- Kay is on the other side of the forest and he’s doing what he’s told. Keeping watch for suspicious things. And he comes across a guy named Menealfe dragging a woman around by the hair. Kay immediately goes “Let her go or run my fade!” and Menealfe goes “OK! Come get cut!” The two battle, first jousting on horseback and then in a swordfight. Now, to his credit, Kay does better than he does in any other story where he’s not the protagonist. He knocks Menealfe down off his horse once, and when Menealfe knocks him down for the second time, Kay simply stands up, walks over to him, and drags him off his horse for a sword fight. Then Menealfe hits him so hard with the flat of his sword, his eyes cross and he’s sprawled out.
