- This is a statement on the fate of the modern-day scene and underground.
- Nearly all of the situations surrounding the disestablishment of the underground were circumstantial, there was nobody to blame but the underground itself, and nothing that could've stopped it. But one point for which this was not true was the underground's obligations to young hackers. An entire generation of talented hackers have lost the opportunity to become a part of something bigger than themselves by participating in a functioning hacking community, simply because hackers were too self-absorbed to notice.
- Today's youth, for the most part, have no true understanding of hacking. They have no knowledge of the history, no knowledge that a history even exists. Their hacker is the media's hacker, the cyber terrorist, the Russian mafia. This is unfortunate, but the real trouble begins for those few that somehow become interested enough to look a bit deeper. The average person requires some form of role model, something to aspire to, to imitate and to an extent, to idolize. At this time, the only visible efforts were the white hat researchers, the black hat horde or various other technically inept self-proclaimed 'experts'. There is so little inspiring research, and even less inspiring hacking, that anyone new to the world of hacking is almost invariably left with a skewed impression of things.
- Indeed, for a lot of the young people that managed to acquire the necessary technical base, hacking was seen as simply an interesting path to worldwide fame. There is no passion in these people, no motivation to extend, create and contribute. They're obsessed with the idea of becoming the next big thing, the next big 'cyber terrorist', the next big black hat hacker. Not only does this sadden me as a person that has been part of a rapidly decaying underground and scene, but it also saddens me as a fellow black hat to see others go because of this.
- Today's scene is assailed by the fame hacker, the profit hacker, the unskilled 'black hat', the child seeking for fame. Who are we to blame them? The underground was dying because of itself, because of those who were part of it. Those who decided to enter the open-world and trumpete about their research, their achievements and their intelligence. You are the reason it died. You are the reason why the seas of the scene are sailed by unskilled children, so who are you to get blitzed at them? You made them, you forged them into the deluded and unskilled kids they are, you forged them into the unskilled children that think and claim they were part of the underground.
- To all the unskilled script kiddies out there, stop thinking that you were part of the underground, stop thinking that you're a genius, stop thinking that you're untouchable and stop thinking that you are the greatest hacker amongst all the other script kiddies. There is usually no need to be brilliant to impress people with hacking nowadays. Even the simplest hacks are amazing for people who don't know how they are working. Today's hacking is about using thousands of cheap and old tricks discovered by the underground but people are not aware of that. Since this kind of cheap hacking has visible consequences for the masses, script kiddies are falsely assumed to be the insanely skilled and talented hackers. We layed the foundation, the underground was the framework for the script kiddies. You should ask yourself if today's scene would've been the same if there would've never existed an underground.
- The question is not then how to artificially group these people into a new underground movement. The question is not how to mourn the passing of the golden days, how to keep the memories alive. There are no questions of this sort, no problems that can be solved or corrected by individual action. The underground is dead. The time of Projekt Mayhem and Cassoulet!@# is over. It will take time, and there will be difficulties. Some will not be able to let go of the past, and some will fail for not remembering it.
- Also, the whitehat crowd who think they are underground make me sad. Do us all a favour and commit hara-kiri, whitehat losers.
- I'm truly impressed with the level of skill within the black hat underground. The leaders of the world would crumble in fear if they had any idea whatsoever about the extent of this. It's only too bad that all the whitehat posers, who's only "skill" is publishing other peoples work and posting XSS to full disclosure, are being noticed.
- Who am I? I joined ac1db1tch3z and never looked back. This will be my final statement on the underground, today's scene, today's hackers, the whitehats and the script kiddies. If you know me, I know you. To all the losers pretending that they've known me or know me, you don't. You never were part of ab, zf0, h0no, UIA, laggy, ally, LaMaLo, 2l8, ILF, c666, vh, UP, dikline, b0g or sh4d0w.
- The underground is dead and all we can do is look at it being lowered into it's grave by today's scene and hacking world.
- Shoutout to those who were real
