Genesis X Rivals of Aether singles pools
Here's my list of the most interesting sets in pools at Genesis X (not including any winners' qualifier sets, because I assume those will all be streamed). Sets are ordered by round they occur in and then by how interesting I think they will be; bold sets are especially exciting. "Rare players" are just any notable players we either have never seen before or don't see often at majors, and they are listed alphabetically. WR1 match recommendations are just "if you have dead time and need a WR1 match to stream, these are some decent options"; the WR2 and WR3 matches are generally more important.
Wave D
Rare players: _Liuser, ASINISTERTACO, Liam (Gizmo), LightlyToastedWaffle, Lucio (Mexico), mow_kitty, Troco (NASB2 player), W!ZiM (old XBox RoA player), WolfLord
WR1 sets:
- D413 D: Troco (110, ???) vs Popguin (147, ???) - Troco is a high level NASB2 player, Popguin has been entering Rivals at Genesis for years (but DQs sometimes)
- D413 F: _Liuser (83, Eta?) vs Mansand (174, ???) - AFAIK, _Liuser hasn't entered a tourney since Genesis 7 (4 years ago)
WR2 sets:
- D409 H: ASINISTERTACO (62, Absa) vs W!ZiM (67, Fors?) - Taco hasn't entered anything in years, and W!ZiM has only ever entered XBox tournament(s?), should be a nice set to start off Rivals 1 singles
- D415 H: LightlyToastedWaffle (60, Sylv) vs Gorklax (69, Clairen) - a rusty older player vs. an active up-and-comer, one of the better WR2 options
- D417 H: jayson (63, Ranno) vs Guinness (66, SK?/Kragg?) - close in seed and close in skill, a decent choice for a WR2 stream match
WR3 sets:
- D415 L: Oneoutkast (28, Kragg) vs mow_kitty (37, Eta) - mow_kitty is potentially one of the most underseeded players, HUGE upset potential in this set
- D417 L: Ateozc (31, Oly/Absa) vs Qunne (34, Hodan) - this matchup is a toss-up, should be a fun set
- D411 K: MSB (15, Kragg/Oly) vs Lucio (50, Zet/Ori?) - Lucio is solidly the best player in Mexico, with either his Ori or Zetter, and this is only his second offline tournament in the States after Hurricane
- D413 K: Bagel (14, Eta) vs TAILSEP (51, Wrastor) - TAILSEP has a history of taking games (and sometimes sets) against the best of the best, including kusi, ZeeBee, Sparx21, and more
Wave E
Rare players: doctorbattle, GPik, MazeBeans (UK), NatySolo (PLEASE show on stream), oshari (LessTime), Robbie0-3, Seggo, T. Richard, Veil (Bookworm), Zatch
WR1 set:
- E413 F: TruePenguini (91, Maypul) vs MazeBeans (166, ???) - MazeBeans is one of the two EU players I know of at GX, and is also a decent Ult player (PRed top 30 in Europe)
WR2 sets:
- E417 H: NatySolo (61, Orcane) vs doctorbattle (68, Ori?) - NatySolo is a new competitor who already has really scary results; won their first ever tournament in upstate NY beating Bagel is Friend and Shotglass, then got 7th at the Guildhouse pre-GX local beating Seelder and going game 5 vs both Lucius and Rakai; also, doctorbattle hasn't entered anything in 4 years (Genesis 7)
- E409 G: miming (64, Pomme?) vs GPik (65, Absa) - we haven't seen GPik in bracket much lately; miming has been improving a lot at Washington locals and hasn't gotten much time on stream at majors
- E411 J: T. Richard (40, Maypul) vs Robbie0-3 (89, Clairen) - Robbie0-3 is a NorCal player who has never been to anything bigger than a local; at the Guildhouse pre-local, they went game 5 vs both mow_kitty and Miss Manners, so maybe there's upset potential here
- E411 H: skrupp (57, Zetter?) vs Dauzen (72, Random???) - two players who have both improved a lot over the past few months
WR3 sets:
- E415 L: Spyker (23, Fors) vs ThrownOrc (42, Wrastor) - Spyker looked really strong at HW6, but Torc has been known to make upsets and it's a pretty hard matchup for Forsburn; should be a good set
- E409 K: Zatch (32, Eta) vs Skooli (33, Fors) - this is Zatch's second tournament in 15 months (got 2nd at Port Priority 8 back in November), so I think Skooli has a good shot at winning
- E415 K: Seggo (10, Oly?) vs ColbyJackC (55, Mollo) - Seggo is always fun to watch, and we also don't get to see actually good Mollos on stream often
- E413 L: Onesy (27, Kragg) vs Seelder (38, Ori) - Ori vs Kragg means big upset potential
- E417 K: Penguin (4, Absa) vs NatySolo (61, Orcane) - this is my number one pick if NatySolo's previous set is not streamed; see E417 H description for why I REALLY want NatySolo to be on stream
- E413 K: darai (6, Ranno) vs oshari (59, Etalus) - oshari (AKA LessTime) has very few offline results, but notably beat frootloops at GOML 2023
Wave F
Rare players: Black Ace, geck0, Haze, Moosseff, Pugx<3, safe (safeAR)
WR1 set:
- F415 D: KrakenUp (109, Orcane?/Kragg?) vs A1tered (148, ???) - if you need a WR1 match, this could be a decent option
WR2 sets:
- F415 H: BlackAce (52, Absa/Oly?) vs Pugx<3 (77, ???) - Pugx is an all-around good player at platform fighters, and improved noticeably in the time between HW5 and HW6
- F417 H: Nemmy (49, Oly/Kragg) vs lolnice (80, SK) - MDVA vs NorCal cross-country matchup, with a rare SK appearance
- F415 J: RubySoul (45, Fors) vs Shoe (84, Absa?) - Shoe is primarily a Colorado Ultimate player, but has also entered some Rivals locals (the same one as Cowboy Dan, Mr. Garrison, and nofin)
WR3 sets:
- F413 L: Ahntye (26, Ori) vs geck0 (39, Kragg) - geck0 hasn't been to a large offline tournament since... Genesis 4? and his playstyle is so unique, he deserves a stream match...
- F413 K: Wai (7, Ranno) vs safe (58, Hodan?) - safe has been an active online player but is relatively new to offline Rivals, this is his first major
- F417 L: Bucket (17, Orcane) vs Haze (48, Clairen) - Haze doesn't get many chances to fight out-of-region top players, and this matchup is very volatile
Wave G (Saturday)
Rare players: chocolatJP (Japan), jenova, Longo (Germany), Nuzzlyleaf, Wisp
WR1 set:
- G417 D: Trainer Red (108, Etalus) vs HomebrewedLemonade (149, ???) - Trainer Red is an okay WIL player
WR2 sets:
- G413 H: Scooby (56, Hodan) vs chocolatJP (73, Ranno) - we almost never get Japanese players at NA majors, and this should be a decent set
- G415 J: HealsGood (43, Sylv) vs Longo (86, Orcane?) - Longo is a player from Germany who hasn't even been active in Europe for a long time, and this is his first NA tournament; huge wildcard player
- G415 H: Dingodial (54, Pomme) vs Nuzzlyleaf (75, Pomme) - this is an especially important set because the winner is almost guaranteed to get top 48 due to Sparx DQing
WR3 sets:
- G415 L: Lucius (22, Ranno) vs HealsGood (43, Sylv) - due to the Sparx DQ, winner of this probably gets winners' side top 48 pretty easily
- G413 L: Rakai (24, Wrastor) vs Wisp (41, Clairen) - Rakai had a huge performance at HW6, and we haven't seen Wisp in a long time
- G417 L: Danzello (21, Zet) vs jenova (44, Elli) - we don't see jenova often, and there's always the possibility of an upset when Elli is involved
