  1. "It gets worse," Haru informed me, as we walked through the school doors. Thankfully, the building had air conditioning. I closed my eyes - the cold air felt wonderful on my sweaty skin. "How so?" I asked.
  2. "We have PE today," she told me. My heart sank faster than the Titanic. "Outside?" I asked, dreading the response. I opened my eyes and looked at her in time to see her nodding silently.
  3. I buried my face in my hands, pretending to cry. I was one of the top students in drama, and very good at doing convincing fake crying. Haru knew me enough to know I wasn't being serious, though.
  4. "Come on, it's not that bad," she said, putting a hand on my shoulder. I looked up, smirking. "I know, I just wanted to get you to touch me," I replied. She sniggered and pushed me away gently. "Don't get any ideas." I sidled up to her, putting my arm around her lower back and putting my head on her shoulder. "Aww, come on, how long are you gonna be in denial?" I teased. She pushed me away again, harder this time, so I actually fell on my butt.
  5. "S-stop it!" Haru cried, but she was giggling as well. "Come on, let's go or we'll be late for homeroom."
  6. I held out my hand to her, smiling in a "you know what to do" kind of way. Haru rolled her eyes, but smiled and took my hand, pulling me to my feet.
  7. "You're such a kid sometimes, Yuri," she chided me, as we walked hand-in-hand through the school corridors.
  8. I just smiled. "Do you think they'd let me skip PE if I came up with a convenient excuse?"
  9. "Like what?"
  10. I thought. "What if I pretended to twist my ankle early on?" I had gotten away with that before - like I said, I was a good actor.
  11. "I dunno... You've used that one a lot already. People might get suspicious."
  12. I nodded. "I just wish I could go topless," I moaned. "Stupid school rules..."
  13. "It certainly would give us an advantage," Haru replied, smirking. "All the guys would be too busy staring at your chest to concentrate on the game."
  14. I smirked. "Just the boys?" I asked teasingly. "I've seen you staring at my chest many times."
  15. Haru blushed. "I-I'm just jealous, is all," she replied. "Yours are so big, and mine are... well..." She looked down at herself. She sported a couple of fairly modest B-cups, so it was only natural she would be jealous of mine - not that I was trying to sound like I was bragging or anything. I put my arm around her, partially to comfort her, partly because I just wanted an excuse to do it. "Come on, less is more, right? It's not what you've got that counts, it's what you do with it. Besides, some guys go for the flat ones."
  16. "Yeah, like two percent of them."
  17. "Come on, cheer up," I cajoled her. "What if I let you touch them later?"
  18. Haru sniggered. "How is that supposed to make me feel better?" she asked incredulously.
  19. "Why would it not?" I responded, in my best "innocently curious" voice. Haru burst out laughing.
  20. "Oh, I love you, Yuri," she said, tears running down her cheeks. "Don't ever change."
  21. I smiled as we approached the classroom door. "I love you too," I replied. "Now come on, pull yourself together. What will they they think if we go in there with you crying?"
  22. Haru giggled. "I'm not crying," she countered, rubbing her eyes with her hand and shaking her head a little, trying to calm herself down, I guess. Haru really had a tendency to get emotional at times - if I'd gotten a hundred yen for every time I saw her with tears in her eyes, I wouldn't even need to go to school anymore. Still, that was just one of the many things that I found adorable about her, and I considered my ability to make her cry - for good reasons, mind you - a sign of our friendship. Once she got herself under control, we headed into the classroom.
  23. [...]
  24. "Yuri-chan... come back to me..."
  25. I opened my eyes, slowly coming back to reality. It took me a while to remember where I was - my head was still against Haru's chest, her heartbeat still in my ears.
  26. "Are you okay, sleepyhead?" Haru's voice was amused and concerned at the same time. "You were pretty far gone. I've been trying to wake you up for ten minutes already."
  27. "Was too relaxed," I murmured, still half-asleep. I reluctantly pushed myself into a sitting position and rubbed my eyes, trying to wake up. I was disappointed that the kiss had never happened, but I decided to keep the memory of that ever-so-vivid dream safe in my mind forever. As far as I was concerned, that was my first kiss with Haru. It might not have been real, but it was still the best I could hope for.
  28. Haru giggled, pulling me to my feet. I swayed a bit and yawned, still not fully awake. "Come on, Yuri-chan, snap out of it," she cajoled me teasingly. "You shouldn't be this sleepy so early in the afternoon."
  29. I shook my head a bit. "Not my fault," I replied. "You shouldn't be so nice to sleep on."
  30. Haru laughed. "I can't be that nice," she replied. "My chest isn't that soft."
  31. "It is so," I replied defiantly, feeling a bit more awake. "And plus, you're so warm, and your heartbeat is so relaxing. I couldn't help falling asleep."
  32. "You seemed like you were having a nice dream, too," she replied. "You were giggling in your sleep the whole time."
  33. "I was," I replied. "Why'd you have to wake me up?"
  34. Haru blushed. "Because you... umm... started trying to kiss me..."
  35. I blinked. "...Did I?"
  36. Haru shook her head. Darn. "I managed to stop you, somehow," she replied. "But it took me a while to get you to snap out of it."
  37. I didn't know whether to feel happy or disappointed, really, though I reasoned that if I was gonna kiss Haru - and I mean properly kiss her, not the way I usually did - I would want us both to be awake and fully in control of ourselves when it happened. I wasn't counting that time that Mind Breaker forced her to kiss me - as far as I was concerned, that never happened.
  38. [...]
  39. "How do you feel?" Haru's voice interrupted my thoughts.
  40. "Like I've been asleep for days," I replied, giggling. "The time I spent without you just feels like a bad dream that I've finally woken up from."
  41. Haru smiled. "Aww, that's sweet."
  42. I giggled at her. "Well, I am sweet, that's why I love sweet things," I replied, teasingly.
  43. Haru laughed. "Okay, come on." She took my hand. "I'm taking you for ice cream."
  44. I smiled, walking alongside her. "How come?" I asked, even though I knew she knew what I wanted to hear in answer.
  45. She smirked at me. "Because I love you," she replied. "And because you're way too cute to be allowed."
  46. I smirked back at her. "I love you too," I replied, as we walked to the bus stop together.
  47.
  48. Later on, we were sitting in a café eating sea-salt ice cream together. I sat there, watching Haru lick hers and daydreaming. She looked up and saw me staring at her.
  49. "What's up, Yuri-chan? Are you feeling sick?"
  50. "I want to be your ice cream," I mumbled dreamily.
  51. Haru blinked. "What?"
  52. "I said I want your ice cream," I repeated, thanking the heavens for my acting skills.
  53. "You've got your own!" Haru replied, laughing. I smirked.
  54. "I know, but I want yours too," I replied.
  55. Haru giggled. "You're such a kid, Yuri-chan."
  56. I just smiled at her, taking a bite out of my ice cream. "You love it, admit it."
  57. Haru reached over and ruffled my hair. "Of course I love it," she replied. "Even if you are controlling me."
  58. I took another bite. "How am I controlling you?" I asked, smirking.
  59. "Because you're so cute, I can't resist you," Haru replied, poking my arm gently. "I'd probably do anything you asked me to, just because you're so adorable."
  60. I laughed. "Maybe it's just the mind-control device I put on the back of your head," I remarked teasingly.
  61. "You did not!" Haru replied defiantly, but her hand went up to the back of her head anyway.
  62. "Made you check," I teased. Haru gave me a gentle shove.
  63. "Bad Yuri," she reprimanded me, giggling. She returned to licking her ice cream.
  64. "I wish you'd lick me like that," I remarked unashamedly, smirking.
  65. Haru's eyes went wide, then she burst into laughter. It took her quite some time to get herself under control again.
  66. "Oh, Yuri-chan, I seriously love you," she said, once she'd calmed down enough to speak. She dried her eyes with her hand and smiled at me.
  67. I took her hand in both of mine, staring deep into her eyes. "Why deny our feelings any longer, Haru-chan? Let's run away together, just you and me. We'll start a new life, for ever happy!"
  68. Those last three words were said in English, and comprised the majority of my English knowledge. Haru just laughed and pushed me away gently. "You're such a bad girl."
  69. "Awww." I put my arms around her and rested my head on her shoulder. "I like to hear that I'm a good girl."
  70. Haru giggled at me. "Don't fall asleep again."
  71. I looked up at her, giggling, then suddenly licked her cheek and ran away. She stood there stunned for a second, then shouted "Hey!" and chased after me.
  72. I made it to the park before Haru leapt on me and tackled me to the ground. We rolled over and over until we finally came to a stop, Haru on top of me, pinning me down.
  73. "Ooh, I like this situation," I told her, smirking.
  74. "You're unbelievable, Yuri-chan," Haru replied, though she was laughing.
  75. "This is just like my dream," I replied, with an innocent smile. Haru rolled off me and I sat up.
  76. "Yeah, well, I'm not kissing you," she replied, smirking. "At least not like how you dreamed it."
