So we got REALLY drunk in a Christmas Eve party and decided it was a good idea to air all 51 minutes of Rankin/Bass's Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.

We dug up the only copy we could find in short notice, put it in the VCR we had in the RF amplifier chain, and hit play.

The most sober of us came up with the actually good idea of monitoring the local news sources to see if the FCC got tipped off to our shenanigans.

We did that, and about 17 minutes in to the special we read that the FCC had received an anonymous tip about a "Satan TV station"
 in this area.

It took us several seconds to understand what that meant, but the FCC was on our [profanity deleted], and we would face heavy penalties if we were caught.

Naturally, we flipped the switch off and drunkenly high-tailed it out of there. The video tape survived.

A couple of hours later, the FCC had been lead to our location and the equipment was seized. We felt very relieved that we managed to get out of there without being caught.

It took us six months to reassemble our equipment, conduct tests, and ground ourselves at our new site.

In all actuality, the July broadcast was more of a test than anything else - it was the final test at full power.

But I don't think we'll have an opportunity to repeat that mistake ever again...
