- To the Honorable Patty Hajdu and the Ministry of Jobs and Families
- I am writing to you and your ministry as a Canadian to voice my concerns about Canada Post.
- I am disappointed in this government for trying to force unwanted changes upon Canada Post under the excuse of economic reasons, and disappointed in the upper management of Canada Post for crying poor after their mismanagement led to their current situation. I am disappointed and concerned that Canada Post and this government has implied - and continues to imply - throughout this labour dispute that the postal workers - people who are just trying to make their living - are responsible for the chaos, uncertainty, and damage to Canada Post's finances and reputation; when the responsibility falls to Canada Post refusing to negotiate in good faith to find a solution beneficial to both Canada Post and its postal workers. Finally, I am disappointed that this government seemingly wants to treat Canada Post - our country's postal service - as a business that needs to make a profit every financial quarter, instead of a public service and an investment that can help build Canada Strong and keep Canadians connected – especially for small Canadian businesses, Canadians in rural and remote areas, and Canadians in the northern Territories.
- I am writing to ask the Honorable Patty Hajdu as the Minister of Jobs and Families – if she wishes to prove that this government is supportive of labour rights and of unions – to NOT undergo any undemocratic and anti-worker actions that punish our postal workers for simply trying to fight for their living; this includes refusing to forward back to work legislation, fighting any back to work legislation that makes its way through the Houses of Parliament, and especially refusing to use and abuse Section 107 of the Canada Labour Code to force these postal workers back to work. Furthermore, I am asking you to do everything in your power as the Minister for Jobs and Families to push Canada Post back to the negotiating table in good faith, to make them end the uncertainty and chaos that they have created, give postal workers fair and just compensation for their work, and to take comprehensive and meaningful steps to invest in our postal service as a public service that can Build and Keep Canada Strong.
- I thank you for taking your time to read this email, I hope that this reaches the people of concern, I hope that they take these concerns seriously, and I do wish anyone reading this email nothing but the best as they serve their role in this government and this ministry.
