- Welcome to the unofficial Guide to the ADV2!
- If you’re new to the Floatwheel ADV2, welcome to the ride. This board is more than just a PEV (personal electric vehicle); it’s part of a movement.
- Floatwheel is a company that’s taken a different path from the likes of Future Motion (the makers of the Onewheel). While Future Motion is known for its sleek design and tight ecosystem, it’s also been criticized for limiting user repairs and locking out third-party mods. Floatwheel, on the other hand, embraces the DIY spirit. Their boards are designed with modularity and repairability in mind, making them a favorite for riders who value freedom and control over their gear.
- The ADV2 reflects that ethos. It’s powerful, customizable, and built to be tinkered with. Whether you’re here to ride it out of the box or dive deep into tuning and upgrades, this guide will help you get started, stay safe, and have fun.
- Let’s get rolling.
- You may need to use cryptocurrency to purchase certain Floatwheel parts or accessories. Many riders use platforms like Coinbase to buy and send crypto easily. If you’re new to this, the Floatwheel Discord community is a great place to ask questions and get step-by-step help from people who’ve done it before.
- Your Floatwheel may take a few weeks to a few months to ship or you can pay for premium delivery. Beware tariff delays.

- The ADV2 comes ready to ride in terms of software but you can make some changes to improve the safety and comfort of your ride.
- Pro Tip: The Float Hub app makes easy work of VESC setup.

- VESC TOOL
- It’s crucial to back up your VESC Tool settings—losing your configuration can mean hours of re-tuning or even damaging your Floatwheel if things aren’t set up right.
- > Backup Configuration
- Change Settings
- > motor current Max current
- (Motor configuration> general)
- 160/-160/240
- > Temperature cutoff
- (General>Temperature)
- Acceleration temperature decrease:
- 0% (avoid nosedive when motor gets hot)
- IMU 832 sample rate
- Same in float package
- Change max input voltage https://pev.dev/t/battery-voltage-configuration-best-practices/957
- Is your board nose huntinng?
- Go to Motor Settings>FOC>Advanced, Increase Zero Vector Frequency.
- Default is 20 kHz. Most people prefer it anywhere between 25-30 kHz.
- When you select ADV2, it will configure everything to be ideal for that board setup. However, what you're referring to sounds more like the board's tune and how it rides (under Float CFG in VESC Tool), which is a personal preference thing and not handled by Float Hub, at least currently. Float Hub is for the Motor and IMU Setup currently
- PSA: If you own an ADV2, under Refloat CFG
- -> Remote, turn Remote Type to None!!
- The BMS attempts to simulate cell low-voltage pushback by acting as a remote essentially, but the way it's implemented is incredibly dangerous (occurs at too high of voltage, no accounting for voltage sag), and if you configure the remote config with aggressive settings like 20° angle and fast tilt speed, it will drop the tail at this aggressive angle and rate.
- Unfortunately, this also means there's no safe/reliable way to run a PPM remote on ADV2 for the time being.
- Here's the correct and updated steps you should follow after installing your revised ESC and BMS. If you received a new/replacement board recently, please also double-check whether these settings are correctly configured:
- Step 1:
- VESC TOOL - START - BACK UP CONFIGS
- Step 2:
- VESC TOOL - MOTOR CFG - GENERAL - ADVANCED - MAXIMUM INPUT VOLTAGE - 96V - WRITE
- Step 3:
- VESC TOOL - MOTOR CFG - CURRENT - BATTERY CURRENT MAX - 70A - WRITE
- Step 4:
- VESC TOOL - REFLOAT CFG - SPECS - HIGH VOLTAGE THRESHOLD - 88V - WRITE
- Step 5:
- (After testing that everything is working correctly, backup again)
- VESC TOOL - START - BACK UP CONFIGS
- ReFloat is a tool designed to reset or “unbrick” Floatwheel boards—specifically the ADV and ADV2—if something goes wrong with the firmware or VESC configuration.
- Here’s what ReFloat does:
- Restores factory settings in case your board won’t boot or connect properly.
- Fixes firmware issues that can happen after bad updates or incorrect VESC Tool changes.
- Re-establishes controller connections, like if your CAN settings get messed up and the board won’t respond.
- Think of it as a panic button for when your board stops working due to software issues. It won’t fix hardware problems, but it’s a must-have tool if you’re doing firmware updates or VESC tuning.
- You can also follow along with this video tutorial — config files are linked in the comments.
- Please help us spread the word — share this updated notice with your fellow ADV2 riders.
- Pro Tip:
- Don’t let battery cells drop below 2 volts.
- If your Floatwheel arrives with a dead battery, don’t charge it instead contact [email protected]

- Pro tip: Check hardware connections, adv shouldn’t be shutting off from curb drops.:
- Getting Started:
- Startup: Wait 5 seconds after powering on before you can ride. The ADV2 makes a beeping sound.
- Power Off: Hold the power button for 2 seconds to turn it off.
- Battery Check: Step off the board to see the battery level on the lightbar.
- Connection Error:
- If you see the VESC tool error “This only works for Motor Controller”, it means you’re not connected to the controller yet.
- → Click the CAN button and select your controller from the list.
- my ADV2 would turn off when dropping down six inch curbs, new out of the box. After using FloatHub I haven’t been able to replicate the issue! If anyone experiences that and still has issues Tony says “It must be current overshoot the protection limit of bms, please set battery current to 70A for now, I will do more test on this.”
