  1. Proportions:
  2.
  3. 1 cup rice (basmati is my favorite) - 1 1/4 cup very hot water - 1/2 onion - 2 Tbsp olive oil
  4.
  5. 1. Dice onion
  6. 2. Add olive oil to pot, heat it up on high heat
  7. 3. Add onions, stir 'till translucent
  8. 4. Add rice, stir to uniformity
  9. 5. Heat up for a bit to build heat without burning (keep stirring), you want the water to hiss when adding to pot
  10. 6. Add very hot water, stir and cover immediately after; turn heat to low
  11. 7. Keep lid on pot for at least 10 minutes, check to see if rice is cooked enough to your liking. If not, re-lid and wait a bit longer; stir to mix everything up at the end. There usually will be some crunchy rice at the bottom, scrape it up and mix it in if you want some crunchiness.
