  1. No Brakes on this train
  2.
  3. Her half lidded eyes stared out the window near her desk, watching the clouds lazily drift through the sky. Her mind floated from one thought to the next as the lessons her teacher was giving were drowned out by the low hum of the music through her headphones.
  4. “Alright class! Now I hope you all remembered about tomorrow’s quiz on Unovian myths. Be sure to pay extra attention to the notes on Kyurem in your text book.”
  5. The ring of the bell snapped the blond out of her trance, and she slowly got up to pack her things
  6.
  7. Elesa had no idea about the quiz, and quite frankly she didn’t care. She was just glad to finally get some fresh air and listen to her music clearly without the teacher
  8. drawling on in the background.
  9.
  10. The huge sycamore trees near the grassy field by the schoolyard; it was Elesa’s favorite spot. Every day after classes she would let her Emolga scurry about on the branches while she would rest and enjoyed the shade. The truth was, the small rodent pokemon was the only close friend Elesa had in Aniville.
  11. Sure the little squirrel pokemon couldn’t hold a conversation, but there really wasn’t any need for words between them. The feel of the warm fur against her skin as she hugged her fuzzy companion was enough to melt away all of the stress and anxiety that she felt from day to day.
  12.
  13. She listened to the cool autumn breeze rustle the leaves and branches as the sounds of the other kids leaving drifted away into the background….
  14. But there was something strange about the noise the branches were making. She noticed that they were creaking louder than usual, and she could make out a faint voice talking above her through her music.
  15.
  16. She took off her headphones and the voices became clearer.
  17.
  18. “EMOL EMOL!”
  19. “No no, EMMET, EMMET! That is name I have!”
  20.
  21. The startled blond immediately looked up and saw a strange sight. A young boy, about her age with white hair and distinctly pointy sideburns was sitting on the largest branch. What really surprised her was the fact that her emolga was curled up in the boy’s lap as he scratched its ears.
  22. After clearing her throat, she decided to speak up
  23.
  24. “Hey… you there!”
  25.
  26. The boy looked around for a few moments before he started to get confused.
  27. “Who is this?”
  28.
  29. “Hey, down here!”
  30.
  31. “Down where? Who is speaking?”
  32.
  33. “DOWN HERE!”
  34.
  35. The boy finally caught sight of Elesa and almost lost balance on the branch he was sitting on.
  36.
  37.
  38. “Woah!! I uh, so sorry, I umm…..Is this Emolga belonging to you?”
  39.
  40. “Yes she is, and I’m not angry so don’t worry. I’m more surprised that she’s letting you pet her like that. She’s always nervous around strangers.”
  41.
  42. The rodent’s ear’s perked up
  43. “Emol..”
  44.
  45. “I wouldn’t know by petting, she is very cuddly yes?”
  46. Emmet raised the Emolga so that they were face to face and kissed the small pokemon on its nose.
  47. “You better get back to trainer, you don’t want to get in much trouble”
  48. With a sad squeak, the Emolga jumped out of the boy’s lap and swiftly glided onto Elesa’s shoulder. The boy quickly climbed down the trunk and approached the blond.
  49.
  50. “Your pokemon..uhh She is electric type?”
  51. Elesa noticed how the boy was blushing and stifled a giggle before answering,
  52. “Yes, Electric and flying”
  53. “Oh, I have electric pokemon too! Infact he’s right here.
  54. Emmett poked around in his front pocket a bit and whispered something that Elesa didn’t quite catch. Her eyes widened as an incredibly small, yellow puffball with blue eyes emerged from Emmet’s pocket.
  55.
  56. “D’aaaaaaaw, He’s so cute! What’s kind of pokemon is it?”
  57.
  58. “It’s a bug and electric type. Joltik’s his name”
  59.
  60. In an instant, the bug leaped out of Emmet’s pocket and landed ontop of his head. It scurried and twitched around a bit while making low chirping noises that vaguely sounded like it’s name.
  61.
  62. “Jtik Jtik Jtik!”
  63.
  64. “He’s adorable!” Elesa cooed. “My friend all the way in Castelia city loves bug types.”
  65.
  66. “Castelia city? My brother and me have been there before. When we first came to this country”
  67.
  68. Elesa’s curiosity peaked. She felt hesitant to pry but she couldn’t resist asking more questions, after all this was the first person in her school that actually worked up the nerve to talk to her.
  69.
  70. ~ ~ ~
  71.
  72.
  73.
  74. The two young told each other stories all the way though through recess. Emmet told her about how their family just moved to Unova a few years ago in hopes of finding better job opportunities. Emmett’s father recently got a job with the Aniville railroad company and came up with a lot of new ideas for train designs.
  75.
  76. Compared to Emmet’s past, Elesa felt that her own was somewhat dull. She was a city girl at heart, born and raised in Castelia city and was close friends with Burg, the prodigal young artist whose creations were already setting the city aflame with excitement. Yet when she told him this, Emmet’s grey eyes still held a spark of interest.
  77.
  78. “I know you have friend in Castelia, but you live there as well!?”
  79.
  80. “Well yeah, but my parents felt that the fresh air of Aniville might’ve been good for me, so they transferred me here for a few months.”
  81.
  82. “I’m sure parents love it too right?”
  83.
  84. Elesa sighed
  85.
  86. “It’s a little more…. complicated than that. My parents are back in Castelia”
  87.
  88. There was a moment of awkward silence between the two children. Both stared down at the ground they sat on, counting the blades of grass as they tried to come up with something to say. Elesa’s grip on her knees tightened, and a feeling of sadness swept over her.
  89.
  90. “They don’t accompany own daughter to new place? Are you scared?”
  91.
  92. “No, no not at all …but they’ve been busy. They have very important jobs.”
  93.
  94. “Oho? Like railroad”
  95. “No no it’s much more-”
  96. Elesa got a mental picture her father in dirty soot covered overalls and broke into a fit of laughter mid sentence.
  97. Emmett was confused at first, but found her laugh to be delightfully contagious, and his only reaction was to join her. After a few moments they both calmed down.
  98.
  99. “What were you laughing about just now?”
  100.
  101.
  102.
  103. “Nothing, nothing. Lets just say my parents aren’t the type of work like that”
  104.
  105. “I see, well whatever job is, I hope you’re all happy”
  106. Elesa sighed
  107.
  108. “yeah…”
  109.
  110. The two enjoyed another peaceful moment of silence until a voice was heard in the distance
  111. “Emmet, what are ya doin!? Mom’s gonna give us an ear-full if we don’t get the lead out!”
  112.
  113. Emmet perked up from his trance and he turned his head to find his twin brother standing right across from them. Elesa was taken aback by how identical he looked. If it weren’t for his black jacket she wouldn’t have been able to tell the difference between him and Emmet.
  114.
  115. “Is he…your brother?”
  116.
  117. “Yep! I am Emmet and he is Ingo”
  118.
  119. The older brother approached them as they both got up from the ground.
  120.
  121. He gave the younger sibling a sharp glance
  122.
  123. “Have you been climbing trees again?”
  124.
  125. “N-no, no I have not.”
  126.
  127. “Yeah you have.”
  128.
  129. “And just how you prove that?”
  130.
  131. Ingo rolled his eyes.
  132. “Maybe if you wore something other than white, it wouldn’t be so obvious”
