- PSVR 2 definitely makes a game I normally wouldn't play something that surprises and locks me in over a short period of time. A futuristic first person sword and magic using adventure game. I honestly never would have thought. My name is PSVR 2 Villain and today we review Altair Breaker. Before we begin the review I'd like to thank Third Verse for sending me a copy of the game after I won it in a giveaway on Twitter. The chances of that? Seriously. But honestly, thank you guys so much and I'll do my best to give it a fair review. So, Altair Breaker. I could be saying that wrong. Could be Altair Breaker. But let's just go with Altair Breaker for now. It's a launch title for the PSVR 2 and this review is a long time coming. It's an online role-playing first-person adventure game. Grab a weapon or two and head out on to adventures either by yourself or with friends or strangers. Slice your way through enemies that generate out onto a given battlefield. Climb, glide, dash your way around as you use special techniques to fight. The enemy vibe is quite fun the more you get into it. I will say the initial tutorials are good, but it's tough to figure your way around. I will say that you will eventually get the idea of how you want to go about defeating an enemy. It's not that simple as just keep striking. Here's the problem, and I have run across this a few times. Say you have a long enough sword and you are striking an enemy up close. Should you get too close? You will get hit by the sword and you will lose your sword. You will lose your sword. You will lose your sword. You will lose your sword. You will lose your sword. You will lose your sword. You will lose your sword. You will lose your sword. You will lose your sword. You will lose your sword. You will lose your sword. You will lose your sword. You will lose your sword. You will lose your sword. You will lose your sword. You will lose your sword. You will lose your sword. You will lose your sword. You will lose your sword. You will lose your sword. You will lose your sword. You will lose your sword. You will lose your sword. You will lose your sword. You will lose your sword. You will lose your sword. close you will not be able to bring your sword back or forward. It may get stuck maybe in between the arms of an enemy or something like that or you're too close to them you're not going to be able to actually bring it back and swing it down. You will not be able to do much of anything. So you will not be able to actually damage the enemies and they may in turn be as close to you as possible and be able to strike you constantly. So there's a lot of damage they can do and will do. depending on the type of enemy they have. And there's a few different types here in the game. So that aspect of it is rather repetitive, the enemy types. But overall, it's still fun. And you go through the course as you eventually get to the boss of I don't know how best to describe this, but you go through runs where you have multiple levels. You go back to a base in between your levels and you decide, am I going to upgrade? Am I going to use items? Am I going to do anything else? It's where your party will meet you. So, you could do this solo or you could do this with other people. Either way. But, you know, it's been fun and the bosses definitely pose a challenge. Some of them are huge in this game and there's a lot going on on the screen at times with them. But all around it's pretty good. It's definitely a fun time but there are some moments that may irk players that will probably come down to the slight learning curve of how to play and what to do as I've mentioned. I personally, you know, I've taken my time with it and I got used to it and it worked out pretty well for me. As far as the interface, I quite enjoyed that. It's very interesting. You basically use an in-game tablet. We all know how to use tablets and this one's pretty simple. It's funny, I like that so many PSVR games... PSVR2 games, sorry, are using this right now. You get a tablet in the game, you can hold on to it, move it around, and you basically extend your finger out. Basically you're taking it off of the pressure sensitive component of the PSVR2 sense controller. And your character's finger will extend also. And you can start pressing your tablet like that. It's pretty cool. I don't think I've had any moments where I've been swiping things on the screen. It's mostly just button presses but uh yeah maybe they're getting a little more advanced with that. I don't think it'd be too difficult but yeah that's not there. The enemies give me, I don't know, a reboot kind of vibe to them if anybody knows that old show. It's hard to describe. I like the variety of weapons though I usually stick with short blades at least in the beginning I did. I enjoy being fast and punishing opponents that come at me, but it's definitely important to try new weapons and see what works well for you. You can also level up your weapons and have a better time with tougher matches, and there will be tougher matches. Personally I do like a challenge and this game does offer that as you go further on. The only time I found players online in the beginning, there were just a few moments, a few times rather, where I would see some players. But yeah, you constantly have to redo the matchmaking, you'd be able to find other players. Sometimes you don't, sometimes you just deal with the levels on your own. And honestly, you can do so, it's really not that bad. But it would definitely help out, and it would definitely help out if it works properly. There are some times where there's a bit of a problem with the connection between you and another. And I've seen it to where a character or a player is... frozen in place and their body's contorted in weird ways. I could still hear them talking and they're still with me from level to level to level, but I literally... I don't see them doing anything at all. So unfortunately, there are some hiccups like that. But it's not really much of a problem because I still play the game, I still make it through the levels, and I still get the rewards for what we do. So... overall, it's good. You Don't forget, continue progressing through level after level. More story will reveal itself to you. Little by little you'll get new weapons and more fun will be had. Lastly, don't forget, definitely try the tutorial mode. It will help teach you a lot about this game. And trust me when I say, there is a lot and you need to figure some of this stuff out prior to jumping in some of these matches. If you don't know how to glide. you have a glider in this. And trust me, it's not an easy thing to just pick up and learn. You're going to have to know exactly what you're doing with that. You've got to raise your arms up and then you're going to be gliding forward. It's like a slight jump and then a glide forward. If you don't know that, you're going to be stuck in certain levels, not knowing how to get across. And yeah, that's going to be an unfortunate thing for you. So overall, what do I think about this? If you're looking for a PS Virtu title. that lets you hack and slash in fun anime style, then definitely pick this up. There's a lot to learn and the online component is important, though I don't see many on when I do play. They are there, though, and I have met them. But none of that hurt the fun that this game brings. Overall, I give this a 3.5 out of five. Should you be interested in this one? Head over to the description for the video. There I have a link to the PlayStation Store where you can purchase this game. It is $29.99. I think that's fair for this kind of game. It definitely beats some of the new stuff that's coming out that's what $50-$60. So you will get some fun out of this, I can guarantee that. But definitely give it a try. And there's also a trailer there for you guys to check out what this looks like and how it kind of plays. So thank you very much for watching my video on this.
