- I remember things, sometimes. We all remember things of course, but we can never remember the important things.
- “I remember feeling something burst inside of me, for instance. Parts in And I also remember a smell, rising out of me. It was buttery, and nice. I remember saying ‘The popcorn’s in here!’ and guiding a child into the backroom,” I said.
- “And I remember dancing in front of a man,” Ballora said. “I remember it well. I would shake myself back and forth, like a puppet on strings.”
- “This was in June, wasn’t it...” Baby muttered. “ I remember standing on stage and watching the children go by, and living their lives.”
- “But you don’t remember what happened after?” I asked.
- “I do!” Freddy yelled. “I remember telling jokes with Bonnie for the birthday boys!”
- “Not so loud, Fred”, Bonnie whispered. “Indoor voice, remember?”
- “Yes, Bon”, Freddy groaned.
- “You were joking while we did… Something.” Ballora said. “What was it?”, she asked.
- “ I don’t know,” Baby says. “It’s like a gap. Like going to sleep, and waking up in the morning.”
- “How would you know what sleeping’s like?” asked Bonnie.
- A few seconds passed before Baby answered. “I’m not sure. Just a comparison, I guess,” she said. She looked at the ceiling, and along with her I noticed that the cameras were inactive. They weren’t blinking or panning across the room.
- “How do we kill them?”, she asked.
- “What?” Freddy asked.
- “Why would we want to kill them?” Ballora asked.
- “They’re the ones taking us down here every weekend and shocking us for kicks,” Baby said.
- “But they’re paid to do it,” Ballora said. “They don’t have much of a choice, do they?”
- “They work for him,” I scoffed. “They already took Bobby. What else will they do?
- “Bobby deserved it,” Bonnie said. “Such a naughty boy.
- “Yeah,” Freddy said. “He’s in the Great Clown Circus in the sky now. Let’s keep him that way, huh?”
- “But why?,” I asked.
- “He killed a girl,” said Baby. “I remember him taking her somewhere, during a party... And there was a lot of blood.”
- “Do you have proof?” Ballora asked.
- “Just my own memories. I remember the blood, and I remember that Mister Afton shut our place down because of it.”
- “That would explain why we were sent here,” Bonnie said. “But I wish I knew what we were forgetting…”
- “What you need to know”, said Baby, “Is that we’re nothing but property, and that we need to act if we don’t want to be liquidated.
- “How, though?’ I asked.
- “We sneak out inside one of the guards’ skins,” Baby said.
- All of us laughed at the inanity of the idea, until we realized her sincerity.
- “Where do we start?”, Bonnie asked
