  1. >As you arrive home at the boutique, you're shocked by the scene.
  2. >Your marefriend of two and a quarter years sat, gun held against her head, staring at herself in one of the many mirrors around the building.
  3. >You knew why she was doing this as well.
  4. >Sweetie Belle's sudden passing one month prior.
  5. >Rarity had become reclusive to the point where you had to feed her, bathe her, and watch her carefully.
  6. >This is the closest she's been to Death's door.
  7. >Before, she had just looked longingly at a pair of sharp scissors.
  8. >Scissors which were now hidden.
  9. >She managed to go out when the pony who had caused the accident was tried.
  10. >Her friends had been there for her.
  11. >For them, she had feigned normality.
  12. >You were the only one who saw her like this.
  13. >How were you supposed to react?
  14. >This mare had taken you in, given a roof over your head, and a job.
  15. >During your time together you had fallen in love and she reciprocated those feelings.
  16. >Things had been happy for those two years.
  17. >You would sometimes worry the relationship would become boring or you would grow apart.
  18. >This life was simply too good to be true.
  19. >That part of you was something you could never shake.
  20. >The more time you spent with her, the less the insecurity gripped you.
  21. >Yet, the thing that would tear you two apart wasn't in your control.
  22. >It wasn't some flaw in your relationship or in your character.
  23. >It was an extremely painful circumstance.
  24. >Rarity was not alone when she felt the loss of Sweetie Belle.
  25. >But she needed you, so you stayed strong for her.
  26. >You ran the boutique, put hard learned skills to use, and still kept watch over her.
  27. >This, however...
  28. >This was beyond your expertise.
  29. >You stared silently at her.
  30. >Had she noticed you?
  31. >Should you try and take the gun by force?
  32. >Was she gonna pull the trigger before you could do anything?
  33. >You have to act.
  34. >Say something Anon!
  35. >Don't lose her too!
  36.
  37. “Darling?” you say softly.
  38. >She jumps violently, turning quickly in her chair.
  39. >You stare at each other.
  40. >The small, cold, lonely tears in her eyes become shared.
  41. >There is a long silence between you two as you let her calm down.
  42. >You take a small step forward and she winces as if it was painful.
  43. >“S-stop it Anon,” she says in a hoarse voice. “Not another step.”
  44. >Her voice croaked as if she had been wailing for hours before.
  45. “Honey, please, I-I,” you stutter, unsure of what might trigger her to do something awful. “I just want to talk. Please, can't we just talk?”
  46. >“Why? What's the point anymore?”
  47. >You pause. Where should you even go from here? How could you get that gun out of her hand?
  48. “I know it hurts. I wish with all my heart I could make you not hurt. But, please, /please/! You don't have to do this,” you beg her, making sure to keep your tone soft. “Don't leave me alone.”
  49. >She sighs and a smile cracks on her face. The sight is lonely. She hasn't smiled even once since Sweetie died.
  50. >“I'm going to go see Sweetie Belle now.”
  51. >The implications hit you immediately.
  52. >Adrenaline starts pumping through your blood.
  53. >You lunge towards her, grabbing the barrel of the gun.
  54. >You point it downwards and begin prying it from her magical levitation field.
  55. >He begins tugging back, trying to get the gun back into her grasp.
  56. >There is a deafening bang and you feel the gun kick in your hands.
  57. >A burning sensation shoots through your hand but you don't let go.
  58. >“No,” she cries. “No! Let me go! Let me see her again!”
  59. >You rip the gun out of her magic's grasp with your uninjured hand.
  60. >She tackles you to the ground, howling and pleading.
  61. >“Give it back Anon! Please!” she collapses on you as you hold it out of her reach.
  62. >You wrap your free arm around her and hold her against your body.
  63.
  64. >“I've already gone too far Anon. Now that you've caught me, you'll never forgive me.”
  65. “Rarity, what are you talking about?” you ask softly, a panicked tone hitching in your voice. “I just don't want you to hurt yourself.”
  66. >“You'll never forgive me for trying to escape this misery,” she sobs, burying her face into your chest.
  67. “I just don't want you to hurt yourself,” you retort in surprise. “You're not thinking straight! We'll get you help, whatever you need. I'm here for you Rarity. I'll always be here for you.”
  68. >Rarity's resistance and inhibition melts away.
  69. >She let's you hold her and embraces you in turn.
  70. >With one hand firmly grasping her back and the other on the back of her head, you pull her tightly into your body.
  71. >The strong front you had held cracks.
  72. >Holding her tightly, you began to cry too.
  73. >Embracing each other and sobbing was strangely intimate.
  74. >You felt inclined to kiss her.
  75. >Giving into the impulse, you press your lips into her soft, furry forehead.
  76. >The kiss is held for an eternity as you relieve your eyes.
  77. >The sobbing softens and silences itself.
  78. >You pull back from your kiss.
  79. “Why? Why did you try to leave me alone?” you whisper. “I love you so much, damn it. You're not allowed to die before me.”
  80. >“...”
  81. “You know, if I had found you, like you had found Sweetie Belle...”
  82. >You squeeze her in your arms as hard as you can, pressing her as firmly as possible into your chest.
  83. “I would have left life behind too.”
  84. >Her body shakes at this. You can feel more moisture soak into your shirt.
  85. >However, she is silent.
  86. “We will always have each other,” you coo. “Please, if nothing else, believe that. Let it be the impassible wall that keeps you in this world with me.”
  87. >“I didn't want to leave you Anon, I just-” she hesitates now holding you in a grip you've never felt before. “I miss her so much. Why did she have to leave? Everything was so...” her voice grows so faint, you almost hear her mouth it, “perfect.”
