  1. She was just another underhive gutter rat, only good for getting shot, being beat, or being sold. And she didn't want to be sold. The pimps and pushers that fed the gangs drugs and girls were the worst. Snatching up young girls that weren't poxed mark, that weren't too used up already. Get them high, get they caught, throw them to the wolves.
  2.
  3. She clutched the knife closer, tried to steady her breath.
  4. "Come out, come out, little fish! We aren't gonna hurt ya... much!" She could hear their chuckling, their snickering, already feeling a burn in her body of what would happen if they got ahold of her.
  5.
  6. A rattle in the alley, something fell and she let out a scream, before biting it back. Too late. They heard her!
  7.
  8. "Gotcha now, ya little bitch!" One of them said, as they approached her hiding hole. The knife... it wasn't really for them, it was herself... it was better to die then to be taken by those animals.
  9.
  10. And then a dark miracle happened, one that confused her so much when one of them... the furthest from her and behind his comrades... vanished with narry a scream.
  11.
  12. Then another fell.
  13.
  14. Then a third... and finally... it was just her, the leader, and this looming presence!
  15.
  16. She was tall, statuesque, and absolutely stunning in black blue leather clinging to her lithe body, her hair long and dark and free. She grabbed the man with one hand and with strength almost impossible for her lithe body, lifted him up like she would lift a child.
  17.
  18. "These streets... are no longer yours!" The tall woman said. "Tell the others... the Night Huntress is after them."
  19.
  20. She tossed him away like so much garbage that he was, before turning on her heel.
  21.
  22. "Come, sister. There is much work to be done this night... and others."
  23.
  24. Who was she to say no to her savior?
