  1. - The most consistent strategies are to Trick, cripple or PP stall the lead and then set up. Crippling includes lowering accuracy (e.g., Mud-Slap), stealing a held item (Thief), blocking certain attacks (Torment), and lowering other stats (Charm). Running Roar or Whirlwind is helpful when you don't like the lead. The best setup mons are Calm Mind Latios and Latias, but Dragon Dance users are considerable as well. Since these strategies are slow and tedious, they will not be addressed further in this paste.

  3. - Substitute is the best move for the Tower. The AI does not change when you have a substitute up, so it will continue to spam status moves (particularly Thunder Wave, which is about 95% likely to be chosen when you are faster) while you set up. Even if you lack a setup move, you can keep a substitute up for the next Pokemon, which is the best possible countermeasure against Quick Claw, Brightpowder, Focus Band, and freeze hax. Substitute can also be used to scout opposing movesets, to PP stall (especially with Leftovers and Protect), and to intentionally lower one's HP to activate Liechi/Petaya Berry or Blaze/Torrent/Overgrow/Swarm. Substitute can also stall for misses against Pokemon that use inaccurate moves, especially OHKO moves.

  5. - Protect is the best move for a Leftovers user, which most teams have. The more defensive your Pokemon, the more turns you get to restore your HP for free. When a Leftovers + Protect user switches in, it effectively gains 12.5% of its max HP, which is often enough to heal the damage it took. Protect can usually PP stall the most dangerous moves for tanks (namely Cross Chop). Protect also guards against Slaking, Solarbeam/Fly/Dig users, and rain- or sun-boosted moves. Protect is also the best move for scouting opposing movesets. You should almost always run Protect on a defensive Pokemon with Leftovers, even if that means forgoing another valuable move.
  6.
  7. - Tons of Pokemon know Earthquake and Rock Slide/Ancientpower, and these Pokemon can often beat you with hax, so it's helpful to have a Flying or Levitate mon along with a Rock resist so that you can switch play until the opponent is drained of PP.
