  1. It had been five years. Five long years since Sorin had lost her. Five years since their daughter had been born. Born without ever knowing her mother. And Sorin knew that he had been a bad father to her in that time. Sorin had looked after her and took care of her but he had never been a real father to her. Every time he looked at her, he just thought of Audrey. How that she was gone.
  2.
  3. He kept to himself in those years. He would meet with his old friends and family but he never interacted with them like he used to. Icaria had grown up well as Sorin could let her. She was starting to take after her mother. It had made Sorin more distant. He tried to reach out to his daughter but he could never bring himself to do. So he kept her at a distance. Pyro and Jess had tried to talk to him, tried to get him to open up to them, to Icaria but Sorin had pushed him away. He was like he was when he first became an Interference. Keeping all his pain and grief inside and pushed people away.
  4.
  5. The two had been returning home after a party at Jess' place. The two were sitting in one of the trains in Twilight Town and Sorin was staring out the window. "Daddy?" Sorin turned to Icaria who seemed distraught.
  6.
  7. "What is it?" Sorin asked.
  8.
  9. "I lost my toy sword." She replied and Sorin frowned. It was a cheap plastic sword that he had gotten her one time the two went to a carnival and he had won it for her. Icaria loved that toy, managing to keep it together for over a year.
  10.
  11. "I can get you another one." Sorin said simply.
  12.
  13. "I don't want another one! Daddy won it for me and I'm going to be as strong as you!" Icaria proclaimed as she started to search the train for it.
  14.
  15. Sorin watched her search. Even after so long she still remembered how he won it for her. How that she said at the time she would use it to become as strong as he was. Sorin felt ashamed at himself. He kept pushing everyone away, including his own daughter. But even how he was never a father to her, Icaria still looked up to him, still loved him so much.
  16.
  17. "Come on." Sorin said as he stood up and walked over to Icaria. "Let daddy help you look for it." Sorin watched as Icaria gave him a bright smile and together the two searched. After looking through several cars they managed to find it.
  18.
  19. As the two were sitting in their seats, Icaria holding the sword close to her. She seemed to be so happy that they found her toy and that Sorin had helped it. Sorin wanted to look away, realizing how he had acted for so long. But there was something he wanted to do. Something he should have done earlier.
  20.
  21. "Hey Icaria." Sorin said softly waiting for her to turn and look at him. "Do you want to hear stories about your mother?" Sorin asked. He couldn't help but smile at the way Icaria looked at him. She had only known about Audrey from the stories others told her but this was the first time Sorin was telling the story.
  22.
  23. So Sorin told her how the two had first met, how they got closer, how they fell in love. How both of them grew and became better people thanks to the other being there for them.
  24.
  25. "Then..." Sorin started as he was trying to continue a story about one of their adventures together. "And then..." But Sorin just couldn't seem to continue. Softly as he stared off in the distance, tears flowed down Sorin's cheeks. All the pain he had bottled up for the last five years was released all at once.
  26.
  27. "Audrey..." Sorin could see the first time they had met, in Twilight Town when they were so much younger. When they were just teens trying to make it through each day as an Interference.
  28.
  29. "Audrey..." He could see the day the two kissed for the first time and admitted their feeling for each other. How after that soft and simple kiss they just held each other, just enjoying being by each other.
  30.
  31. "Audrey..." He could see the day that he proposed, bringing her up to the top of the clock tower and got on his knee and asked her. He could see the tears in her eyes as she said yes.
  32.
  33. What broke him out of the memories is the feeling of something grabbing his arm. Looking over he saw Icaria holding him, crying as well. Sorin smiled gently as he wiped away his tears and put his hand on her head and messed with her hair. "Hey you don't need to be crying. Now where was I? Oh yeah so..."
  34.
  35. For the rest of the ride home and even after they got back Sorin told stories of Audrey. He didn't stop until Icaria just couldn't stay awake anymore. As he tucked her in to let her sleep Sorin walked back to his own room and grabbed the framed picture he had of her.
  36.
  37. "Audrey I'm sorry..." Sorin said softly to the picture." I was too stupid to realize how much Icaria needed me, but not anymore. She's our daughter and I'll protect her. I'll be the father I should have been from the beginning. I miss you Audrey. I miss you so much but I can't hide myself away like this anymore. I love you. I will always love you."
