  4. We began to rebuild, the progress was slow, breaking down what remained on land, and having the scavengers pull up wreckage still out at sea, the remnants rusted and decayed. It's been 3 years since the flood waters cleared up. The population is a fraction of what it was. Only a few structures remain and those eggs, we don't know what laid them or how long they'll sit dormant we only know that there's more of them than there are of us. They seem small no more than 2 - 3 inches long tops, leathery on their sides with a solid shell growing on top of them, we found a scale of what they'll become though and it's a terrifying thought. To this day, there are daily trembles that roll in from the sea and a slight squealing sound can be heard on the quiet ones if you're standing by the eggs, each day growing louder.
  5. I fear for our safety when they hatch, they're going to have to eat, and regardless if they eat us or plants we're going to die, our food stores aren't large, and our crops haven't grown well, there's not enough of us to fight them off, we haven't found any useful remnants of weapons in the three years and whatever they are will grow too big to fight. Every night I fall asleep and wake up wondering if I'll live to see the next day. Today the trembles from the sea happened sooner than expected and stronger than ever. Then Silence, like impending doom, no animals, nothing, everything was silent until the screaming started. It's been hell since, humanity running from the pack, they eat everything living, themselves included if they can't find us, they way they kill, it's like nothing I've ever seen before. Latching on, opening up a vein and sliding what I can only think of as their tongue into the wound, draining the victim, they're alive the whole time too, their screams still haunt my sleep. Nothing seems to kill them, we found a weapon cache going inland nothing we had found so far worked. They're getting closer, each day we hear fewer and fewer animals around us, it's getting quiet, so quiet it's deafening.
  6. we know our end is near, maybe it's not as painful as we thought becomes the discussion, we can only hope though. They're breaking through our lines now, I watch as I cower in the back everyone around me being taken down by one of these monsters. It's gotten silent now a mass of them approaches me, each one begins fighting the other, wanting me, I try to run and the mass moves to block me. The fighting continues and the last ones grow larger and larger as they feast on their brethren. I sit and wait, it's coming, the last one, it moves to feed, then everything goes dark.
  7. I'm awake now, there's a tremor coming from the ocean, much sooner than expected, and so much more intense than we've seen before. I turn on the news, the anchorman is panicking, he's not making sense. "The oceans are rising and our coastal cities are gone already, we don't know the source of this but it's coming our way, mandatory evacuations are already in place. Please follow the directions of the soldiers near you.
