- Study Session With Bartholomew
- Of course, young Uri would find the time to study and exchange old notes with a classmate and relative of his, Bartho. The two were heading into a profession that was in high demand. Uri saw this as the perfect time to break his cousin into how things could be done, and how they, as medical apprentices could make the life of their grandmother easier by learning what they could on their own. Uri made sure to share the basics with Bartho, assuring his cousin that sometimes its better to go with your training and gut feeling than to break down and make a nervous decision with damage that could last a life time.
- [23:22] "Mhm, it does. I've visited him a few times and I must say I bored out of my mind. The tea was amazing, but I was entirely bored."
- A light chuckle came as she spoke. Pausing shortly to look on toward the approaching Uri.
- "Hello sweetheart."
- She called to him just as she was taking the seat.
- "How've you been?"
- (Elora Renae Otho)
- [23:25] Uri smiles, more confident with his skills as an apprentice. "I feel... Like I'm not so clumsy anymore, I helped a patient on my own for the first time."
- He paused because now he wondered if that friend ever got treatment from Elora after he applied the lax essence and cleaned the wound, covering it with a new wrapping. "Thallis? A wilderness kinda guy, I'm not sure if he ran to you for help. Lax medicine only last for so long," he laughed nervously hoping his friend was not roaming about trying to fight more with a wound that hasn't healed.
- (Uri Sanctum)
- [23:31] It seemed that he was right about how dreadfully boring Monk life was, but then again that was Grandpa. Everyone had something different that they enjoyed doing and if his good day was absolutely nothing... Then that was his choice.
- "I can't imagine doing nothing like that Grandma, it makes me tired thinking about it."
- Uri, who had cometh to thy bench. A thinking spot, spoke of his magical helping tale which made Barthalamew open his eyes widely. Smile brimming it seemed he was excited to hear about how his cousin was coming along with the medical training.
- "That's awesome Uri, you really got to help somebody all by yourself?"
- He wanted to do that too, but it was going to take so much time to get there.
- (Barthalamew Otho)
- [23:44] He nods his head. "What have you been up to though, Bartho? I suppose you've been trying to keep up with everyone as well huh? Training and such?" He gave his cousin a nudge with his elbow.
- Even though Uri was a medic, he fought with the fury of a knight cadet, all for the sake of being that 2nd line of defense, for he knew, if someone wanted to truly weaken an army. They would aim for the medical crew, then the artillery and finally, the infantry. Simple tactics, hard to execute but something to surely win if done right. So it made him wonder where Bartho stood in all of this.
- "What will you do anyhow? You have many plans for the great horizon ahead?" He could see that their grandmother might of been distracted so he wouldn't ask her the same question twice, because this town was very lively and noisy.
- (Uri Sanctum)
- [23:48] Hearing out Uri, the truth was he had been managing to keep up with everyone else... but there was the whole thing with trying to learn too many magics at once. It would work out eventually, but for the time being he was feeling behind on power.
- "I guess that you can say I have been trying to keep up with training, really have been getting to work on that and I am starting to feel a little more confident. I actually managed to master a new spell which is really explosive!"
- The smile never seemed to fade, but there was more to it than just trying to get stronger and learn different magic. A big part of his day now was trying to learn from his grandmother.
- "I actually have started to study medicine from Granny as well, I am going to try my best to become a medic within the next few years and hopefully will be able to help out people just like the two of you!"
- (Barthalamew Otho)
- [23:55] Popping out his journal, there were many things Uri took note of... How to deal with severe bleeding especially since that might be common around here with everyone entering dangerous unrestrained battles for kicks and giggles..."Just be careful, and maybe one day, we will open up a family hospital---If you want, I can lend you some notes of mine, just might need to go and get myself some sheets of paper to write them down from my journal."
- He would turn his head to his grandmother, "Because of grandmothers teachings, I was able to patch up my friend Thallis, though hopefully, he found her to complete the whole treatment." He laughed a bit, because of the day where he and Elora hardly had the time to take a lunch break because people kept rolling in for treatment.
- "What magic do you study anyway?... I hope you're better than me in that field... I didn't go for a healing art...Guess I'm still a bit too much of a knight but, honestly...I think our minds are all we need...Magic is just a bonus."
- (Uri Sanctum)
- [23:58] The idea of borrowing some notes wasn't exactly something he would be against, it could help in the future to go over some things and really get that experience in. Although, he wanted to work for this himself mostly.
- "I think that would be really cool to have a family run hospital. We could patch up everyone super quick as a team! It could be so cool if more of the family learned medicine."
- Pushing forward into the topic of his magical abilities there was a few things that he wanted to keep to himself... but this was family and it shouldn't matter to share what he was trying to learn.
- "So I've been learning wind magic to reach lightning and fire magic to learn how to control explosions! Big booms and zipped zaps. So far I've managed to get really basic stuff but I am starting to learn more."
- (Barthalamew Otho)
- [00:02] Uri whistled, "Sounds like you got a long road ahead of you... An explosive one but, I believe you'll get there cousin Bartho, after all... Hehe, our family has done well over the years, and I'm sure we will too, that includes you!"
- He would then offer a fist bump to his cousin. "What do you say? Not going to let the achievements of others ever pin ya down right?" He got into the mood to speak, despite being 13, Uri had a knack for helping others and knowing exactly what path he wanted to take.
- "If you want, we can go to the library for a while at the church, and share notes---I kinda missed class today for the First Light." He was busy, but at the very least, he made sure to attend his studies at home school.
- (Uri Sanctum)
- [00:05] "I really do have a ton of stuff that I need to study and learn, it's going to be super tough but Granny and everyone else can help me along the way. For now I am trying to get ready in order to participate in that big tournament everyone keeps talking about. It's coming up soon too!"
- Excited by the depth of conversation it was starting to get good "I wouldn't ever let achievements of other people get me down, we should use that stuff to try and aim higher right?"
- Reaching out with his fist, they would connect for a proper bump "We could head over and share notes if you like, I only really had my first session today where I was shown how to relocate a shoulder."
- (Barthalamew Otho)
- [00:13] Uri grins, only to spring up from the bench and lead Barthalamew on over to the church, a place of healing and probably the only place considered to be a clinic as it has its own hospital room Uri was allowed to use. "The church of Faith is a place of healing, so Priest Inante told me that it would be great for us to use the hospital room."
- Upon arriving there. "The hospital room is on the right, a place full of beds and the proper tools to help conduct first aid." That's when he took a glance at the many notes of his.
- "Shh." He says, in respects of all those who came in and out of the church.. So before he could move onto the hospital room. He had to pay his respects, honoring the silence as well as Priest Inante.
- "Honorable Priest," he smiles. "One of these days, I will find you when I'm not so occupied in my studies, and seek guidance to the stars once more," Uri was disappointed in himself for not having the time his sister and many of the other cadets had... Sure, he could fight his sister on equal grounds, but he felt as if he were falling behind more and more, day by day... His mind however, unchained, as he learned the medical arts from his grandmother Elora from dusk till dawn.
- (Uri Sanctum)
- [00:18] Inante only smiles as he observes Uri. "Oh worry not, As long as you hold the faith and the love for the stars within your heart and soul you will always be capable of hearing their will." He'd point up towards the glittering night sky that was visible through the Pane of glass on the roof the church, So the stars could always be in full view.
- "We all have to make sacrifices, and not always can we have time to pray or meditate but when the time does come know I will be here for you to receive you and guide you in your prayer. Times are looking to getting tougher, And you who will become the next generation of Knights should always be prepare for any outcome the stars have planned." The soothing voice of the Priest echoed slightly throughout the church's halls.
- His hands adjusted towards his robes to smooth out the fabric before he stood idle in place waiting for whom ever was faithful enough to enter the doors and to speak with him.
- He was always there when he needed to be, and here he would remain a solid figure of the Faith. "I hope this beautiful star light night is treating you both well?" He'd say in a hushed tone.
- (Inante Arl Salis)
- [00:21] Heading into the Church, he had been inside here a couple times now. This was actually where he managed to find Granny popping a fools arm back into place, it was really something to witness since this was a house of worship and healing.
- "This is a cool place, I've been in here before but never really had the chance to explore beyond wandering through the halls in order to find Elora."
- Turning his attention toward the Priest who happened to be standing at the bottom of the steps it would appear they were certainly one which Uri had gained knowledge from over the past, with how they talked it was smooth as the silky robes he was wearing.
- "Yes sir, the night has been going quite well so far. It's beautiful out."
- This being the first time in the presence of a priest, he wasn't exactly sure how to act. Certainly tried not to be a complete heathen and sat down properly... As proper as a semi-slouching teen could.
- (Barthalamew Otho)
- [00:30] Titus was given a nod of acknowledgement as he entered the Church. As always Inante was there, standing well and prepared to give aid to those within the Church had they needed it. "Welcome to the Celestial Church, How may I be of service to you dear faithful? Perhaps a prayer or even a blessing of an object you posses is within my power."
- Inante clasped his hands, The Codex Cosmos was tucked away safely within his robes as he looked towards those who gathered. It was always nice to have received so many faithful's regularly although he saw more faces he recognized he couldn't fault others for not showing up as frequently.
- "I hope to see you all at the ritual Princess Alice will be performing soon. I think it will be a great and wonderful way to usher in the will of the Angels and the Stars." He'd say with a gleaming smile.
- (Inante Arl Salis)
- [00:40] He bowed his head, thanking Inante. Now he would shift his focus to the many symbols within the church. "And ready I always will be," he spoke with some confidence looking over to Bartho now, opening his journal and in it. His notes.
- "Let's talk about something that will likely happen in battle. It's a MUST have sort of wisdom after all, and that's dealing with severe bleeding." He nods, pointing at the page, near the very end of his journal as it was one of his latest entrees.
- Journal Entrée Number 8... Severe Bleeding
- "Remove any clothing or debris on the wound. Don't remove large or deeply embedded objects. Don't probe the wound or attempt to clean it yet. Your first job is to stop the bleeding. Wear disposable protective gloves if available.
- Stop the bleeding. Place a sterile bandage or clean cloth on the wound. Press the bandage firmly with your palm to control bleeding. Apply constant pressure until the bleeding stops. Maintain pressure by binding the wound with a thick bandage or a piece of clean cloth. Don't put direct pressure on an eye injury or embedded object.
- Secure the bandage with adhesive tape or continue to maintain pressure with your hands. If possible, raise an injured limb above the level of the heart.
- Help the injured person lie down. If possible, place the person on a rug or blanket to prevent loss of body heat. Calmly reassure the injured person.
- Don't remove the gauze or bandage. If the bleeding seeps through the gauze or other cloth on the wound, add another bandage on top of it. And keep pressing firmly on the area. This doesn't mean you can be reckless though, everyone has a different body type so there are many factors involved.
- Tourniquets: A tourniquet is effective in controlling life-threatening bleeding from a limb. Apply a tourniquet if you're trained in how to do so. When emergency help arrives, explain how long the tourniquet has been in place.
- Immobilize the injured body part as much as possible. Leave the bandages in place and get the injured person to an emergency room as soon as possible."
- (Uri Sanctum)
- [00:57] Turning his head over toward the journal which seemed to just be filled with all manner of pages on medicinal information there was an entry about Severe bleeding like he had spoken about before which seemed to be a really long note on how to take care of somebody that was extremely injured in battle.
- His eyes would slowly go over everything that was written down on the page, from trying to stop the bleeding before removing any of the large pieces of embedded objects. Leave the wound alone and just make sure to not go rubbing dirt into the wounds. It seemed pretty straight forward.
- Sterile bandages, clean cloth and firmly press down to attempt controlling the bleeding with pressure to hopefully bring the leak to a halt. Wrap it all up... There was so much information here that it was a bit overwhelming, though it needed to be that way as a means not to kill people.
- "Secure bandage... above the heart. Blankets, Tourniquets."
- Reading over the part on Tourniquets took the longest because he wanted to make sure that there wasn't any mistake. He believed that you just tied a piece of cloth around the limb and used whatever you had to tighten it, a stick or something of the sorts to twist and secure it to the person. It was all juicy information that really helped and he would look up to Uri and give him a smile.
- "You really have been putting the work in, that's great stuff and I'm sure it will really come in handy if there are any big battles in the future."
- While that was all happening the man Inante was talking about Angels and saints, he wasn't really a religious lad, but it did seem quite interesting to listen to while they were studying.

- [01:05] "Yeah, every day so far, I've been diving into the books and getting some field experience. It's a great way to learn, when grandma isn't around and resting." He then pats his cousin on the shoulder.
- "There are other parts in the studies I've forgotten to include, but those things are very basic I believe. But, while we are here, a quick refresher shouldn't hurt right?" Young Uri did not want to let his cousin miss out on anything medical related, after all, since they were practicing in the same field. It was a pleasure, truly to have someone else within his age group and part of the family, learning the same profession as him.
- "You know what's a great help to people like us? Alchemy, and as a matter of fact, a friend of mine dedicates most of his time to it when he isn't training in the arts of rune glyphs or crafting in various forms... The guys a genius, his name is Esbern."
- Urithen points to another section of his journal. "I bring this up, because Lax Essense is a remedy for pain yes. Not a healing potion, and many seem to mistake it for such... There are raw plants such as soothing reeds and other things you might be able to find out in the woods... Though I wouldn't recommend it, not unless you had nothing else, zero resources at all."
- He would prod the pages, pressing against or rather tapping the book, "I cannot stress this enough when I say that... Potions are a good tool when you don't have a magic like blood magic, to stop bleeding or fire magic to just seal a wound."
- (Uri Sanctum)
- [01:14] His cousin certainly understood his stuff about being a Medic, Elora and his own experiences have certainly showed him more than enough to go out and be a great one on his own.
- "It's really good to keep your head in a book, I know with learning magic that it is basically the same thing. Just keep reading and learning, practice then makes perfect right?"
- The part about Alchemy was something he knew, there were so many different potions and brews which could change the way people were injured. Some of the stuff was beyond even the most capable medics bare hands.
- "I know that it would be really good to have an Alchemist friend, they have so much stuff that it can go a long way in somebodies road to recovery right? I'll have to keep an eye out for this Esbern."
- The next section of the journal "Yeah I remember you telling me about Lax Essense earlier. I am sure that it would help for a little while, but don'tlet people use it as a cure?"
- Making a mental note of all that stuff, he was happy to spend time with Uri. A smart cookie his cousin seemed to be "Well I really appreciate all the help Uri, I'll be sure to remember all of this when I finally start working on actual people."
- (Barthalamew Otho)
- [01:22] Listening to what Bartho had to say. Young Uri would explain further. "Yes, it's not a cure, it's just a pain reliever that only last for about...Twenty four hours." He said with a calm tone, not distracted by anything else in the room.
- "I will say this though. Whenever grandma goes out to treat someone, make sure you shadow her, and watch closely. She has years upon years of experience. Though, you already know that haha..." He spoke gently, so low and only to Bartho that his conversation might be seen as nothing more than a whisper.
- After all, he had to respect the presence of the Princess. Though giving her attention would likely annoy the royal. So he continued to study the medical science with his cousin. "Final note, are you ready for this one?"
- He smiled, counting his fingers up to the 5th number on both hands. "There are many steps, many variations in how you can seal a wound, conduct surgery but really bud... If anything you stick to your basics, your gut feeling and most importantly, the patient... Read their body like you would a book, because every person, is an entirely different story."
- That was his philosophy on the matter. When treating a magi patient. Grandma Elora mentioned that they should always clean the wound first, and then once it is clear, apply pressure. Magic can be used to better heal and mend little wounds but things such as this required time, patience and precision.
- (Uri Sanctum)
- [01:30] It seemed that Uri had taken more information from Granny when it came down to everything he was saying. She certainly had about sixty years of life experience on the duo, about fifty if you combined their ages. It was quite intense to think how easily she helped people, but then again it was the decades of work she put in.
- "You're right Uri, I'll make sure to remember this stuff, Granny will be sure to have be tailing her for a little while because I'd like to help others just like her. Our family could all learn how to perform medicine and run the hospital like you said."
- He was also trying to keep his voice down, although there was the word princess... It didn't matter to him, he had been in the presence of the High Lady from the forest city, Dragon lords from Theria. People of power were just people at the end of the day.
- "Granny told me about how everyone is different too. Trust your instincts and make sure you don't accidentally end up worse than you started. Sometimes pain has to be used in order to reach the end. I'll keep up studying and trying, thanks for everything Uri."
- If allowed, he wanted to reach an arm over his little cousins shoulder and give him a squeeze. It was super helpful having him by his side.
- (Barthalamew Otho)
- [01:34] Uri would give his cousin an open grin, accepting the hug as well. "Oh---Don't thank me cousin, just make sure you do your absolute best, I know we both will... Because I'm not worried about strength, not less we need it."
- After breaking the hug. He would get up from the bench, it was time for him to head on out, and get some fresh air. He didn't want to fry both of their brains from so much studying.
- "Wisdom, it's what we truly need, right?"
- Uri waited, and if nothing was needed of him. Then, he would nod his head to his cousin, bow to the royal and the priest of the church; taking his leave shortly after.
- (Uri Sanctum)
- [01:36] "I'll be sure to do my best with everything I can, I wouldn't want to live any other way. Be it a tournament or simply helping somebody across the street. We should give it our all right?"
- Nodding to Uri, it was about time to leave this holy place. Not that he hated Churches. But he wasn't exactly a holy boy. No no, not like everyone else who might be lurking within the beautiful building.
- "Wisdom certainly is a virtue. I'll see you later Uri?"
- (Barthalamew Otho)
- [01:38] Uri nods his head and takes leave. "Of course Bartho, but be safe out there... And may the stars be with you." He'd look back with a smile and wave of a goodnight once he reached the door.
