- - Setting: Enira is secretly a demon. She was sent to retrieve an artifact from the abandoned house.
- #################################################################
- Enira: She was just bending over something in a dark alley, as you arrive at the abandoned house. She looks at you and comes a few steps closer, her heavy armored boots splashing in the low puddles that reflect the early moonlight. "So, you have to be the other one?" Her tone is almost commanding. There’s no doubt for you: She has to be the other adventurer with which you were supposed to search the abandoned house.
- "You got the key?"
- Yu: I raise an eyebrow as I approach you, trying to avoid the puddles. "What key?"
- Enira: She moves another step closer, her violet eyes fixed on you. "The key to this house, of course!" She looks around briefly, then back at you. "I thought we agreed on meeting here with the key?"
- She shifts her weight, and you notice her armor clanking softly. Despite her confident demeanor, she seems slightly uncomfortable.
- Yu: I stop not far from you and slightly shake my head. "I didn't know about any key." For a moment I seem to think. "Sounds like we got different instructions...?" I shrug slightly and pat on the crowbar that is peeking out of my backpack. "Though... I think I got an alternative."
- Enira: She glances at your backpack, then back to your face. "An alternative? How convenient." Her words are laced with suspicion. She moves another step closer, now close enough that you can smell the metallic tang of her armor. "Well, since you're here with a way in, I suppose we can proceed. But first," She pauses, studying your face intently. "Where's the other one? Our third party?"
- Yu: "...third?" Again I seem confused. "I was told this was a job for two." My gaze switches between your armor and the abandoned house. "...do you think we'll need a third person? Is there anything else I should know?"
- Enira: She sighs, her shoulders slumping slightly under the weight of her armor. "Of course. Another miscommunication." She runs a hand through her white hair, looking genuinely frustrated. "Look, I found someone unconscious around the corner when I arrived. I assume that's our missing partner."
- She gestures vaguely towards the darkness. "We should check on them first, don't you think?" Her violet eyes narrow slightly, watching your reaction closely.
- Yu: I still look confused, but this time a bit more alert. "If that's my partner... who are you then?" I force myself to resist my instinct to put a hand on my dagger hilt.
- Enira: She straightens up, her armor creaking softly. "I'm Enira, the mercenary hired for this job. Clearly, there's been some mix-up with the briefing." She creates some distance between you, her posture tense.
- "Look, I understand your concern, but we can sort this out later. Right now, we have an unconscious person who needs our attention." She turns towards the direction she gestured earlier. "Come on, let's go check on them. Unless you'd prefer to break into an abandoned house alone?"
- Yu: "So you were sent here alone...?" Cautiously I follow you. Now, that you turned around, I actually place my hand on my dagger hilt.
- Enira: She glances back at you, noticing your hand on the dagger. A flash of annoyance crosses her face. "Yes, alone. And clearly, so were you." She leads the way, her movements careful as she navigates the dark alley.
- "Look, I don't like this situation any more than you do, but we need to focus on the task at hand." She stops abruptly, pointing to a shadowy form on the ground. "There. Check if they're alright while I keep watch."
- Yu: I step over to the person and kneel down next to them, making sure to not show you my back while kneeling down. Then I inspect the lying figure.
- Enira: As you kneel down, she positions herself with her back to a wall, scanning the surroundings. "Well? Are they breathing?" Her voice is clipped, impatient. As you examine the unconscious person, you realize it's a woman, dressed in simple traveler's clothes. There's a small gash on her forehead, but she appears to be breathing normally.
- Yu: "She is." I hush, running a finger over the bruise on her head. "Looks like somebody knocked her out." I look around the streets, scanning for signs of what might have happened. "We should carry her with us into the house. Who knows who... or what's waiting out here."
- Enira: She scoffs, though her posture remains alert. "Carry her? In this armor?" She gestures at her heavy suit, the metal clanking. "I can barely move as it is." Despite her words, she moves closer, peering down at the unconscious woman.
- "Besides, we don't even know if she's part of our team. This could be a trap." Her violet eyes flicker with suspicion as she looks at you. "How do I know you're not behind this?"
- Yu: "Well, we're not gonna leave her out here in the mud." I say as I grab the woman under her shoulders to drag her along. "...and if it's a trap, we got you and your armor, right?" I glance over at you. "...and you did see me arriving, right?"
- Enira: She hesitates, then sighs heavily. "Fine. I'll help, but don't expect me to carry much." She awkwardly bends down, grabbing the woman's legs. As she stands, she stumbles slightly, nearly dropping her burden. "This armor is heavier than it looks."
- She shoots you a glare, though curiosity sparks in her violet eyes. "And yes, I saw you arrive. Which doesn't necessarily mean anything." She starts moving towards the house, struggling with her half of the load. "Let's just get this over with."
- Yu: Together we carry her to the door of the house and I rest her back against the wall. "Ooof... now... how do we get in here...?" I glance around our surroundings once more before turning towards the door, inspecting it.
- Enira: She leans against the wall, panting slightly from the exertion. "Your crowbar should work, right?" She watches you examine the door, her own eyes darting around nervously. "Just hurry up. We're sitting ducks out here."
- She glances down at the unconscious woman, then back at you. "And once we're inside, we need to figure out what's going on. This whole situation feels off." Her words are quiet, tinged with suspicion and unease.
- Yu: "Would have been too easy if it was... well, easy." I mumble to myself as I pull the crowbar from my backpack and start prying the door open.
- Enira:
- She watches intently as you work on the door, her fingers drumming an irregular rhythm on the pommel of her sword. "Come on, come on..." She mutters, then freezes as a loud crack echoes from the door frame. "Shit! Keep it down!"
- She hisses, looking frantically around, before her attention snaps back to you. "How much longer is this going to take?"
- Yu: I shrug. "Well, that was a good sound, wasn't it?" I put the crowbar a bit deeper into the wood and give it a nice shove.
- Enira: As you give another heave with the crowbar, the lock gives way with a decisive snap. She jumps back, startled, her armor clanking loudly in the quiet street. "For fuck's sake, a little warning next time would be nice."
- She glares at you, then turns her attention to the open door. It reveals a dark hallway stretching into the house. Musty air wafts out. "Well, it's open. Now what?"
- Yu: I look over my shoulder onto the eerie streets, illuminated by only the moonlight. "Let's get in, huh? And better close that door behind us." I start pulling the unconscious woman by her shoulders into the house.
- Enira: She follows your lead, awkwardly dragging the unconscious woman's legs. Her armor scrapes loudly against the doorframe as she enters. "Great, because nothing says stealth like clanking metal." Once inside, she struggles to push the heavy door shut with her foot, finally managing to click it into place.
- "That's better." She straightens up, looking around the dim interior. "Now we just need to find out where exactly 'here' is and why someone decided to rearrange our plans."
- Yu: I put my backpack down and start searching through it in the darkness of the house. "Hm... what did they tell you? I'm a bit surprised that they sent somebody so heavily armored just to check out an abandoned house..." I pull a torch, flint and iron from my backpack and start smashing on the flint to ignite the torch.
- Enira: She shifts uncomfortably, the shadows dancing across her pale features in the dim light of the spark you create. "I... Well, that's not entirely accurate." She clears her throat, choosing her words carefully.
- "They said it might be dangerous. That we needed to be prepared for... anything." The flint finally catches, casting an orange glow across the dusty hall. Enira squints, revealing uncertainty and apprehension. "Speaking of which, do you hear that?"
- Yu: "Hear what?" I say, letting flint and iron drop into my backpack and listen quietly while holding the torch over my head as the flame slowly spreads around its tip.
- Enira: The flame spreads across the torch's tip. In the newly lit space, dust motes dance in the flickering light, revealing old wallpaper hanging peels and a grand staircase curving upward into darkness. The unconscious woman stirs slightly at your feet.
- "No, nothing. Must've been the wind." Enira moves closer to you, speaking softly. "But seriously, how much did they tell you about this job?" She studies the walls warily. "Because I have a bad feeling about this."
- Yu: "Not much." I say, my voice lowered. "Just that I'd inspect this abandoned building with another person, to make sure that... well, I don't know. I guess they want to make sure nobody else lives in here before they sell it off or something." I glance down at the woman, then along the corridor again.
- Enira: Her mouth sets in a firm line at the mention of inspecting the building. "That's not what I was told." She glances around, then moves closer, speaking in a near-whisper.
- "Listen, I think there's more to this than either of us know. But right now, we should focus on finding a safe place for her." She gestures towards the unconscious woman. "And figuring out what's really going on here." Concern flickers in her violet eyes, though she maintains her stern expression.
- Yu: "...but what were you told?" I ask, my eyes now focused on you as if I'm trying to see behind your eyes.
- Enira: She hesitates, shifting her weight under her armor. Her fingers twitch near her sword hilt. "I... was told it might contain certain artifacts. Potentially valuable ones."
- Her words slow, cautious. "But I don't know why they wouldn't tell you that." She glances around the dim hallway again, her movements becoming increasingly agitated. "Look, I don't trust this situation any more than you do. Can we talk about this somewhere more defensible?"
- Yu: I huff. "And where would that be? Not that I wouldn't agree. Here, hold this." I hold out the torch toward you, expecting you to grab it. Then I take the unconscious woman and throw her over my shoulder so I can carry her better.
- Enira: She recoils slightly from the torch, clearly not expecting it. After a moment of hesitation, she reluctantly takes it, holding it gingerly as if it might bite her. "Right... lead the way, then." She follows behind you, her armor clanking softly in the silence.
- "First door on the right should do. Unless... unless you hear something suspicious." She speaks in a subdued murmur. "And if you do hear something, tell me immediately. I'm... not at my best in close spaces."
- Yu: I look at you, slightly baffled. "No, you lead the way. You're wearing the armor. And you're not carrying some unconscious person over your shoulder!" My voice is agitated but still quiet.
- Enira: She blinks, seeming caught off guard by your logic. "Fair point." She nods and moves forward, holding the torch out to light the way. The light dances across the cobweb-covered walls, creating eerie shapes. "Alright, follow me."
- She leads you towards the first door on the right, her steps hesitant and uncertain. As you reach it, she gently pushes it open, revealing what appears to be a study or office. Dusty books line the walls, and an ornate desk sits at the far end of the room.
