- STAAABmons: A Love Letter to my Favorite Metagame
- Hi there, Eggs here. I'm a moderator for OM Mashups and the Co-Leader of STAAABmons, and I'm here to gush for [vid time] minutes about STAAABmons.
- The Basics
- STAAAB is a mashup of two Other Metagames: STABmons, which gives Pokemon every move that shares one of their types, and Almost Any Ability, which is what it sounds like. Unlike either format, STAAABmons (is fun) allows for many unique combinations of moves, Pokemon, and abilities that make it an entirely different experience from either of the base formats. Suddenly, every Fire type has access to Mind Blown and Magic Guard, every Water type has Flip Turn and Regenerator, and Normal Types can basically do whatever they want.
- Key Pokemon
- Chansey: Chansey benefits immensely from the changes in STAAABmons. Normal Typing grants it a ton of useful options, like Rapid Spin, Glare, Whirlwind, and even Encore, while AAA means the blob is free to run abilities like Regenerator, Magic Bounce, or even Sticky Hold. Chansey finds itself on many teams due to the high power level present in the metagame, as few Pokemon can tank a Choice Specs Primordial Sea Water Spout from Inteleon without running Water Absorb. It's a reliable pivot and tanks special (and weal physical hits) easily.
- Garchomp: The premier offensive Pokemon in the tier, Garchomp has a frankly astonishing amount of options, as STABmons greatly bolsters its offensive, defensive, and utility movepools. The standard offensive set, dubbed "TechChomp", runs Bonemerang and Dragon Darts (which become 150bp STAB moves after Technician), while then picking between Dragon Dance, Swords Dance, Shore Up, Fire Fang, Stone Edge, and Stealth Rock/Spikes.
