This has happened to me too. My article is nowhere in the first 20 pages after PBN links. It has been over 12 days now.
Yes new links can cause extreme fluctuations sometimes. Wait and let it settle down.
One thing to consider before link building is to question yourself whether your website will be able to handle the incoming links. Build links slowly. PBN is the last step.
For your current situation - I suggest you back it up by building a bunch of social links and diversify your anchor text to a massive extent. I don't know what your current anchor %s are like. But as a rule of thumb try to keep your main keyword well within 1%-2%.

Nothing wrong with buying links.
There's reason buying links, just like build PBN and shady guest posting, violated google's rules. Because IT WORKS!
And google won't know the difference if links was bought or earned.
You just have to know WHAT, WHERE and HOW to buy the RIGHT links.
