Urick axes.
  34. - Most ground enemies fall under one of four enemy types. Characters
  35. have largely different multipliers that affect the weapon damage they
  36. deal to these enemies, as seen below.

  44. - You have 8 slots for weapons and 6 slots for healing items. You can
  45. also equip one accessory. Like before, weapons gain xp and level up,
  46. with Lv4 being the max. Aside from increased power, leveling up weapons
  47. (usually) also gives you access to new combo attacks.
  48. - There are two attack buttons. By default, these are set to Square
  49. (standard) and Triangle ("special"), but I strongly recommend you set
  50. special to X, so you can easily press them in quick succession.
  51. - All weapon attacks have a damage multiplier and a Guard Break
  52. multiplier.
  53. - Performing combos with minimal input requires you to be somewhat
  54. precise. Given how the timing varies between characters and weapons,
  55. and how it can be further affected by chain bonus, it's best to just
  56. resort to button-mashing. Eg. the timing for Manah's Tailwind Blade
  57. looks roughly like (a), but instead of trying to pull that off with
  58. just five inputs, you can just mash it (b).

  61. - Aside from the combo attacks, you also have an uppercut that floats,
  62. a thrust attack, a mid-air attack, an air smash, and a backflip-kick.
  63.  
  64. - When swarmed by enemies, it's generally best to stick to your ground
  65. combos (and magic). However, if you can't easily hit multiple enemies
  66. (either because you're getting blocked or because there simply aren't
  67. that many enemies nearby), you can deal the most damage by using an air
  68. combo. Float the enemy, hit them in the air, then finish it with an air
  69. smash (which does increased damage to a floated enemy).
  70. - There are a few enemies who can't be floated, the most common of which
  71. is the Elite Knight.
  72. - Many enemies possess what I like to call 'snap attacks' (due to the
  73. sound effect that plays when an enemy is about to unleash one). These
  74. are the most powerful attacks the enemies have, and since they make the
  75. enemy invincible for a while, you can't interrupt them by attacking. Be
  76. prepared to switch to defense to avoid these attacks.
  77. - Each weapon has a certain magical spell attached to it. You can cast
  78. the spell at four different levels of power depending on how long you
  79. charge the spell (by holding down the button), with higher levels being
  80. unlocked as you level up the weapon. Charging speed varies depending on
  81. the spell and the character. While your character is invincible when
  82. casting a spell, the charging process renders you immobile and, thus,
  83. vulnerable. As such, it can be interrupted by enemy attacks. Not an
  84. issue with Lv1 magic, since the charge starts at Lv1.
  85. - The pink bar above your health represents your MP. Your max MP is
  86. unaffected by level. No exact figures for MP are visible, so I can't
  87. tell you what your max MP actually is (even the Official Complete Guide
  88. has nothing to offer on this).
  89. - The secondary MP bar is split into four parts and displays red blocks
  90. that indicate possible magic charges. Lv1 magic takes one block, Lv2
  91. takes two blocks, etc.
  92. - You generate MP by killing enemies, blocking attacks, taking damage,
  93. picking up Magic Spheres and using MP healing items. Manah also gains
  94. MP from hitting enemies (63 hits for one block) and, when she's not
  95. active, she innately generates MP at a rate of one block in 63 seconds.
  96. - Nowe and Legna share their MP in Ground+Air missions.
  97. - Money and Spheres disappear after 16 seconds. Money comes in three
  98. possible values: 10 G (silver coin), 100 G (gold coin), and 1000 G (bag
  99. of money). The most common enemies only drop silver coins. Most enemies
  100. have a 25% chance to drop money upon defeat.
  101. - Hitting enemies with physical attacks in quick succession increases
  102. your chain counter, which will then grant you certain bonuses upon
  103. reaching certain figures. Aside from the bonuses listed below, your
  104. attacking speed also increases.
  105. - After landing a hit, you have a few seconds to land another one before
  106. the counter resets. Enemies can still be hit for a while even after dying.
  107. Casting a spell will reset the timer.

  125. - Knocked down enemies instantly recover when off-screen (unless they're
  126. within approximately 5 meters from your character).

  128. - Legna attacks by breathing fireballs. In Ground+Air missions, he can
  129. easily mow down the most common enemies, who in turn have no way of
  130. attacking him. Certain enemies are resistant, however, and/or have a
  131. way of attacking Legna from the ground. They'll still take normal damage
  132. from Overdrives.
  133. - Enemy hitboxes are fairly generous in Air missions.
  134. - By holding down the attack button, you can use Legna's homing shot.
  135. It only deals 0,3125x damage, however, so I don't recommend using it
  136. at all, outside of a few, rare exceptions.
  137. - In Ground+Air missions, Legna has access to Overdrive attacks that
  138. consume MP. In Air missions, there's no MP and you can't use Overdrives.
  139. Instead, you have access to special attacks enabled by picking up Breath
  140. Spheres, which may be dropped by enemies when killed with a regular
  141. fireball. By default, you only have access to the vanilla Breath Sphere,
  142. but new ones are unlocked as you progress in the game. If the sphere
  143. isn't white, you can change its color by shooting it.

  152. - There's a useful technique that allows you to briefly fly in one
  153. direction while being able to aim freely. Simply tap Accelerate while
  154. turning to perform it.
  155. - Exp gained from enemies killed with Legna's Overdrives is multiplied
  156. by 5. Even so, you should avoid using Legna during Ground+Air missions
  157. when not necessary unless you're concerned about dying.
  158.  
  159. - Free Expeditions are covered as soon as they become available (ie.
  160. after completing a chapter). Free Expeditions are missions you can replay.
  161. Story missions can't be replayed (outside of doing a New Game + playthrough).
  162. - The PAL version is properly converted into PAL 50Hz.
  163. - You really want to play the game using a controller that has at least
  164. a half-decent analog stick (ie. the stick is equally sensitive in opposite
  165. directions). If it's only a little off, take it. Unfortunately, that's
  166. about as good as it gets, it seems.

  181. - There are four difficulty levels: Easy (Standard), Normal (Challenge),
  182. Hard and Extreme. You can only freely choose the difficulty level of
  183. your first playthrough, which will be either on Easy or Normal. After
  184. completing this playthrough, loading the clear data will then start a
  185. playthrough on Hard, and completing the game again will up the difficulty
  186. one last time to Extreme. There is no way to lower the difficulty.
  187. - Difficulty affects the enemy's level of aggression, the damage they
  188. deal, and how much HP they have. You can (mostly) tell which difficulty
  189. level you're on by the color of the save data.
  190. - While you don't gain more Exp directly on higher difficulty levels,
  191. it'll be easier to increase your combo count due to the enemy's increased
  192. HP (kind of).

  1720. the swipe, but need to get some distance for the other two. A well-timed
